What’s Happening in December (and through 2025!)

This New Moon Total Solar Eclipse introduces a new focus wherever we have 13 Sagittarius, showing that all which would obstruct our “love coming forth as a spiritual realization” will be removed from our lives. This is an extraordinarily favorable New Moon Eclipse, showing that many things will be recycled so we are free to fly into a new life and feel delight at what we no longer have to deal with.

This is a New Moon which requires imagination, allowing prior inspired teachings to transform our everyday life and activities, and the willingness to accept “rewards for courage in action,” even if it means saying goodbye to things beyond our control. Every planet except Uranus is now moving forward, so it’s time to get things done as the inner planets close in on Pluto! Whatever is promised by this eclipse will be set into motion when Mars crosses 13 Sagittarius, so be alert on December 30-31.

An Overview of the New Moon

Today we’ll do an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In part 2 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.

This expansive, renewing, “quintessential” and future oriented Total Eclipse New Moon at 13 Sagittarius occurs at 11:43 pm PST on December 3, 7:43 am GMT on December 4. This one shows us we have grown since 2014 by allowing our truths to change the way we live life and deal with problems. Because of so many 5th and 10th house favorable specializing aspects, there is extraordinary good fortune and some delightful experiences promised by this eclipse, so bless the endings. With the stellium in Sagittarius, this one is totally future oriented, and with the North Node at 2 Gemini, we continue to be in a time of seeing the patterns of the future as they are “pre-formed” in the present. And for some, “Santa Claus is coming to town!

Overall, the energies are going to produce lines of tension, friction, and the need for “right action” wherever we have 9-13 degrees of the Fixed signs and 24-28 of the Mutable signs. If you have natal or progressed planets in these zones they also are in a time of dynamic activation and release! Saturn square Uranus teaches us to stay focused on the permanent patterns behind all things during this time of catabolic activity breaking down old structures, rules, and limitations.

We all are seeing what’s important as we learn to ignore the unimportant while expressing our part to play in the larger spiritual group(s) we’re involved in, demonstrating good Leo and/or Scorpio energies as circumstances require. Trust the process which brought you to this point of revelation and relative peace and enjoyment, since it opens many doors to new vistas.

This New Moon will jumpstart Sagittarius energy wherever it falls in our chart. Wherever we have Sagittarius will be a focus of a focused activity in our lives, so have a sense of humor as you dance with delight through the endings and renewals. As Sagittarius is a Mutable sign, this Lunation begins a month (and 4 years due to eclipse effects) of regeneration, revelation, expansion, and seeing how past karma has brought us to a point of serendipity in fulfilling who we are and what we’re to do.

A Look Back - The Great Compression in Capricorn Still Affects Us

In the first 90 days of 2020, we had a “Great Compression” of planets involving Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all making conjunctions in the last decan of Capricorn, setting off a number of Saturn cycles, one of which will last 33 years! We then began an accelerated phase of our collective spiritual evolution which will take us from the threshold of the Age of Aquarius into the Age itself. Because of the Capricorn conjunctions set in motion in 2020, we reorganized our lives wherever we have late Capricorn in our charts. These cycles will impact all of us for some time to come. Especially with three Jupiter conjunctions with Pluto last year, it’s easy to see that for better or worse things were “expansively purified.”

However, when Mars conjuncted Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, it set a cycle into motion which began to expand into a global system at the December 2020 Grand Mutation. That Jupiter/Saturn conjunction launched both a new 20 year Aquarian cycle AND a new 200 year era of Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions in Air signs. That means no more of the materialism of the past 200 years, with more of a focus on our commonality and ability to share ideas over the next 200! Saturn is leading us to understand a more timeless role to play to help create a better world. What is your purpose? What structures and self-disciplines do you need to fulfill the ideal of that purpose?

