Asking for Help

ask help

Do you ever have those moments (or even phases) where you lie to yourself to get out of something?

I think we all have done this at one point or another. I recently was in this very tricky spot, where I subconsciously was lying to myself regarding my personal development and growth.

After years of diligently living in self-help land: studying, learning, going to workshops, looking at myself, overhauling my life and much more, I found myself in a place where I had zero interest in any of it. My mind had somehow started to tell me that my work on myself was done, I was all good, and no further work needed. As we all know, this was far from the truth.

I think it’s easy sometimes to get into ruts, fall into comfortable patterns, or trick ourselves into believing that once we’ve achieved a certain spiritual “level” that the work is done, or at least, we don’t have to try so hard.

And so, this was my reality. Sure, I was maintaining my daily practices, but I was blocking myself from learning more and evolving into whom I ultimately want to be.

I recently had a conversation with a friend where she point-blank asked me if I was satisfied in various areas of my life. It was in this moment that I could no longer lie to myself. I had to face the fact that there was indeed some underlying unhappiness.

I realized that there was still work that needed to be done, and I was ready.

We know the universe will so wonderfully place in our path, exactly what we need, at just the right time, if you’re open and receptive to it.

A friend passed along to me some information about a weekend workshop called Design Your Life with the Handel Group that immediately sparked my interest, and soon afterwards I signed up for it. I felt nervous, anxious, and a little uncomfortable, as this was way out of my comfort zone—and because of all of this, I knew it was the right thing to do.

During this weekend I was asked to look at myself, my thought patterns, and my actions in an entirely new way. I delved into family histories and traits that I never could have imagined were influencing my life in this moment. I was encouraged to start taking responsibility for my life right now, and release any victim mentalities that I had been holding onto.

I looked into my heart to discover my true dreams and desires, and I created actionable steps to achieving them. This forced me to face some uncomfortable realities about myself that had been holding me back, and I am now working towards breaking through them, so that I can live my best life. Most of all, I felt empowered again and back in alignment with myself.

From this one weekend of saying yes to help, I opened up to a brand new way of thinking, a new process of uncovering habits that were holding me back, and a new sense of motivation to create my best life.

I have been reminded that personal growth is a lifelong journey, and it is an exciting one.

I’ve noticed so many shifts in myself, my work, and my relationships, in such a short amount of time. This happened simply because I was open to it, and I was willing to receive help and guidance.

Life truly starts to feel magical and meaningful when we step outside our comfort zones, acknowledge where there is work to be done, and trust that it is ok to have help along the way. People, places, and circumstances come into our lives for a reason, and I’m so grateful for all the people in my life who have nudged me, encouraged me, and opened me up to new possibilities.

Here’s to always growing, learning, and living our best and most meaningful lives! I hope starting this discussion is beneficial for you, as it is always my intention to be a source of guidance and help for you! Let me know in the comments your thoughts.
