In the North Country this was the Time of the Freeze Up New Moon. It was before sunrise as Snowy Owl and Shooting Star made their way to the Star Temple. The ground was frozen and the night air was crisp and the wind was cold. The sisters wrapped their parkas close to their bodies to keep warm. When they reached the Sacred Space they decided to build a fire to ward off the cold. As the flames grew higher they felt the warmth on their faces. It felt comforting.
From the still dark eastern horizon they heard Sister Moon’s soothing voice. “Although a New Moon usually heralds new beginnings this one is different. It is a Moon of healing, release, and transformation. It is asking you to let go of those things, whether physical, mental, or emotional, that keep you stuck and prevent you from moving forward and feeling free. Snowy Owl and Shooting Star it is very appropriate that you have built this fire. I ask you now to focus on what you are ready to release and feed it to the fire. The flames will open the doorway to magical renewal and new life. That is the promise of this New Moon cycle.”
Shooting Star knew what she was ready to release. Even though it had gotten better she still had a fear of being alone. It made her feel isolated and lonely. She wanted to enjoy her time alone and know in her heart she was never truly alone. Spirit was always walking with her. She fed that fear to the fire. Snowy Owl had a need to know she was doing things the right way. It stopped her from taking action when it was necessary to activate change. She was ready to release that need to know and just experience her being-ness. She was ready to be guided by her own Soul Wisdom when needing to take action. She fed that need to be right to the fire.
As the sister’s released their limitations and fears to the fire the flames surged higher. That was when they saw a Winged One twirling in the center of the fire. As the Spirit Guide rose higher its feathers of bright orange and pink had a red twinge at the edges. The young women knew it was The Phoenix, the Sacred Totem for this New Moon cycle. Sister Moon spoke again. “This is your guide for this cycle of healing and transformation. As you release your old fears Phoenix will fly with you to your new way of being never to be afraid again.”
Scorpio is the sign of death (releasing what no longer serves us) transition (making space for the new) and re-birth (renewal). In the Northern Hemisphere Medicine Wheel this is the Freeze Up New Moon Time with Snake, shedding the old through healing and transformation, as our guide. Snake is also the guide for Vesta (spiritual oneness) Jupiter (expansion of our spiritual vision) and Venus (self-love) all in Scorpio at this Lunation. In the Southern Hemisphere Medicine Wheel this is your Growing Time New Moon and your guide for all this Scorpio energy is Beaver, clearing the old and building the new. Since the Earth is in Taurus (inner groundedness) for the Northern Hemisphere Beaver guides her and for the Southern Hemisphere Snake guides her. And of course the Sacred Totem for Scorpio, The Phoenix, is guiding us all for this cycle and the planets visiting Scorpio.
The Clan Mother for this Scorpio New Moon cycle (and the other Scorpio planets) is Walks Tall Woman. She is the guardian of walking the truth and teaches the proper use of will as you walk your talk. She is the keeper of personal integrity and inner knowing. So important at this timing with what is going on in the world. She is the guardian of new pathways and teaches the right time to take action. Walks Tall Woman is also the keeper of your relationship to Great Mystery and guides you as you journey within The Source of All That Is. You can find more of her story in the 13 Original Clan Mothers and Earth Medicine both by Jamie Sams.
Our first planetary guide for this Scorpio New Moon is Pluto at 17 degrees Capricorn (transforming society) travelling with the Asteroid Juno at 19 degrees Capricorn (right use of will and being responsible for transforming our relationships to each other and the world). Mars at 16 degrees Libra (peaceful warrior) is the Soul Centered Ruler. Pluto and Mars are in a square aspect (finding new ways of doing things). Squares are motivation for change. Saturn at 26 degrees Sagittarius (spiritual foundation) is the ruler that guides Pluto and Saturn in turn is guided by Jupiter at 08 degrees Scorpio (transformed spiritual vision). Venus at 13 degrees Scorpio is the ruler of Mars (transformed relationships). Scorpio is definitely the dominant energy for this New Moon cycle.
The planetary dance is very dynamic at this New Moon. Saturn (responsibility) is square (new ways of doing things) Chiron at 24 degrees Pisces (healing the world wound by healing our own wounds). But Chiron is trine (removal of obstacles) the Scorpio New Moon (release and transformation). Also Saturn (personal responsibility) is trine (ease and flow) Uranus Rx at 25 degrees Aries (breaking through to the Authentic Self). But Uranus is inconjunct (adjustment and letting go) the Sun/Moon in Scorpio (releasing the old). The message is clear; heal, release, and transform. One more connection to share. Mercury at 17 degrees Sagittarius (spiritual consciousness) is trine (removal of obstacles) the North Node at 18 degrees Leo (new directions guided by the compassionate heart). They are both sextile (easy opportunities) Mars at 16 degrees Libra (peaceful warrior). As the title of a recent book says “The Universe Has Your Back”.
Scorpio is active on the Tarot Constellation of The Emperor, the principle of Life Force and Realization of Power. This is not the ego power of manipulation and control that we continue to see in the world but the strength of honesty and trust in your Soul Essence Guidance. The Tarot Card associated with Scorpio is the Death card. This is a metaphor for releasing the old that no longer serves and stepping into the new. That is the purpose for this New Moon of Transformation cycle. The other energies of The Emperor are Aries and Uranus and of course the planet called the Awakener is in Aries and plays a part in this New Moon message as we have mentioned. (For more insights on Tarot Constellations I recommend “Who Are You in the Tarot?” by Mary K. Greer).
The Ray of this Scorpio New Moon is the Fourth Ray of Harmony Through Conflict or Beauty. It is the Ray of the human kingdom and you just have to listen to the news to know that the conflicts in the world the two-leggeds have instigated are continuing. It is also the Ray of the Root Chakra, fear or strength. The other astrological sign on this Ray is Taurus and that is the aspect of Beauty. As we mentioned in our current Lunation the Earth is in Taurus (whatever sign the Sun is in the Earth is in the opposite sign) and that is reminding us of the Beauty of this most precious planet. As humans it is our responsibility to bring the Earth Mother back into balance through harmony. As Gandhi said “be the change you want to see in the world.” It is time for the two leggeds to value, support, and honour All That Is and release the old ways.
The Archangels who guide us for this New Moon cycle are Gabriel, the angel of transformation and resurrection, and Hope, the angel of trust and faith. You can call on them at any time when you need to be reminded to have faith and trust in yourself on this Transformational Journey to your Authentic Self. Also work with the Medicine of Beaver, Snake and the Phoenix as you release what no longer serves you. It will be more effortless than you ever thought it could be.
So build your fire. Release what no longer serves you by feeding it to the fire and become the Phoenix. Fly on the wings of LOVE to your NEW WAY OF BEING.
