The October 2020 Full Moon at 9 Scorpio-Taurus Pt. 1

- Repairing Stress Through Finding Happiness Within -

This stabilizing, intense, revolutionary and extremely rebellious Full Moon giving us the ability to “fulfill an ambition” occurs at 7:49 am PDT, 2:49 pm GMT October 31, and falls at the 9th degree of Scorpio and Taurus. Keep consolidating your gains, move cautiously into the future as it unfolds, care for what you care about, and find a way beyond the stress of the past year.

As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. The New Moon’s theme was developing a new heart strength, mutating as a result of the power of spontaneity coupled with paying karmic dues. This Full Moon is the Light of an intense focus eliminating stagnation expressed in a simpler, gentler light of hope in the midst of dark hours.

Continuing the theme that proceeds at each Full Moon as they move through each polarity, this one is the fourth of a series where the previous New Moon Sun is in a different sign than this Full Moon Sun. We can now take the “light of a new technique of social and/or emotional transformation” since the New Moon, and still being in a season of “saying goodbye quickly,” can see how to make hope substantial through “bringing happiness in dark hours.” Because of serendipitous angles, gifts and unique blessings are in the air.

Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.

An Overview

We’re now moving into the end game of Jupiter and Saturn’s dance with Pluto in late Capricorn. Since the June and July Eclipses, we’ve been in a time when we had to be “alertly ready to act” while not “falling into distress at not knowing what’s ahead” during a long period of changing allegiances and reorienting so we can stabilize something wherever we have 1 Cancer.

Remember that all Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our live. These losses merely clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer, more appropriate life substance can come to us. We’re still clearing out some old ideas, old truths, old habits, and old perspectives during these weeks, so step back from needless insecurity and see the bigger picture. We’re all surrendering to a deeper, vaster way of regarding our life and the Life which is all around us.

This is the twelfth and penultimate Full Moon with Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter is now racing forward, again expanding the late Capricorn energies set into motion in January and March. We now have an ability to use a form of power in ways which bring peace and/or relief after the “whitewater” ride of July through late October. We’re now completing our Capricorn experience as Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are all moving forward. Our Capricorn retrograde period gave us a review of our sense of power and purpose; Capricorn direct gives us the ability to implement that power and purpose.

The good news in this Full Moon is that it makes very favorable aspects to Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn, which blesses the exact Moon conjunct Uranus. This will be a unique disruptive revolutionary pulse released through the Mercury retrograde square Saturn, giving us a chance to reclaim an opportunity thought lost and mobilize to rise to some occasion!

As you know from other articles, this is the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which is priming the pump for the 200 year Air era breaking big this December! Between January and March, we began new Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. We also launched into a year of serious Saturn/Pluto energies, given the January conjunctions setting a new 33 year era into motion. As I said, we transfigured in 2018 and 2019, and now can find wisdom in the ongoing process of transfiguration as a verb rather than a noun.

This is the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.

Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?

There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. We have been in a period when the Full Moon Sun falls in the same sign as the Sun in the previous New Moon. This is the first Full Moon of the next cycle!

We’ve had the Sun in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At August’s Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo. This month, the New Moon Sun was at 24 Libra and this Full Moon Sun is at 9 Scorpio.

The last time we experienced this reverse order began at the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in late Leo and lasted until April 2019, when the Sun was in Aries in the New Moon as well as the subsequent Full Moon. The reversed pattern we just entered will last until August 2021, when the New Moon is at 17 Leo and the Full Moon is at 30 Leo/Aquarius.

Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now are in a sequence with the “Seed Light” of Libra coming to a Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Scorpio and Moon in Taurus. You can learn more about the recent New Moon at 24 Libra by checking out those two articles posted 2 weeks ago.

Planetary Distribution

In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Venus at 5 Libra and the Sun at 9 Scorpio) is 34+ degrees. This month the nearest planet Jupiter is still some distance from that span, but we’ll increasingly feel the closing in of the inners with the outers, narrowing the occupied span until it become another Bundle Jones pattern in January. This month the primary focus is the inner planet span and the next span defined by the 3 planets in Capricorn.

