Taurus - Full Moon Meditation

«I see and when the eye is opened all is enlightened.»
(April 21 - May 20)

Introduction

This full moon meditation series is based on an astrological interpretation of the twelve labors of Hercules from the Greek myth.

The twelve tasks of Hercules are symbolic lessons for every human from the way of selfishness back to the Heart of God. As mortals we do not exactly know the way to the higher worlds but the path itself knows and leads us through sometimes dramatic experiences to our goal. So we travel "on the path until we become that path", from Aries to Taurus - and further through all the astrological signs to Pisces.

In Taurus light sets the standard tone. First comes the premonition, later the certain knowledge; eventually we recognize the same light in every human until we finally see the light of God everywhere.

Abstract

In Taurus, the second sign of the astrological year, Hercules is called from his own inner light to his next task:

Cross the island to the sunlit isle to seek and find the bull. Lead it to the Holy Place where the one-eyed men dwell.

Hercules gets a new chance after the partial failure in Aries. From place to place he chases the bull which Minos, the King of Crete, wants to sacrifice. Hercules is led by the gleaming star which shines upon the forehead of the bull like a bright lamp in a dark place. After a long search and many pains he captures the bull, mounts on his back and rides it like a horse across the glimmering water to the isle of Crete escorted by the seven singing Sisters unto the land where the three Cyclops dwell. So Hercules fulfills his task and the sacred bull is rescued securely to the Holy Place.

Explanation

The upwardly horns of Taurus simulate a bowl in which many lights are hidden, a labyrinth of lights deep burried in the bowl. This garden of lights represents the many weak and feeble qualities of our selfish personality aspects. They must be transformed before the "One eye" can project its light. The "one" or "third" eye is a symbol of the Ajna-center in the aetheric body situated in the region between the physical eyebrows. Through the illumination which originates in the heart 'all is enlightened when the third eye is opened'. During our travel through the signs of the zodiac, this indwelling light must shine brighter and brighter until it becomes a beam of radiation. The temple in the story is a symbol of the sky or heaven where the bull has to be rescued and the Cyclops signify the main stars in the sign of Taurus. 'To ride the bull' means to overcome all the wishes, desires and demands which are so dear to us and to learn to control them like a chariot driver.

We always receive the necessary power to accomplish a laborious task - however we have to apportion our resources. Each sign transmits specific powers and indicates certain tendencies. All of us try to make use the particular energies available. To fan the flame of our inner light is the ultimate goal for all our activities and the many ventures we undertake. When we draw the right lessons from our errors and failures, success is guaranteed in the end and we obtain mental and emotional stability to master the power of creativity.

Again and again the signs of the zodiac indicate to us the symbols of our resemblance to God. We really need to learn to 'ride the bull' (to manage our desires) to make our lives happy and to succeed with the next step on our path.

Meditation on the seed thought of the month

  1. Remain in silence for some minutes.
  2. Sing three times: OM.
  3. Ponder upon the seed thought for 3 to 5 minutes:
«I see and when the eye is opened all is enlightened.»
  4. Recite the following mantra:
I am a point of light within a greater light.
I am a strand of loving energy within the stream of love divine.
I am a point of sacrificial fire, focused within the fiery will of God.
    And thus I stand
    .
  5. Sing again three times: OM.
  6. Recite three times: May all living beings in all the worlds be happy.
  7. Remain in silence for three minutes, than end with:
    Peace, Peace, Peace.
