2015 Summer Solstice Southern Hemisphere

Solstice means “standstill”. From our perspective on Earth the Sun is standing still for four days at the Tropic of Capricorn its southern-most declination. Dec 21/22 marks the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere. But everything seems to be topsy-turvy these days. Here where I live (latitude 44 north) winter has not shown itself. Our temperatures are well above normal and the grass, usually snow covered at this time of year, is green. Very strange. But I think a metaphor for things to come in 2016. At the end of December we will write about the major shifts to come in the new year.
For now I am going to focus on the turning of the seasons. Winter Solstice celebrates the retuning of the light. It is the longest night and shortest Day. As Grandfather Sun begins to move north again the day light increases. By our Spring Equinox (March 19/20) he will be at the equator and we will have equal day and equal night. A call for balance.
Winter Solstice is the gateway into the North Direction on the Medicine Wheel (Northern Hemisphere). It is the Time to experience revision and realignment. The North is the power of patience, understanding, renewal, and translating knowledge into wisdom. White Buffalo, prayer, abundance, and spiritual renewal is the guardian of the North.
Grandfather Sun has now entered the Earth Renewal Time (until Jan 20) with Snow Goose, following our dreams and visions, guiding us. It is the time to release self-limitation and allow ourselves to live our spiritual vision. Jan 20 to Feb 19 Grandfather Sun will be in the Rest and Cleansing Time with Otter, joyful sharing and companionship, as our guide. This is also the time to share your gifts of healing with others. Feb 19 to March 19/20 Grandfather Sun will be passing through The Big Winds Time. It is the opportunity for completion and release to make space for new inspiration that is waiting for us to embrace. Cougar, spiritual power, and Wolf, spiritual teacher are our guides.
Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere is the South Direction on your Medicine Wheel, the place of expansion, growth, and learning to listen to your intuitive guidance. It is the power of adaptability and the strength to expand the new ideas that were initiated during the Sun’s journey through the East. The guardian of the South is Coyote, the trickster. He teaches us to be flexible and learn to laugh at ourselves.
You have now entered the Hot Sun and Long Days Time with Flicker Woodpecker, new spiritual rhythms and healing love, as your guide until Jan 20/21. Then Grandfather Sun travels through the Ripening Time until Feb 19 with Salmon, determination to give birth to the new, guiding you. Feb 19 to March 20 is the Harvest Time, with Brown Bear, the healer as your guide.
For all of us astrologically the Sun is travelling through Capricorn (Soul Purpose) Dec 21/22 to Jan 20/21. Then he enters Aquarius (giving our Soul Gifts) until Feb 19. From Feb 19 to March 19/20 Grandfather Sun visits Pisces (healing, completion, and release). I have given two dates is some cases depending on the time zone you are in.
The Solstice chart sets the theme for the next 3 months in either hemisphere. We are looking at the planetary dance for this Solstice. There is a Grand Earth trine that is blessings us. Earth is groundedness and identifying what is of true value in our lives. That is emphasised by the Moon at 17 degrees Taurus. She is trine (ease and flow) Jupiter at 22 degrees Virgo (the Rainbow Bridge of Healing) which is trine Mercury (our thoughts and perceptions) and Pallas Athene (Goddess of Wisdom and justice) who are travelling together at 18 degrees Capricorn. Mercury is out of bounds (beyond the path the Sun travels) and is asking us to “think outside the box” and be guided by our Soul’s Wisdom. The Grand Trine is Pyramid Power. Blessings from Creator and Great Mystery.
There are two Oppositions (things out of balance) that are considered easy oppositions. The Taurus Moon is opposite Venus at 20 degrees Scorpio (identifying what is of true value and importance). Venus is sextile (ease and opportunity) Mercury and Pallas (changing our thoughts and perceptions) and also sextile Jupiter in Virgo (the Rainbow Bridge of Healing). The other opposition is Jupiter opposite Chiron at 17 degrees Pisces (healing the world wound). Chiron is sextile (easy opportunity) the Taurus Moon (Soul Guidance) and sextile Mercury and Pallas in Capricorn (changing societies perceptions). Venus in Scorpio (healing and transformation) is trine (ease and flow) Chiron (healing). So the oppositions are here to help us find balance and harmony.
Of course the Universe always likes to challenge the human kingdom. Uranus at 16 degrees Aries (break down or break through) is opposite Mars at 23 degrees Libra (passive aggressiveness or peaceful warrior). They form a T Square with Mercury and Pallas in Capricorn (limited thinking or transformed perception). A T Square can make us feel backed into a corner if we resist the transformation being asked of us. And Transformation is the key here. Pluto at 14 degrees Capricorn (healing and release of old wounds) is travelling with Mercury (thoughts and perceptions) and Pallas (justice and wisdom). They are the focus of the T Square. It is time to set ourselves and the world free. The Sun at 00 degrees Capricorn is a world point and a symbol for society.
So wherever you are at this Solstice Time this is the theme for the next 3 months. Blessings on your journey to freedom.
Love and harmony,
We will be back for the Cancer Full Moon of Dec 25.
