In the North Country this was the first New Moon of the South Direction on the Medicine Wheel, the time of growth and expansion. Snowy Owl and Shooting Star had felt a sense of urgency all day and needed to ask The Shaman why. What was the power of the planetary dance that made them feel the importance of this New Moon cycle that was coming? So the sisters went to The Shaman’s cave to receive his guidance.

“Sister Moon has asked me to tell you this Moon ceremony will be held at the banks of the river that flows through your land. This New Moon is in honour of The Ancestors”. The Shaman told them. “As you know your Grandmother, Snow Goose, can no longer climb the path to the Star Temple as she must use a walking stick for support. She is an important part of this Moon ceremony as she has much wisdom to share. Go now and listen for the sound of the drum and you will find the place where the ceremony is.”

The young women emerged from The Shamans cave just as Grandfather Sun was setting in the west but they heard no sounds to guide them to the ceremony. Maybe The Shaman was wrong they both thought. And then as if Great Mystery read their thoughts the sound Bar-um, Bar-um, Bar-um filled the night air. Snowy Owl and Shooting Star followed the sound to the river bank and saw the bonfire that marked the place where the ceremony was happening.

Their mother, Flicker, and grandmother, Snow Goose, were sitting around the big drum joined by the Medicine Men who took part in Moon ceremonies that were to honour the Sacred. Red Crab, Black Beetle, and Painted Turtle only appeared when the message was very important. The sisters joined the group and began to play the drum with the others. The sound carried into the night until the drum fell silent on its own. That was when Sister Moon began to speak.

“As the Shaman told Snowy Owl and Shooting Star this New Moon cycle is in honour of The Ancestors. It is to have gratitude for the wisdom of the human lineage that preceded you. That is why it was important for grandmother Snow Goose to be here. She has always taught her granddaughters to follow their dreams.” Sister Moon paused for a moment and then continued speaking directly to Snowy Owl and Shooting Star. “But this New Moon is also about honouring the Ancestral Guides and Teachers who walk with you as you follow your spiritual destiny path. The spiritual quest will always have challenges to be resolved and barriers to break through. That is when the Unseen Guides are there to support your journey. All you have to do is open your hearts and they will speak to you with ancient knowledge and wisdom and guide you to the next part of your journey. This New Moon cycle is to remind you your life journey is like the flowing river. Sometimes it is quiet and peaceful. Other times the river is turbulent and raging overflowing its banks. It is learning to master the turbulence within so you are like the quiet and peaceful river and flow easily with whatever is happening.”

Sister Moon fell silent but the group sitting around the drum felt the power of the message. Each one knew they still had some lessons to learn about inner peace. That was the journey of life. That was the journey for this Moon cycle.

As our story told us this is the first New Moon of the South Direction on the Medicine Wheel for the Northern Hemisphere. It is the Hot Sun and Long Days Moon Time. The South is the place of expansion, growth, and learning to trust our intuition. That really means learning to trust ourselves. For the Southern Hemisphere this is the first New Moon of the North Direction on your Medicine Wheel. The North is the place of reflection and transforming knowledge into wisdom and sharing that wisdom.  This is your Earth Renewal Moon Time. It is a time for inner connection and nurturing the self so you can share your spiritual gifts.

Astrologically for both Hemispheres this is the Cancer New Moon. The key phrase for Cancer is “I FEEL EVERYTHING DEEPLY”. This sign is Cardinal Water. Cardinal is the action quality and water is emotion but also intuition. As our story told us life is a river and I associate the sign of Cancer with the river. The Abraham Teachings (through Esther Hicks) tell us most often we are paddling our canoe (the canoe is you) upstream against the current. At some point, through an experience of awakening, we realize if we turn the canoe around the current will support us to flow downstream to our destination. Abraham often asks “is that an upstream thought (going against your own flow) or a downstream thought (going with the flow). Since this Cancer New Moon is about Emotions and the river of life that is a good question to ask. Are you paddling upstream against the current (experiencing life as difficult) or are you allowing the flowing river to guide you with ease and effortlessness. For anyone not familiar with The Teachings of Abraham for this particular Moon cycle I recommend “The Astonishing Power of Emotions” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. The planetary dance leading up to this New Moon has been very energetic with conjunctions (action or agitation) squares (finding new ways of doing things) and oppositions (finding a balance between opposing forces). The oppositions (3 of them) have all involved Pluto Rx in Capricorn (transformation, release, and rebirth). Now at the New Moon the planetary ruler for this Lunation is the Moon in Cancer (deep feelings). The Sun and Moon (New Moon) are at 23 degrees Cancer square Uranus at 20 degrees Aries. Squares ask us to do things differently and this one is asking us to break through to the authentic self and flow with the river which is our life. Uranus is square Pluto at 14 degrees Capricorn reactivating the theme of make a decision, take action, break free from the old and break through to the new. Pluto is in a wide opposition to the Sun/Moon forming a T SQUARE (feeling backed into a corner). The stressed point of the T SQUARE is Uranus in Aries (breaking though to a new authentic life).

