Shooting Star climbed the path to the Star Temple alone. Her sister Snowy Owl had been summoned to the Council of Twelve to receive information about the planetary dance that was to come in the next few Moon cycles. Usually Shooting Star did not like to be alone but this time was different. As she settled in the center of the Star Temple she looked up and saw the dark night sky filled with thousands of Starry Ones. She knew she was never really alone. She was part of the Universe in all its vastness.
This New Moon ceremony was special for Shooting Star. It was the Rest and Cleansing Moon Time, the Moon cycle she was born into. She thought about all her experiences over the past and how they had brought her to this place of feeling in tune with her true self. She had learned to love and trust herself so she could give her gifts to the world. She was able to understand and share the messages from the Animal Totems and the Starry Ones. As she thought about her journey she heard Sister Moon speak.
“This is the Wishing, Hopes, and Dreams Moon cycle. When Grandfather Sun and I meet we initiate opportunities for inspired new beginnings. This New Moon is guiding you to express your greatest hopes and dreams and live them every day as you walk your Earth Path. It is a time to find inner courage to be your Authentic Self and give your Soul Gifts to the world to make it a better place. This is especially needed in the far away time. There is still much conflict and opposition among humans and they forget they are all connected. The planetary dance for the next seven Moon cycles is one of challenge and change but also opportunity to break free from limitation and restriction. It is the opportunity to see the Oneness and heal the wound of separation. Shooting Star as you looked to the Starry Ones you felt your connection to the Universe and you knew you are never alone.”
Sister Moon fell silent. As she did Shooting Star heard noise coming from the path that led to the Star Temple. All of the Animal Totems entered the Sacred Space one by one. They were there to offer their special gifts for this Moon cycle so everyone’s hopes and dreams can come true.
So what are your hopes and dreams? What is your greatest wish for yourself? How can you give your special gifts to the world to make it a better place? That is what this New Moon cycle is about. Aquarius is the zodiac sign most associated with hopes, wishes, and dreams. It also asks us to focus on giving our spiritual gifts to the world to change the collective consciousness from separation to Oneness.
Aquarius is also the sign of friendship, group associations, and humanitarian causes. All these areas in our lives will be emphasized with this New Moon cycle. In the Northern Hemisphere our Animal Totem guide for this Rest and Cleansing cycle is Otter, companionship, joyful sharing, and creating positive change. For the Southern Hemisphere this is your Ripening Time Moon cycle with Salmon, courage, enthusiasm, and determination, as your guide. Since our story including all the Animal Totems offering their gifts for this Moon cycle we will share their gifts. These are the Totems associated with the astrological signs. (They may not be your Power Animal guide. These often make themselves known when we need their Medicine to guide us. One of my Power Totems is Owl, wisdom. Owl is one of the Totems for Sagittarius but I have no planets in Sagittarius. Still Owl is a strong guide in my journey). Here are the Animal Totems for each astrological sign. Since Aries begins the astrological year we will start there.
Aries: Falcon, clear vision and inspiration, and Red Tailed Hawk, spiritual messages and Spiritual Messenger. Taurus: Beaver, making space to build the new. Gemini: Deer, sensitivity, and compassionate love. Cancer: Flicker Woodpecker, transition and healing love. Leo: Salmon, determination to create the new. Virgo: Brown Bear, introspection, healing, and The Healer. Libra: Crow, justice and fairness, and Raven, magic and The Mysteries. Scorpio: Snake, healing and shedding the old that no longer serves us. Sagittarius: Elk, stamina and strength, and Owl, wisdom and guardian of the Truth. Capricorn: Snow Goose, following your dreams and Soul Purpose. Aquarius: Otter, curiosity and joyful sharing. Pisces: Cougar, spiritual power, and Wolf, the teacher who guides us through change. All these Totems are contained within the Astrological Wheel of this New Moon. You can call on any or all as you make your wish to fulfill your dreams.
The Clan Mother who guides us at this Aquarius New Moon is Wisdom Keeper. She is the protectress of Sacred Traditions and the Keeper of the Stone Libraries and Earth History. She is the Mother of friendship, planetary unity, and Mutual Understanding (which we desperately need in the human kingdom right now and for always). She teaches us to Honor the Truth. Because this New Moon is occurring in the month of January we also have the guidance of Clan Mother Talks With Relations. She is the Mother of the planetary family and teaches us to honor kinship with all life forms and how to enter the Sacred Space of others with respect (something the human kingdom still needs to learn). She teaches us how to Learn the Truth. Their beautiful stories and sharing’s can be found in The 13 Original Clan Mothers and Earth Medicine both by Jamie Sams.
The ancient planetary guide for this New Moon is Saturn at 24 degrees Sagittarius (building a strong spiritual foundation in our lives). The modern ruler (sighted in 1781) of Aquarius is Uranus currently at 20 degrees Aries (breaking through to the Authentic Self). As we have mentioned in other posts they are in a trine aspect (ease, flow, and removal of obstacles). They are gifting us with breakthrough energy throughout 2017 off and on until Nov 2017. The Soul Centered ruler of Aquarius is Jupiter, currently at 23 degrees Libra (expansion and growth of your spiritual vision). He is sextile Saturn (easy opportunities) but opposite Uranus (push/pull energy in relationship between self and other). Jupiter and Uranus are square (motivation for change) Mercury at 15 degrees Capricorn (our thoughts and perceptions about society) and Pluto at 17 degrees Capricorn (transforming ourselves and society). This would be a T Square (feeling backed into a corner) but the Asteroid Goddess Vesta is at 25 degrees Cancer (commitment to your spiritual path) and gives us the doorway out. So we are being supported to follow our Soul’s Wise Guidance as we live our dreams. This is a Cardinal Grand Cross (breaking out of whatever box we are stuck in) and will be repeated from now until the end of April. The Universe always gives us many chances to break free. And today Mercury (our thoughts, perceptions and how we communicate) leaves his retrograde shadow. Hurray!!!
In the Northern Hemisphere the second New Moon after Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year. This is that second New Moon and it is the year of the Fire Rooster. The characteristics of Rooster are enthusiasm, determination, and inspiration to create new beginnings. But Rooster’s shadow is to be vain and self-absorbed. The Fire energy relates to the planet Mars in Chinese Astrology and is inspired action. It is interesting as our planet Mars enters Aries, his home sign, Jan 28 at 12.39 am EST. Mars in Aries is inspired new beginnings. But he can also be overly impulsive and aggressive in his home sign. Make sure whatever energy you are working with to live your dream is for the Highest Good of All.
