History and Origin of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.

It is an art and science which seeks to explore the physiological, psychological and spiritual realm of the individual's response to aromatic extracts as well as to observe and enhance the individual's innate healing process.

As a holistic medicine, Aromatherapy is both a preventative approach as well as an active treatment during acute and chronic stages of illness or 'dis'-ease.

It is a natural, non-invasive treatment system designed to affect the whole person not just the symptom or disease and to assist the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself by the correct use of essential oils.

Aromatherapy - A Primer

lavender_farmWhat is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from plants for healing purposes. The word aroma in aromatherapy is misleading because essential oils are not solely used as inhalants. They can also be massaged into the skin or even taken orally (although this is less common). Whether inhaled, absorbed, or ingested, essential oils are gaining new attention as an alternative treatment for infections, stress, and other health problems. (Note: essential oils should never be ingested without specific instruction from a trained and qualified specialist.)

Pure Essential Oils Have Very High Frequency

The effectiveness of essential oils cannot be fully understood without some discussion of frequency.

Frequency is a measurable rate of electrical energy that is constant between any two points. Every living thing has an electrical frequency. Robert O. Becker, M.D., documents the electrical frequency of the human body in his book, The Body Electric. A “frequency generator” was developed in the early 1020’s by Royal Raymond Rife, M.D. He found that by using certain frequencies, he could destroy a cancer cell or virus. He found that these frequencies could prevent the development of disease, and others would destroy disease. Substances with higher frequency will destroy diseases of a lower frequency.

Essential Oil Background

Essential oils are some of the most concentrated natural extracts of plants known, exerting significant physiological and psychological affects. Essential oils are called the life force or blood of plants.

These volatile liquids are stored in special cells, ducts or glandular hairs that are distributed among the roots, leaves, bark, stems and flowers of plants. Essential oils protect the plant from insects and other herbivores, bacteria, molds, fungi and other micro-organisms.