Pluto is also in an exact opposition with Mercury and Mars at 14 degrees Cancer. Are your thoughts and actions upstream (going against the flow) or downstream (flowing with the river of your life)? This opposition also forms a T SQUARE with Vesta at 10 degrees Aries. This Asteroid is a symbol for at-oneness-within especially spiritual oneness. In Aries she is alignment with the I AM Self. Vesta is the point of stress in this T SQUARE. The question is are you living your authentic life in alignment with your Soul’s Wisdom? If not the question is why not. This New Moon is the opportunity to step onto the Mystical Path and walk your spiritual destiny. 

There’s more to the planetary dance. Saturn Rx at 28 Scorpio (transformation and release) is square Venus at 29 Leo (the ego or the compassionate heart) and Jupiter at 24 Leo (your creative vision). The sign of Cancer is your spiritual destiny path so it is time to come into alignment with your Soul’s Guidance. Saturn Rx is also the ruler of Pluto in Capricorn and the Earth also in Capricorn (the Earth is always opposite the Sun). Capricorn is the symbol for Soul Purpose, the spiritual reason for being here on the Earth Mother. By the way the Saturn/Venus square is active until August 07. Venus goes retrograde July 25 and Saturn moves direct Aug 02. On Aug 03 Saturn will again square Jupiter. So whatever occurs at this New Moon regarding Saturn (transformation) Venus (the compassionate heart) and Jupiter (spiritual vision) is with us until Aug 07. Notice I give the positive vibrations.

Which leads us to the gift of ease and flow and harmony at this powerful New Moon. The Sun and Moon in Cancer are creating a Grand Water Trine (intuitive guidance and Soul alignment) with Saturn Rx in Scorpio (deep healing and transformation) and Chiron Rx at 21 degrees Pisces (healing the separation from the Oneness). Each one of us has the opportunity to turn our canoe around (stop paddling upstream against the current) and flow with the river that is our life with ease and harmony. The Universe and Great Mystery may challenge us but there is always a rainbow after the storm.

Cancer is the sign of our roots and ancestry, our current family tribe, and our emotional reactions to life. But it is also the sign of mastering the emotions and stepping onto the Mystical Path and living our Spiritual Destiny. Flicker of the Woodpecker family is the guide for this Moon cycle as we learn the lesson of mastering the emotions. This Animal Totem teaches how to experience transition effortlessly and easily so transformation can occur.  This Winged One reminds us that when we experience transition in our life IT IS leading to transformation and new opportunities. This is also a time for new growth, expansion, healing, and love.

Loves All Things is the Clan Mother for this Cancer New Moon. She is the Guardian of non-judgmental, compassionate, and unconditional love. She teaches us the wisdom of allowing and respecting the sacredness of all life. The Tarot Constellation that is activated by this New Moon is The Chariot, the principle of Mastery Through Change. It is the vibration of the Sacred Number 7 which is found in all spiritual traditions. I call it stepping onto the Mystical Path. In the symbolism of the seventh Tarot card a chariot is being pulled by two horses. One is white and the other is black. They are trying to go in different directions. The Charioteer needs to find inner mastery and channel that power into the horses so they will unite and move forward together taking the Charioteer where she or he wants to go. The Horse is a symbol for strength, movement, and freedom.

This Cancer New Moon is expressed on the 7^Th Ray of Ceremonial Order and White Magic. It is the Ray of Ascension with Archangels Zadkiel, Invocation and Prayer, and Amethyst, Forgiveness and Freedom as our guides. They are the Keepers of the Violet Flame of Transmutation and Illumination. The other Ray is the 3^rd of Divine Mind and Active Intelligence with Archangels Chamuel, Divine Love and Adoration, and Charity, Gratitude and Grace.  As always these Archangels will guide us with Love and Divine Compassion when we call on them. They are emissaries of Creator and Great Mystery.
