How to make your affirmations so powerful that you can achieve what you want

Mind, they say, can move the mountains. It can also make your life heaven or hell.

It is not a secret known only to medical experts and psychologists that mind exercises a deep influence on our body and that 80% of health problems have roots in our sick mind. Most of us have noticed how our body reacts when we are under a state of stress.

There are people who start having motions in their bowels. The body starts profusely perspiring. Some people even start stuttering, stammering and wobbling as they walk.

People under constant stress experience a steep decline in their health. On the other hand, if we pep up our mind, it can also reinvigorate the body. We have often experienced how we feel when we are in a happy and positive frame of mind. We feel a kind of spring in our feet and feel like flying. Our appetite gets a boost. A wave of energy appears to run through our system.

It is also true that the occurrence of happy situations is not in our hands but if we allow ourselves to become sad and depressed, we not only lose our health and peace of mind, but our work and business may also suffer.

What, therefore, is needed is that we retain our equanimity and if possible zeal and enthusiasm all the time so that we can do our best in whatever situation we are without damaging out health and well-being.

So, how can we remain upbeat even when things are not going the way like?

One of the easiest ways to keep away from depression and stay buoyant is to create positive and optimistic affirmations depending upon the nature of our mental and physical requirements.

Affirmations can work wonders if only you know how to create and use them correctly.

But before that what exactly an affirmation is

An affirmation is a kind of repetition, a confirmation of a thought or an idea. It is, in fact, a MANTRA.

Interestingly enough we associate affirmations with positive thinking only. Affirmations can be negative as well. The sad truth is that most of the time we keep creating negative affirmations. The reason for that is that we remain apprehensive about our health, relationships, business, jobs, promotions, competitions, in fact, every desire and dream that we have put our heart and soul in.

The continuous trepidation about our failure generates thoughts that keep recurring, repeating as negative affirmations and cause adverse impact on our desires, dreams and overall health and well-being.

How do the affirmations work?

When we repeat a thought---whether positive or negative, our mind tends to adapt to it and influences our health and performance accordingly. Affirmations, whether positive or negative, tend to keep resonating and percolate down to our sub-conscious and in course of time start influencing our thoughts, performance, health and well-being.

The power of affirmations is based on the premise that what you think about constantly often tends to come about. We should, therefore, make a conscious effort to keep negative affirmations away and nurture a habit of making positive affirmations.

Mistakes in making affirmations

Most of us make affirmations in a wrong way and therefore do not benefit by their power and the whole exercise results in frustration and waste of time.

We generally make two mistakes in making affirmations.

Mistake number 1

While making affirmations, most of us focus on what we do not like to have. For example, we repeat:  I don’t want to gain weight./ I don’t want to be sick.

If we analyse it minutely we shall notice that in making such affirmations we are creating negative visions- nos and don’ts. We are goading our mind to think negatively, thereby, inculcating a harmful habit in our nature.

The best course is to think naturally and positively as per our desires.

So, what are our desires? They are:   I want to be slim. I want to be attractive. I want to be healthy.

This leads us to second mistake in making affirmations effectively.

Mistake number 2

The second common mistake is to make affirmations in future tense. For example: I will be thin. I will be healthy. When will this ‘future’ come? The future will never happen in now.

The best course is to focus on the present. The correct affirmation, therefore, should be: I am slim and smart. I am perfectly O.K. I am healthy. At once your mind forms visions of slimness, smartness and OKness. Your language should reflect your thoughts your mind will adapt.

The affirmations you craft should be couched in your everyday language. They should be   easy and specific. The visions of what you want to be should be clear and lucid like that of someone you love most.

Just say: I am—what you like to be.

You will be surprised to know how the ancient Indian sages or yogis used the affirmations to reach the highest stage of evolution into godhood. They made the affirmations- chanted mantras- in definite present tense. They created powerful visions of what they wanted to be and focused upon them with all their will-power, heart and soul with focus on the end result. And they succeeded in realising them too.  

Two most powerful affirmations— mantras in Sanskrit, the language of the ancient Indian sages-- which still continue to be chanted by millions of Hindus in their morning prayers  are:

lord-shiva

Shivohum- I AM SHIVA          

brahma

Brahma, another manifestation of God  

Ahm Brahmaasmi- I AM BRAHMA

Shiva and Brahma are two different names of God indicating their roles.

In practical terms both  the affirmations- mantras mean: I AM GOD

Note, even though a powerful desire, it is not made in future tense. This is not even I want to be. This is not even coming into effect; in fact, it has already come into effect. I am God--

Right NOW.

Here are some other affirmations in similar vein:I am a peaceful soul/person.

  • I am a strong and powerful soul/person.
  • I am a compassionate soul/person.
  • I am healthy and happy.
  • I am confident and self-reliant. 

You can create any affirmation according to your need, but remember you have to put all your heart and soul into the affirmation in a way it should keep reverberating in your consciousness like the refrain of an enchanting melody.
