Here in the North Country the winter nights were cold, crisp, and clear. For the past few nights the sky had been clear of Cloud People so Snowy Owl and Shooting Star had been able to see Sister Moon’s journey as she sailed the Cosmic Sea. Each night she appeared fuller and brighter and this night she was showing her full face as she shone down on the Earth. As the sisters climbed the path to the Star Temple the moonlight cast silver blue shadows on the snow. The night felt magical.
Sister Moon spoke “All Full Moons are a balancing point. This time I am reminding all two leggeds of the unique and special selves they are. When they came into the world they each had gifts to share to make the world a better place. In the far away time that has been forgotten and so has the magic of life. I am asking each person to reconnect with their magical child and see life through those eyes.”
Sister Moon continued “Grandfather Sun is reminding all of you that you are part of the human family. There may be differences in ideas and beliefs but Creator and Great Mystery gave each of you a spark of the Divine Flame which is a symbol for the Oneness of All. Together we are asking each of you to rediscover your compassionate heart center and be Loving Kindness as you walk the human path. That is how the world will find the balance so desperately needed in the far away time.”
Snowy Owl and Shooting Star felt their own hearts open as the message from Sister Moon echoed in their thoughts. Yes Loving Kindness would always be the answer.
When the Moon is full she illuminates the qualities of the zodiac sign she is visiting. The positive attributes of Leo are creativity, warmth, generosity, and optimism. The shadow side of Leo is vanity, self-importance, status seeking, and being overly dramatic. Leo is the sign of the compassionate heart or the ego personality. The ego can be an ally if we have strong self-esteem and it helps us find the courage to do well. But it often is expressed as the “false self” and that is when the shadow side of Leo is most evident. What this Full Moon offers is the courage to be your authentic self with Loving Kindness for all.
The Moon is at 03 degrees Leo and is ruled by the Sun at 03 degrees Aquarius. The Sun is both the traditional and Soul Centered ruler of Leo. The positive attributes of Aquarius are individualism, independence, innovation, and progressive thinking. The shadow side is aloofness, detachment, but also unpredictable and rebellious behaviour. Aquarius is also associated with humanitarisim and the collective consciousness. Two examples of the latter are Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah, both born with the Sun in Aquarius.
Until Uranus was discovered in the winter of 1781 the ruler of Aquarius was Saturn (society, rules, regulations) so I take into consideration Saturn’s influence at this Full Moon. As ruler of Aquarius Saturn limited and restricted the freedom of the individual and the collective. When a new planet is discovered its vibrational energy emerges in the collective consciousness. When Uranus (rebellion and chaos) was discovered it was around the time of the French and American Revolutions and the rise of individualism. It was also the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Uranus is a symbol of breakthrough but also breaking down. At this Full Moon both Saturn and Uranus play important parts in the planetary dance.
Saturn is currently at 13 degrees Sagittarius (limiting beliefs or spiritual consciousness) and is trine (ease and flow) the Asteroid Vesta at 13 degrees Aries (spiritual at-oneness) AND Uranus at 16 degrees Aries (breaking through to the Authentic Self). So Saturn and Uranus are supporting us to give our gifts of healing to the world (Aquarius) by being Loving Kindness. But as I always say the Universe likes to challenge us. Saturn is square (finding new ways of doing things) Chiron at 18 degrees Pisces (healing the world wound). The square aspect is a motivator for change. The world (humanity) definitely needs to change and heal.
I often say the planetary dance is a tapestry of different aspects woven together to create a beautiful story. The Soul Centered ruler of the Aquarius Sun is Jupiter currently at 22 degrees Virgo travelling with the North Node also at 22 degrees Virgo. Together they show us the Rainbow Bridge of Healing into Wholeness. They are opposite (finding balance) Chiron and the South Node in Pisces (healing and releasing the wounds from the past) and they are trine Mercury Rx and Pluto both at 15 degrees Capricorn (transforming society and our perspectives). Mercury and Pluto are sextile (easy opportunities) Chiron in Pisces (healing and completion) and Mars at 10 degrees Scorpio travelling with Juno at 11 degrees Scorpio (healing and transforming relationship). But Mercury and Pluto are also square (finding new ways of doing things and motivation for change) Vesta and Uranus in Aries (breaking free from the old and breaking through to the new). Quite the story!!!
Back to Mercury in Capricorn for a moment. He has been retrograde (review and revision) since January 05 and moves direct on Jan 25/26 (depending on your time zone). Mercury Rx in Capricorn has been supporting us all to change our thoughts and perspectives about what is the right use of will. He will continue to walk side by side with Pluto until Jan 31 (transforming society). Mercury will finally clear his retrograde shadow on Feb 13 when he re-enters Aquarius (focusing on the gifts of healing we are here to share).
Our Animal totem guide for the Moon in Leo is Salmon, courage and enthusiasm to create the new. For the Sun in Aquarius it is Otter, companionship and joyful sharing. The Clan Mother who guides us for the Moon in Leo is She Who Heals. She is the guardian of serving the truth, the keeper of the healing arts, and all rites of passage.
