Michelle’s Choosing to See the Good Challenge

see good

I was talking to my mom the other day about the topic of my blog for this week. I was rattling off a few ideas that I’d been ruminating on, when she blankly looked at me and said, “You’re not going to do another doomsday blog, are you? We don’t need to be reminded of what’s negative. We need something lighthearted.” Though my first inclination was to argue with her on that (as mothers and daughters do), I sat there for a moment, thinking about what she had just said, and realized she was right. This week I’d like to share with you my challenge for choosing to see the good.

Everyday we need some time for lightheartedness; we need a reminder to focus on the good. Lately I’ve felt called to share my tips and tricks on managing life when it gets tough, and to be honest with you, these past few months have felt tough. Even in these tough times, I find myself recalling the Aristotle Onassis quote, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”

While there will always be sadness, disappointment, anger, and injustices in the world, we must also remember that real happiness, good news, and positive things are there too. Life is never all one thing. It is never all bad, and it is never all good. Both are equally important, and both have incredible meaning in our lives. The disappointing parts of our lives show us where we have work to do. Noticing the good in life, creates the space for infinite possibilities.

This week I challenge you to focus on the good. Rather than festering deep seeded anger for something going wrong, have gratitude for you ability to notice it, learn from it, and choose again. Rather than harping on what’s lacking, remember what is already present. Rather than picking up on someone else’s flaws, strive to find the beauty that is within each and every person.

Life is all about choices. We choose our thoughts, and we choose our actions that ultimately lead us down our own life’s path. Choosing to see the good, even when it’s hard, will ultimately bring you to where you want to be. I hope you’ll join me in my challenge to see the good. Though we are all different in so many ways, we all are sharing this time and space together as one, and I’m so grateful for all of you who are here with me!

Let me know your experiences along the way in the comments below.

xoxo, Michelle
