Summer Solstice in the North and Winter Solstice in the South: 20/21 June 2013

summer_winter_solstice

Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere- June 20- 10.04pm PDT and June 21- 1.04am EDT- 5.03am GMT- Winter Solstice in the southern hemisphere-  June 20/21- If you check a time zone map of the world you will find the correct time for your location. But here are a few locations; Buenos Aires, Argentina- June 21- 2.04am- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil- 2.04am-Johannesburg, South Africa- 7.04am- Sydney, Australia- 3.04pm- Auckland, New Zealand- 5.04pm.

In the northern hemisphere The Medicine Wheel and Astrological year are in alignment. Spring Equinox is the 00 degrees 00 Aries point and the East Direction on the Medicine Wheel; the place of spiritual awakening and new beginnings. Summer Solstice is 00 degrees 00 Cancer and the South Direction; the place of expansion, growth, and opportunities. Autumn Equinox is 00 degrees 00 Libra and the West Direction; the place of personal responsibility and empowerment. Winter Solstice is 00 degrees 00 Capricorn and the North Direction, the place of sharing knowledge and wisdom gained.

cancer

In the southern hemisphere the Zodiac Signs are the same as the north but the Medicine Wheel Directions and Equinox and Solstice Points are reversed. Wherever you are in the world on June 20/21 Grandfather Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer. He is at his northern most declination which is 23 degrees 26 at the Tropic of Cancer. Therefore Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere and the longest day. The solar force is strongest. In fact latitudes far north receive almost 24 hours of daylight therefore the expression “Midnight Sun”. In the southern hemisphere Grandfather Sun is farthest away therefore it is your Winter Solstice. The longest night or darkness so the lunar force is strongest. These Solstice Points are about growth. In the north it is expansion and blossoming. In the south although it cannot be seen the seeds are starting to stir deep within the Earth Mother to sprout at your Spring Equinox which is Sept 22/23 depending on your time zone.

coyote_the_trickster

The Guardian for Summer Solstice is Coyote, the trickster. He will be with us until our Autumn Equinox (Sept 22/23). He is creator, teacher, and holds the wisdom of magic. Coyote wants us to let go of being too serious and experience joy. Sometimes he will trick us so we have to laugh at ourselves. Coyote will be very strong when Mercury (the mind) is retrograde June 26 to July 20.  The planet that influences our thoughts and perceptions will be in Cancer (emotions) during the backward journey. When Mercury is retrograde he is the Trickster and carries Coyote Medicine. This summer season promises to be intense so learning to laugh will be good Medicine. Mercury clears his retrograde shadow Aug 03 so his trickster influence is with us until then.

whitebuffalo

The Guardian for Winter Solstice is White Buffalo. The medicine is gratitude for the abundance in our lives and treating all life as sacred. In the southern hemisphere as you experience the winter season go within and sit in silence and your prayers will be heard by Creator and Great Mystery. Silence also allows you to hear your Soul’s Wisdom. Mercury’s retrograde journey is also affecting you so Coyote is guiding you as well.

The Moon is a very important player for both Solstice Points as she rules the sign of Cancer. She is currently in Scorpio, healing, transformation, and release.  The problem is she is in a Void of Course phase and not “playing” with the other planets. When the Moon is Void it is time for looking within not time for outer action. She will actually be in an inconjunct aspect with Jupiter (expansion and growth) on June 21 at 2.44am EDT. (Make adjustments for your own time zone). An inconjunct can feel like a void as it requires adjustment. My advice is to use the time between now and June 26, when Jupiter enters Cancer, to redefine and realign your Spiritual Vision. Jupiter (expansion and grow) is exalted in the sign of Cancer so his influence is very powerful. And, oh yes, we cannot forget that we have a Super Capricorn Full Moon (the Moon’s closest approach to Earth this year) on Sunday June 23 at 7.32am EDT. Hold onto your hats!!! And of course Mercury goes retrograde on June 26 at 9.08am EDT so the influence of redefining and realigning continues.

Happy Solstices everyone. Just remember the Divine Plan will unfold as it is meant to and your Soul chose to be here to experience all Great Mystery has to offer. When you focus on your Sacred Vision you are in alignment with All That Is.