Occupied Signs and Oppositions

We’ve now finished the year’s inner planet oppositions to Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, and Uranus. Of course, if we have planets in late Cancer, early or late Leo, the last decan of Virgo, or mid-Scorpio we are going through some VERY long wave outer planet oppositions, with potential for very high awareness of how to ground new ideals, new public expression, and new ways to related to your larger spiritual group. The various types of the “Tension of Opposites” involved in those signs will come to the fore as the recent Lunar and current Solar Eclipses take away old Gemini, Cancer, Sagittarius, and Capricorn patterns, allowing newer ones to take shape.

The Sun/Moon Sequence and Its Shifts

There are two patterns: one with the Sun in the same sign as the Sun in the following Full Moon (New Moon between 1-15 degrees of a sign), and one with the Sun in a different sign than it’s in at the following Full Moon (New Moon between 16-30 degrees of a sign). I term these the “Natural” pattern and the “Alternate” pattern, since the Natural pattern shows a continuity of the Light, whereas the Alternate pattern bridges the Light across two signs.

Three months ago we began a new pattern of the New Moon Sun being in the same sign as the following Full Moon Sun. Each pattern has its importance in the Soli-Lunar sequence, and now we no longer “bridge the Light” across two different Light signs in the Lunation cycle. This month’s New Moon Eclipse is at 13 Sagittarius, and the coming Full Moon will be at 28 Sagittarius/Gemini, indicating that the Light of the seed forms of the New Moon will be illuminated in the same sign energy two weeks from now.

The New Moons and Full Moons are “God’s footprints in time.” Each shows the next in the 12 phases of how things come to be each year. The cycle could be described as follows: Life energy is initiated in Aries, substantiated in Taurus, explored in Gemini, grounded in Cancer, renewed and creatively expressed in Leo, refined and ordered in Virgo, balanced and made pleasing in Libra, purified and focused in Scorpio, expanded in Sagittarius, organized in Capricorn, solidified into a vision in Aquarius, and ended/perpetuated in Pisces.

Jupiter and Saturn

This is the twelfth New Moon of the new Saturn in Aquarius era which will last until the New Moon of February 2023. We are now finishing the second year of the cycle set into motion at its rare and very powerful conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn in January 2020, with a current Aquarian influence due to Saturn.

Taking a look back, in 2018 Saturn taught us through some sort of “planned group behavior.” 2020 brought us a “cosmic visitation” which “galvanized us into action” to “escape from adverse conditions.” In 2020 Nature challenged us to listen, look, and learn that we are not separate from Her, and evaluate what parts of our Self-disciplines and duties work and which ones don’t.

This year’s lesson involves a technique of spiritual acceleration by getting a vision, a plan, and a time to begin whatever will short cut the time needed for expanded awareness and effectiveness. Saturn is teaching us “the way within to outer success,” with a promise of “direct accomplishment.” These will begin to be realized in January 2022. Its recent direct station indicates we are now in a period of “new mutations based in Cosmos,” unrelated to past or local conditions. In other words, it’s safe to say we should expect something to show up which is a fresh “emanation” from Spirit so we may fulfill what has not been actualized before now.

One of Saturn’s divine qualities is understanding as a prelude to wisdom. With Jupiter leading the way into Aquarius where Saturn is following, Saturn is tracking what Jupiter opens. As Saturn traverses the span where Jupiter has danced, it will crystallize its understanding of what that span of experience is about, and how we can use it wisely if we find the right structure and discipline.

We’re now finishing our experience of the Jupiter in Aquarius era! Having opened to a greater compassion, or “fellow-feeling” when in Pisces, we’ve now gotten one more immersion in a new level of awareness of the collective atmosphere. Jupiter in the friendly Air of Aquarius has liberated us to be lighter and freer, and during its race through the first 30 degrees of Aquarius between late December and mid-May marked the rapid expansion of the emergent Aquarian energies set into motion for the next 20 years at the two 2020 conjunctions of Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn at 1 Aquarius.

