Sun enters Taurus

Sun enters Taurus- April 19- 11.29 am EDT to May 20- 10.36 am EDT- In the Northern Hemisphere we have just entered the Frogs Return and Growing Time of our Medicine Wheel. And it finally feels like spring. The first 10 days of April did not. Here in Ontario we had more snow in those 10 days than we did in all of Jan to March combined. In fact March was so mild that the trees were budding and the plant people were pushing their heads above the Earth.

Then we had an ice storm just before Easter weekend. Lots of destruction to the trees and planets. So they are having to start over again. Kind of a metaphor for what is happening in the world. The Animal Totem guide for the Growing Time is Beaver, clearing out the old and building the new. Again that is what many people are having to do whether they want to or not. In the Southern Hemisphere this is the Frost and Transformation Time on your Medicine Wheel. It is the time when Snake, shedding the old, guides you. It is a time for healing and letting go.

Astrologically when the Sun visits Taurus it is the time to identify what is of true value and importance in our lives. This is especially true on the physical/material plane, but also spiritually. Taurus is the sign most associated with The Buddha. It is believed he was born, achieved enlightenment, and ascended into heaven during the Sun’s journey through this fixed earth sign. The Full Moon in May celebrates The Buddha’s entrance into Samadhi (enlightened illumination) each year at The Wesak festival. In Vedic astrology (Sidereal Zodiac) this year that is on May 21 when that Full Moon occurs in the Sidereal Zodiac in the signs of Scorpio/Taurus. Buddha taught to rise above material desire and walk the middle way. The balance between the material and the spiritual. To bring the light of spirit into the material plane. In western astrology (Tropical Zodiac, which I use) the Scorpio/Taurus Full Moon is on April 21/22. So we can say it is the opportunity to begin our journey to enlightenment and illumination that is celebrated at the May Full Moon.

For the Sun’s journey through Taurus (Tropical Zodiac) to May 20 our planetary ruler is Venus, currently in Aries (until April 29 when she then enters Taurus). In Aries she encourages us to focus on new inspired creative ideas and expression. But the Sun in Taurus encourages us to focus on what is of true and lasting value and release what is not. The Soul Centered ruler for Taurus is Vulcan, our hidden wounds. So although Venus is pushing us to begin anew we have to clear out the old to make space for that new. The planet Mercury (our thoughts and perceptions) currently in Taurus (what we value) will turn retrograde on April 28 (23 degrees Taurus) and be in backward motion until May 22 (14 degrees Taurus). Mercury retrograde in Taurus encourages us to clear our clutter on the material, mental, and emotional levels. If you are already feeling that it is probably because Mercury entered his retrograde shadow on April 14. He clears his shadow on June 07. So the planets are supporting us to focus on what is of true value in our lives and release what is not.

The Sun in Taurus (and Mercury in Taurus) activate the Tarot Constellation of The Hierophant, the principle of learning and becoming the wise teacher (Who Are You in The Tarot by Mary K. Greer). Taurus is found on the 4th Ray (Ageless Wisdom Teachings through Alice Bailey) of Harmony through Conflict or Harmony through Beauty with Archangels Gabriel, resurrection, and Hope, never giving up, as our guides. The Clan Mother (the 13 Original Clan Mothers by Jamie Sams) who guides us for this Taurus journey is Listening Woman, guardian of the Stillness and Inner Knowing. She teaches us to hear the Truth.

I hope I have given you an idea of the energies for the next astrological month. We will be back soon with insights about the Scorpio/Taurus Full Moon of April 21/22 (depending on your time zone). And just remember whatever is going on in the world Archangel Hope is reminding us to never give up. May we all send healing love to the people and animals in Ecuador and Japan that have been affected by the recent earthquakes. And to the Earth Mother herself. Taurus is the fixed earth sign and a symbol for our precious Gaia.
