It can be difficult at times to truly understand how this "reality" of ours can be nothing more than an illusion. In this discussion with William LePar's spiritual source, The Council, they talk about this very topic.

Questioner:  I believe you mentioned something along the lines of Pharaoh's magicians being able to perform magic acts, and that Moses' acts were coming from our God.  How were Pharaoh's magicians able to perform their magical deeds?  Where was this ability coming from?

The Council:  Well, magical acts or illusions are just that, magical acts and illusions, they're sleights of hands, and what have you, dealing either with the ability of an individual to manipulate attention, manipulate objects.  Those things that go beyond such efforts then can be utilized by a negative force.

Questioner:  I'm thinking of the movie the Ten Commandments where it portrayed when Moses turned his rod into the snake and then Pharaoh's magicians or priests were also able to do this.  Now, would they have been actually capable of turning a piece of wood into a snake?

The Council:  Well, we just didn't see the movie.

(Laughter)

The Council:  No, all jesting aside, now.  Such things are possible. You must realize again that your physical situation is controlled only by your mind.  We try to constantly impress upon you how much of nothing there is to all this physical existence that you put so much importance to.  It is nothing, absolutely nothing, for any of you to change a stick into a snake.  It is absolutely nothing; it is just your desire to do so.  It is your willingness to believe that the material manifestation can be manipulated to suit you, for either your spiritual growth or your spiritual decline.  So for Moses or for the Pharaoh's priests to play a game of competition with each other, it is nothing. It is nothing, nothing.  You find it very hard to accept or to understand because your world today is far too involved with the material manifestation. You think things are too solid, are too real.  Back in those days and that has not been too long ago, really as far as time goes, they knew that the material was not as real as it appeared; and it was a matter of either allowing God to work through you to utilize that and prove it or it was of your own power that you did it or of a negative power that you did it.  That was the only difference between Pharaoh's priests and Moses; Moses allowed God to utilize him, where the priests used their own powers and in some cases the powers of negativity.  Now this is not to say, now mind this and mind this well, this is not to say that Pharaoh was a negative power for in Egypt they did have an understanding of the one God, although we must say their history bounces back and forth like a rubber ball, but Egypt's history is not steeped in negativity, more misunderstanding and political power plays than negativity.  So bear in mind that we are not saying that Egypt and its history is negative or evil.

Questioner:  At the time that Moses and his people were in bondage, was this not negativity or was this all part of a plan?

The Council:  Well, let us say that our Father did utilize a situation there, but He did not create it, man created it; and so it was out of this inhuman situation that God brought forth His Plan or allowed His Plan to come forth from.  You see, our Father only takes advantage of the strength of those who adhere to His Law when they are surrounded by negativity.  He glorifies those.  So that in that desperate situation those who clung to their God were able to channel great strength, spiritual strength.