Even though Jupiter’s 3 conjunctions with Pluto happened in 2020, remember they set long wave transformational energies into motion at 23 and 25 Capricorn which will be in play through 2033, so maintain your vigilance! We’ve been learning how to have a sense of humor despite the heaviness of the times, and learning to play, since taking things too seriously for too long makes life heavy. There are many ways to play, just as there are many ways to find humor.

Because of the multiple Capricorn and Aquarius cycles in motion for many years to come, we also can expect major developments to come wherever we have 23 and 25 Capricorn and 1 Aquarius in our charts. These signs indicate the ability to use the structures and disciplines of 2020 as tools to achieve the larger vision set into motion where we have 1 Aquarius. Focus on your part to play in some idealistic group work and relationships as you take a new look at the recent past these next few weeks, reshaping your understanding and expression.

So What Rules the Lunation?

This New Moon in Sagittarius has Jupiter as its worldly ruler, and Neptune as its spiritual ruler. Jupiter is in Aquarius, ruled by Saturn, making Saturn the ruler of the Lunation.

As usual, Saturn also rules all the other planets except Mars and Neptune. Mercury is in Sagittarius, Venus is in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, Mars in Scorpio rules itself, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are all ruled by Saturn, and Uranus, ruled by Venus, is ruled by Saturn. And beyond most of them, Neptune is in its home sign, continuing as a longwave “standalone” dispositor of itself, ruling the fogs and mists of the current collective consciousness. So we have three planets in their home signs, or “final dispositors,” this month. Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn rules every other planet except Mars and Neptune, and it’s begun to bring us “cosmic mutations” constituting a fresh emanation from the universe, it plays a large part in ruling the social and cultural cycles in our lives. Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this New Moon?

Because this section is so long, I created an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which signs have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality.

Though the Uranus biseptile Pluto is no longer in orb, we still have Uranus in a septile with Neptune, keeping the generic irrationality boosted in collective consciousness. These aspects indicate the very hard transformational edge in our nonrational times. In this Solar Eclipse, there are no inner planet septile series aspects to Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto, so the Grand Irrationality is not in play in this chart. However, it will be front and center when Mars moves through early Sag and triggers effects related to them all biseptiling Neptune and triseptiling Uranus.

The configuration is also activated when the Moon transits any of the 7 “hot zones,” as well as when planets make 7th harmonic angles to Uranus and Neptune. So this month we get a break from the larger “forks in the road” where late Pisces and mid-Taurus fall in our charts. This configuration is associated with the 7-pointed “Star of Destiny” active at this hard edge in history. Because at this time Uranus and Neptune are constant factors in the configuration, it keeps nonrational energies in play for those with a planet or point in any of the 7 affected “hot zones” near 27 Capricorn-1 Aquarius, 19-23 Pisces, 10-14 Taurus, 2-6 Cancer, 23-27 Leo, 15-19 Libra, and 6-10 Sagittarius.

Because the configuration is back to its narrow span of influence, the affected spans this month are back to 27 Capricorn- 1 Aquarius, 19-23 Pisces, 11-15 Taurus, 2-6 Cancer, 23-27 Leo, 14-18 Libra, and 6-10 Sagittarius. These spans have been under pressure for quite a while, and will continue into early 2022.

Neptune in Pisces and Chiron in Aries

I have offered this segment each month for years to give you a broader perspective on the collective atmosphere, and the long wave changes humanity is going through. Because this section has gotten so large over the years, I’ve decided it deserves its own article, which I’ll update as needed.

In that article I go into detail about the Chiron-Neptune conjunction in late Aquarius, and how each of those planets have been manifesting in Pisces. Now that Chiron is in Aries, we truly are mentoring and being mentored in a much different way than we were when Chiron was in Pisces! Please check out the article to know more.

In this chart, Chiron is stationary retrograde at 9 Aries, It crossed this degree in Spring 2021, and then retrograde in late Summer. Now those themes become a platform for further “healing into our Higher Self.” This gives us a new technique for “seeing whole,” or concentrating on some special emotional or social part of our potential. We now move forward and re-trace the ground between 9-13 Aries, having review its SRX themes of “the stirring up of a new perspective” and “a new identity suddenly revealed.” Just beware of impatience as this new identity will need time to develop and ground itself in its own potency.

