Astrology for Beginners
By Joyce Luciano
If You Ever Wanted To Become An AstrologerThis Is The Book That Will Make You One! Read The Introduction And Some Excerpts From This Informative Course In Astrology.
Introduction
This book is not only written for the aspiring Astrology student. It also serves to give an understanding of Astrology to those who are interested in the subject.
For the serious student there are no shortcuts. This is a comprehensive course for the beginner.
When the provident student completes this course, they will be capable of erecting a Natal Chart and interpreting the Chart.
The course is the same one that I have taught for over forty years to aspiring Astrologers. There are thirty-two in depth lessons to study and commit to memory.
They should be read and studied in groups of four lessons. The student is required to take each test that is provided at the end of all four lesson groups. Rather than assume the novice has a knowledge of what a Natal Chart is or does and that it is not solely based on a Sun Sign, a complete discussion is contained in Chapter One.
Far too often people read a description of their Sun Sign feeling it vaguely describes them. As a result, they have no further interest in the subject and write it off as pure nonsense.
To believe every single person born under a given Sign will be exactly the same as another born under that same Sign is not only ludicrous, it is impossible.
It would be the same as believing all ethnic groups are exactly alike. Yet, persons with above average intelligence have been known to form such an opinion of Astrology.
There are twelve Houses in the Zodiac. A different area of life is represented by them such as finances, health, career, love, marriage and so forth.
It is the Ascendant/Rising Sign that filters each and every personality. The Sun Sign is the background of the personality.
Sun Sign and Ascendant are not usually the same but sometimes they are. These are the people who read about their Sun Sign and feel it describes them perfectly.
For example, the author is Sun in Libra with Aquarius Rising. The reader may be a Double Libra, Double Scorpio and so forth.
Initially studying Astrology can be overwhelming. A great deal of students are unaware that the basis and or the foundation of Astrology is pure mathematics.
Any forthright Astrologer will convey, those first few lessons made them question why they decided to pursue the study of Astrology in the first place. Not omitting those great Astrologers who decided to study it, purely to debunk Astrology only to discover that it works. Astrology is an ancient science often referred as an exact science.
In the hands of a competent Astrologer it is a wonderful magnificent tool that helps us understand why there are periods of time in our lives where we feel depressed, incur losses both emotional and monetary to mention a few.
On a personal level, since the time I had been appointed Paterson, New Jersey’s Official Witch by Mayor Pat Kramer, I have had countless people come to me believing a Spell was on them. After assuring them I would know if there was a Spell and almost ninety-nine percent of the time, there is not.
For most, it is the Saturn Return. This occurs for each of us at approximately ages 29 to 31. It occurs every thirty years for all of us. The Saturn Return lasts a little over two years.
That is just the tip of the iceberg, it can be Saturn Transit the Ascendant and or Rising Sign. Saturn Conjunct Venus and the list goes on and on. Many people feel they are doomed. But when they come to understand that Saturn is the "Taskmaster," the tester whose lessons can be harsh, they are relieved.
Once the Transit ends we are not only much stronger, we are much better. It is important to fully explain to the client, how and why we are subjected to these tests.
At this point the novice is wondering what these Returns, Transits, Conjuncts, Ascendant/Rising Sign all mean. You are not alone. We’ve all been there perhaps even more confounded than the reader. Be assured that in a few weeks it will seem commonplace reading, hearing and saying these very words.
Taking the first step is what really counts. This is the beginning of a new journey, one that can give a much greater understanding of self, others and life itself.
Some Excerpts:
Chapter One
Understanding Astrology
Historically, Astrology has been and still is one of the most misunderstood and maligned subjects.
A great deal of the populace mistakenly believe those horoscopes columns in the newspapers are Astrology. It is not. These columns are not only misleading they are detrimental to Astrology. The supposed predictions are general and based on the "Motion of the Moon."
The Moon Transits (travels) through a different Sign of the Zodiac approximately every two days each month. However, the Moon is fleeting and makes for certain influences on daily events.
For instance, during Moon in Scorpio as a whole there is more secrecy. People are less likely to be more open.
Moon in Sagittarius as a whole people are more open and quick to discuss their own philosophical views.
An Aquarius Moon, as a whole expect the unexpected.
These so called "Daily Horoscopes" are not personal. They are broad and analogous to implying that all persons born under a certain Sun Sign, will have the exact same daily experiences.
The Moon’s daily travels do play a certain role in our lives but again, the Moon is fleeting.
Where and how those Motions affect us depends upon which House the Moon is transiting in our own Natal Chart.
A Few More Excerpts...
Astrology is not simply knowing the characteristics of the Sun Sign. The Sun Signs are best compared as to being the background of the personality unless one is a Double Sag, Scorpio, etc. Our approach to various life situations are dictated by the Houses, Planets and Aspects.
Each of the twelve Houses in a Natal Chart have their own specific purpose. The First House which is also known as the Ascendant or the Rising Sign is the personality. It is how we appear to the outer world.
The Second House is value, finances and so forth. The student will commit all twelve Houses to memory.
An Astrologer knows love and compatibility are not found by the Sun Signs. It’s not as simple as the proverbial question of the sixties, "what Sign are you?"
We do a Chart Comparison of both persons involved. Next we look to see the Planets each brings to the other and the Houses involved. This is followed by the Aspects, Rising Signs.
Many times two people experience what Astrologers call, a Uranian attraction. It draws them together very quickly. Unfortunately for most, those feelings and relationships end equally as abruptly as they began.
Others aren’t so lucky. Something seems to keep them bound together longer than they should. Some may marry and feel the marriage was made in hell.
Uranian attractions are named for the planet Uranus. It produces a dynamic attraction between two people. The chemistry is incredible.
More Excerpts....
Through the centuries Astrology has been venerated then condemned only to be venerated again.
In the current time there are many people who believe Astrology is the work of the devil. Others admonish that it goes against God. The mere mention of the word Astrology is something they do not permit. The word is offensive as far as they are concerned.
Astrology became labeled, an occult science. The word occult means hidden. Not surprisingly, its etymology arose in the 16th century possibly because Papal Bulls became effective banning Astrology thus, it became hidden
There is nothing supernatural, secret or beyond human comprehension about Astrology. It is an exact science, purely mathematical.
There are various schools of thoughts as to the origins of Astrology. Some believe it appeared during the Bronze Age (3800BC-3000BC).
It is widely accepted that from within Mesopotamia the Babylonians discovered that the motion of the, planets, sun and moon as they pass through the heavens served as a measuring ruler when divided into equal segments or sections for celestial time.
These ancient Babylonians placed twelve of the known constellations as representatives for these segments which are mainly comprised of the names of animals. The exception being the Signs Gemini (the twins), Libra (the scales). Thus, the Zodiac is a circle divided into twelve separate sections.
