Polar Bearing
The leap into the
unknown has
no bearings.
Only wings.
Air.
A spark of
willingness
to let go.
No tethers.
No outcomes.
No knowable.
No map for this
nether of the
enchanted
wood,
world.
Just a
compass
that lights
from within
—as needed.
Hic sunt dracones.
'Here be dragons,' the
medieval maps read
for the uncharted,
unexplored.
But it evolved, this
cautionary writ, to
inform that while there
may well be dragons—
big dragons—where
they lie, diamonds
lay in wait.
This hardest
brilliance of earth’s
mantle pressurized
to perfection.
Painting the night sky
soft shimmers of star blaze,
pulling to dream time
the strong light of
day, when all
can be seen
from afar.
Spring reaches her
muscled tendrils out to
our wintered wither,
our antlers shed,
our leaves dust,
our husks dry
and drab.
Bidding our sap to rise,
buds to swell, hard ground
to give way to the
blossom of form
from its long,
deep rest.
Dreams incubated
in the downy snows
blink the sleep from
their lids, stretch their
limbs to the beck
of sunbeams,
descants of
love dancing
the rafters of
trees soon to
be filled with
shadows that
assuage heat,
offer cool balm.
Here, once more,
is sacred union between
light and night, betwixt
seeing and
sight.
All that’s
invisible
stirred to
emerge.
Showing
infinity to
all who
see.
There’s nothing to do
but glory in the
becoming
of all
unbecoming
its sojourn in
repose—its interlude
of replenishment, as no
living, growing earth thing
can continue on without
a pause to consider
its growth, its
breath.
To weave it into
and onto itself
with the perfect
imperfection of a
cobweb spider’s
silken mess of
art, and craft;
the debris-riddled
berth of a crocus
blooming here,
where it planted.
And so it goes,
all that is.
Unbroken,
unbreakable.
Winter into spring,
summer into autumn,
dark into bright, living
into evanescent life.
No division in this
relationship of relating,
mirroring, corresponding,
going round, coming round,
just a spectrum poised in
harmonic continuity.
An equivalence
of difference
showing
the way.