We now begin to move solidly into Chiron’s healing and mentoring energies in the second decan of Aries after finishing up 9 and 10 Aries the next few weeks. This will also re-charge the themes of the 2020 Mars/Chiron conjunction at 10 Aries. Neptune continues to take us deeper into Pisces, and now is beginning its long term stay in the last decan, ruled by Scorpio with an added dose of Mars. This is “the end of the end” of the 360 degree “Whole Cycle,” and so encompasses all of the ghosts and unfulfilled mysteries of this past 150 year cycle since it was last here. It also allows us to forgive much of the past and move into a deeper compassion regarding suffering humanity.

Having heard our inner voice, “taken a walk with our wisdom,” and received our promised nourishment “at the end of our day of labor,” we’ve now learned entirely new ways to “touch and be touched,” whether physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually. Since last Summer, we’ve all been awakened to an expanded tactile awareness, giving us more of a kinesthetic experience of learning. This New Moon shows Neptune stationary direct at 21 Pisces, the same degree it went stationary retrograde in the Summer of 2020. This is the degree of learning to touch and be touched, so open to an expanded tactile awareness as you move into the future over the next few months.

The North Node

This is the twentieth and penultimate New Moon with the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius. For many months we’ve been puleed to grow through our quest for knowledge and understanding demonstrating our ethical and spiritual values. The coming 4 weeks indicate the line of greatest development is related to blessing and being blessed, whether as “a hidden benefactor” or receiving gifts from a hidden benefactor. Find your primal innocence, and prepare your symbolic “food and drink,” and then go to sleep if you want to have Santa visit you! We continue to move into new information and perspectives, so open to alternative views, understanding, and new ways of communicating discoveries in the actional-material realms.

Summing Up - The Big Picture

The Capricorn conjunctions of early 2020 continue to condition the long wave cycles unfolding since then as we continue to use those structures to fulfill the emergent Aquarian energies. Jupiter is now finishing up its year in Aquarius, and having opened infinite potentials which will be actualized over the next 20 years, is now ready to enter its home sign of Pisces. What Jupiter has opened in 2021, Saturn will crystallize in 2022 and 2023, with major transfigurations to come in 2023.

As mentioned earlier, Saturn is now moving into its third exact square with Uranus, putting pressure of “right action” wherever we have 9-13 Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. Because of this square, we can use Saturn to release the Uranian potential, bringing positive Leo and Scorpio energies to balance the power of the squares. Because the void created by a square is both the problem and the solution, show heart, strength, nobility, courage, concentration, and the willingness to release to attract. Understanding which Leo and/or Scorpio qualities are needed in conflicts or resistant circumstances will yield good results.

Saturn continues to prod us in a “back to the future mode,” so get your vision, take time to flesh out your plan, and begin estimating your time line to accomplish what you want. We’re in the thick of a long transfiguration process and are now preparing to use “shortcuts to success” in material, emotional, mental, and spiritual realms, accelerating the attainment of whatever individual spiritual understanding we’re seeking. Take a new look at the patterns you’re seeing, since they’re signs of the future.

As I hinted at earlier, this year emergent “mutations born from Cosmos” are now coming forth as a result of our part within the greater group work. We’ve completed a review which accelerated our growth and the growth of our projects. We know who our fellow seekers are, where on the evolutionary ladder we stand, and are able to move between using “soft power” and “hard power” to accomplish our purposes.

We all “graduated into a new realm of Being” in May 2020, and this past year have been through a metamorphosis learning to navigate in a new social or group structure. Our metamorphosis was advanced in vision and action in huge ways in late April and early May 2021, again in early August, with stage three coming in December. Our transformation is taking flight so enjoy the wild ride!

