A busy Weekend in the Sky – time to go inward rather than take action…
Two major planetary events coincide in the skies this weekend - one day apart – Solstice and a Solar Eclipse. Both signify change, but with so many planetary energies in retrograde, the key changes are likely to be more internal, than external. However, we may feel inclined to externalize them in our relationships if the pressure feels too intense to contain.
As the Sun moves into Cancer at 22.43 (Irish time/ 17.43 EDT) this evening, there is a point of stillness, before we move forward. This year, one of the the key themes we are drawn to explore during this stillness, is our relationship with our family and friends. What is the connection between the two? What role do both, or either play in our life? What happens when our ideals and beliefs don’t fit in with one, or the other?
The New Moon Annular Solar Eclipse on Sunday June 21st
Commonly called the ‘Ring of Fire’ Eclipse, the annular phase will be visible from parts of Africa and Asia, including the Central African Republic, Congo, Ethiopia, southern Pakistan, northern India, and China. However, it will also be visible as a partial Eclipse in South/East Europe, Much of Asia, North in Australia, Much of Africa, the Pacific and Indian Ocean. If you are in one of these locations, you are more likely to resonate with the Eclipse energies tomorrow and in the weeks ahead.
Usually New Moons signify new beginnings, but with an Eclipse, the ‘letting go of the old before the new can start phase’, is a lot more intense. Occurring in Cancer, our emotions play a powerful role in this Eclipse, so don’t be surprised if you feel very emotional.
Key themes that are likely to come to the surface that have a strong bearing on our relationships include:
- Unfinished attachment issues from infancy. Our current relationship patterns can help us identify what our key attachment style is: secure, avoidant, anxious or disorganized? How is this affecting our current relationships? If it’s not serving us well, how might we change it?
- What role does security play in our relationships? How secure do we feel internally? Are we holding onto some relationships merely out of ‘familiarity and security’? Are our relationships helping us grow and expand, or are we regressing and/or stagnating?
Dr. Bernadette Brady describes this Eclipse as belonging to the Saros Series 4 North, and she advises against taking any actions right now as illusion is one of the trademarks of this family of Eclipses:
“Events can occur which seem to block the individual. In this blocking the individual is very prone to misjudge his or her strengths, or the situation, and is best advised to wait until the Eclipse passes before taking any real action.”

With so much going on in the planetary realms and within each of us, it’s an important time to self-care and self-nurture. If your natal Moon is is Fire, lighting candles can feel comforting, if your Moon is Earth, doing some gardening can feel good, If your Moon is in Air, meditation can help, and if your Moon is in Water, a long soak in the bath can provide comfort…
Wishing you all a safe and self-nurturing weekend! MG
