Mercury goes retrograde at 26 Libra on September 26. Today we take a look at some primary factors in the coming retrograde.

An Overview of the Retrograde

The coming retrograde will show us a new look at recent signals and information that we sent or received, and we’ll have opportunities to take a new look at ways to be guided to our Soul. This one will give us multiple angles of understanding about how our past created our present, or how our present will create our future.

As with all Mercury retrograde periods, this will give us a new look at recent signals and information that we sent or received, and things from the past will be reviewed, re-examined, reevaluated, or understood differently. We can get a new look at our ideas, ways we’re communicating and understanding what others are communicating to us, and get new insights into all things related to Libra energy from now through late October.

We will all get “one last look back” so we may find a different perspective on how we’ve learned to alternate between hard power and soft power this past year, as well as how events evolved first by yang energy, then by yin energy. This one helps us finish paying some dues, repair or reconstruct something of our individual spirituality, and give us insights into how we’ve developed since 1980-82.

The next 3 weeks will give us a new take on emergent developments, and what must be reviewed and released, or researched and rehearsed to prepare us to move forward in late October. Because of the “back to the future” quality of Mercury retrograde, we may also get glimpses of how the last 3 months have given us a new look at how our past has fed our future since we began to reshape parts of our expression and understanding in May.

This year’s Mercury retrograde lessons have involved added commitments, seeing where we and others are at on the evolutionary ladder, leaving elements of our past behind, pruning and shaping our expression, and transmuting physical vitality into the power to build ideas. This one brings us a revisiting of the themes of the year, as Mercury went SD at 26 Libra in November 2020. Since then we’ve all be learning how to alternate between yin and yang since then to reconstruct and/or repair something, including seeing how things came to be as they are/were.

So we enter a time of review, reflection, rehearsal, and new angles of focus on our interpersonal life and habits, preparing to round out our Libra functions in some important ways. Mercury retrograde is great for taking a new look at past actions, feelings, ideas, and people to come to a different perspective about how these impacted our lives since then. As per all retrogrades, we’re done with the initial approach where “the stone was thrown into the pond,” and now enter a time when the ripples will return to source in multiple ways.

Mercury Retrograde Is In A Consistent Element Emphasis

After 2020’s shifting Mercury retrograde element patterns, 2021 has brought us three Mercury retrogrades, all in Air signs and pretty much trine each other throughout the year! This is a major difference from recent years. The Feb-March 2020 retrograde began in Water and ended in Air, beginning a new transitional pattern. The June-July retrograde was the last one which began in Water and ended in Water, while the October-November retrograde began in Water and ended in Air, ending the transition between elements.

Mercury retrograde element patterns repeat over the years. In the “past as prologue” department, 2018 was entirely in Fire signs until the last one, which paralleled 2012. 2019 featured two Water to Water retrogrades, paralleling 2013. So in 2019 we moved from feeling to feeling in March, from inspiration to feeling in July, and feeling to feeling in Oct-Nov.

In 2020 we moved from Water to Air in the Feb-March retrograde, from Water to Water in June-July, and Water to Air in October-November, paralleling 2014, except then all 3 retrogrades began in Water and went back to Air. This year all three retrogrades have begun in the last decan of an Air sign, and retrograde back to the middle decan of that sign. This year parallels 2015, which also had all three Mercury retrograde periods in Air signs, and all trine each other, except they began in the second decan and ended in the first.

2022 brings us three Mercury retrograde periods. All three begin in early Air signs, and end in late Earth signs. the Jan-Feb RX begins in Air and ends in Earth. While the January 2016 retrograde had that, the other two began in Earth and ended in Earth. So this year we begin all three Mercury retrogrades in the associative element of Air and wind up in the practical element of Earth.

A Bit More

In the next 3 weeks, we can see what life has prepared for us since the last Mercury retrograde in May-June 2021. The next 3 weeks are a good time to finish up old karmic returns and issues, finding a balanced view between various types of understanding and approaches, and renew our lessons in spotting truth and lies, misrepresentations and corrosive attitudes and statements in the past which put things out of balance.

Again, all of this is within the year theme of seeing that sometimes we need to be more heart power, and other times we need to use more mind power. When have you needed to be “yin” and when did you need to be “yang” to achieve your goals, and what has happened which required you to alternate between the two?

This is a look back at prior individual, intellectual, or spiritual “reconstructions” which came to and from us in the past to see how to adjust the quality and strength of our responses. As with all Mercury retrogrades in Air signs, this will be a review of our relationships and how they contributed to our spiritual growth.

The Inferior Conjunction happens on October 9 at 17 Libra, just after Sun conjuncts Mars on that degree and just before Mercury retrograde conjuncts Mars on that degree! That “fusion of life and mind” will give us interesting insights into a) how an alternating use of energy in our responses helped us figure out how things came to be as they were, or what needed review and repair, and/or b) how we did that in the more distant past so we can help others to find ways to revolutionize their rhythm of expression in the present. Given that Saturn was dancing around this degree all of 2012, I suspect many of our insights and returns will relate to the lessons we learned back then.

So welcome to many things being reviewed or coming back up from your subconscious mind or your connection to the collective these next three weeks thanks to the retrograde. This one allows us to review and get a new look at how we’re using Libra energy in our lives, and review how we’ve moved forward since June. The retrograde is a great time for new insights into how we’ve been guided to our Souls, as prelude to clearer guidance from late October forward.

Summing It Up

For all of us, the next several weeks offer glimpses of future visions which will open many doors of higher understanding and greater clarity of self-expression. We now can move the commitment to a greater future and connection with our Spiritual Brothers and Sisters in a greater group vision and/or a greater ideal of how and what to contribute to a greater good in play all year into a more balanced, fluid understanding of how to move through experience with others as equals. We are again reviewing our past so we may get a new perspective on old interactive dynamics and our need to cooperate with the larger transformational energies by expanding our range of expression.

Renewals, returns, reconnections, reunions, and a sense of completion with glimpses of a new life are promised by this retrograde. And of course, more on this Mercury retrograde period will come over the next few days, including Sabian Symbols, Jones Pattern, aspects and more!

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn is in its home sign of Aquarius through 2023, it is the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius, and had a major influence behind the scenes in the long wave cycles set into motion during the Great Compressions of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