Uranus continues to revolutionize us in our Taurus sector, and having given us ways to “think in the future” while “returning to ancient sources of being,” we now can move forward into a revolutionary new condition of life! Mobilize cheerfully, “balance your mountain of baggage” and embrace your freedom to be yourself. As a result of the 2020 and 2021 Solar Eclipses, we’ve been “lowering one flag and raising a new one,” reorienting toward a more secure, playful, and fun course, as well as letting go of all which could block our happiness. June’s eclipses are removing ideas, mental clutter, and distractions we just don’t need any more.

Summing Up – The Immediate Picture

This New Moon Solar Eclipse takes some of us into a major life renewal and new roles to play, while others will confront karmic returns related to past recklessness. There’s both protection and revelation promised by how we handled past disappointments. With Mars leading the Light, this is a time to be a good “spiritual warrior,” getting out of the way of that within you which is invincible!

This eclipse reinforces major lessons humanity learned beginning in the Spring of 2014 when Saturn went SRX at 24 Scorpio which had to be translated into accurate action beginning in the Summer of 2016 when Mars went SD on that same degree. Then Jupiter went SRX on that degree in the Spring of 2018, opening new doors of transformation based in our response to those stationary periods. This eclipse Mars gives us a new way to allow what inspires us to change our everyday lives to become those spiritual Truths.

The three big square each show opportunity to act in ways to prove our faith in our truth to “pick up and deliver spiritual power,” sharpen our intuitive knowledge of when to act and when to chill, and embrace a new dedication, knowing we’ve made it through the night. If things get tense, don’t take it personally, and don’t get stuck in discontent due to unexpected developments. We’ve now trained, and this one helps us focus our power in unique ways. Those with planets near 11-15 Sagittarius, 23-27 Aquarius, 5-9 Taurus, 17-21 Cancer, and 29 Virgo-3 Libra will find gifts and unique circumstances favoring personal perfection.

This is the end of an old karma and identity, and the beginning of a new adventure in self-expression. Let go of your projections, others’ projections, and see what you need to do your new thing. In the next few weeks we’ll definitely see manifestations of a new global energy unrelated to anything of the past or any local condition or tradition. Simply put, this is the beginning of something we haven’t seen before!

Continue to ride the waves of a gigantic future opening to you wherever you have Aquarius in your chart, welcoming the new, the promise, the protection, and the adventure with an eye to choice rather than instinct. Join in the great releases of energy, and remember enlightenment is a verb, not a noun. Our connection with the World Soul give us the ability to act decisively. This eclipse shuts down parts of our lives which would interfere in expressing our new identity.

Even though the long term conflict between the old and the new continues, take heart, get focused, and continue to eliminate all you no longer need or which would block your happiness. Because of the intense shift to Aquarian energy in the first 5 months of this year which has now returned through the end of the year, stay open to innovative ideas and the momentum pulling you to break away, break free, and break through whatever is blocking the flow. We approach a new cooperative era, and Saturn will “make real” in 2022 and 2023 all which Jupiter promises in 2021.

The Sagittarius and Capricorn emphasis now moves us into a future where we’ll have to deal with a very electric period with power surges and a fair amount of gear grinding due to the squares from Saturn and Uranus. Be inspired, live your truths, laugh as you dance through the fog, and enjoy the unique qualities which will reveal themselves over the next few weeks (and years!)

We’re still becoming more conscious of our interrelatedness within the spiritual field, and on the threshold of a new sensitivity to the generic human condition, being led to the view of self and others as individual sparks within an infinite ocean of Light. We are not separate from any other thing, since all things are Light and therefore we are one with All.

This is the beginning of the beginning of a new 200 year era. The powerful forces being released at times may be chaotic, violent, intractable, and irrational, but there is power in our unified vision of a better future. Stay clear about what your vision is, and let go of all which prevents you from flying free with your Spiritual Brothers and Sisters into a better future. Keep the course steady despite the compressed tensions of this time, and know we’re on our way into the future together!