The Capricorn span is 5+ degrees wide, with Jupiter at 21 Capricorn, Pluto at 23 Capricorn and Saturn at 27 Capricorn. We’re now done with the T-squares from Mercury and the Sun with Mars and the Capricorn planets, and preparing for a final T-square when Venus makes its squares in November, putting a punctuation point of a serious season of conflicting energies affecting all of us in the late Cardinal sectors of our charts!

We now endured many months resulting from the short and long wave cycles set into motion by Great Compression conjunctions in Capricorn in January and March 2020. As I mentioned, with the inner planets closing in on the Capricorn stellium, we’re again approaching Great Compression in early 2021, this one in Aquarius.

We had two Great Compressions in Capricorn; one in February 2019, and one which hit maximum compression in March 2020. These brought us “Bundle” Jones patterns, with everything bundled in a very narrow span this year, creating a crowded house wherever we have Capricorn through Taurus. The Bundle pattern will again predominate between January and mid-March 2021.

Because of the occupied spans, it means the Moon is the primary determiner of the Jones Pattern, since it creates several different energy patterns along the way as the closing planet, nozzle, and opening planet for the rest of the planetary energies. This is the last Full Moon where it’s inside the outer planet occupied zone, since next month it’ll be in Gemini, outside the Capricorn to Taurus span.

At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 6 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn in late Capricorn, then moves through Neptune in Pisces, Mars in Aries, and Uranus in early Taurus, with the inner planets now occupying Libra and Scorpio. In this chart Jupiter is again the entry planet to the occupied span.

As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Taurus, and two close oppositions and two other very wide oppositions, we continue to be in a SeeSaw Jones pattern.

So What is a “Seesaw Pattern” and how does it work?

This type of spread, with two or more planets on one side of the map and the others on the other side of the map, with at least one or two oppositions to define the axis of awareness, creates a “Seesaw” Jones Pattern. Where a Seesaw pattern is present, stay focused and balanced at the center while taking note of the periphery of things, and don't get off on a tangent or limb.

This pattern shows a need to be able to see both sides of any given thing, especially where there are opposing trends or views. The strength is in an ability to triangulate to angles of approach beyond the polarity that allows for progress and understanding.

As Marc Jones put it, “it reveals a less-sharpened but much more definite balancing of life emphases at opposing or contrasting points in experience. It is a persistent move to a balance which is apt to give a characteristic rhythm… The indication is not so much an uncertainly of action, or reaction, as a tendency to act at all times under a consideration of opposing views or through a sensitiveness to contrasting and antagonistic possibilities.”

He continues “the Seesaw temperament has its existence in a world of conflicts, of definite polarities. It is capable of unique achievement, through a development of unsuspected relations in life, but it is also apt to waste its energies through its improper alignment with various situations.”

He states that the ideal will show oppositions around the middle of the opposing “planetary aggregates” (clusters) and that axis will be the “focal determinator.” But, “if no such emphasis is present, the life tends to be significant at the side of the greater number of planets, or sometimes where they are concentrated most closely.”

The most powerful axis of oppositions is in Taurus and Scorpio with the Moon and Uranus both exactly opposed the Sun. The wide oppositions of Mercury and Venus to Mars represent a less focused but still active polarity involving Aries and Libra., especially since the midpoint of Mercury and Venus is exactly opposed Mars. These two “tensions of opposites” will be the focus of the Seesaw tendencies. Wherever we have these two axes will be the source of tension and greater awareness.

Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?

Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I’ll be updating it soon.

For many weeks, we have been revisiting the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) as both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, and in this chart Saturn is again forming a biseptile with the Moon and Uranus while both of these are still in orb of a septile to Neptune. This makes for three active points in a 7-pointed Star of Destiny, with the coming Venus biseptile to Pluto and Saturn triggering it around Election Day.

This is yet another time of choice and change, with decisions being made which will affect the near and distant future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn has been and continues to occupy its stay in its home sign of Capricorn, it is the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. That makes it a dominant force through April 2022. And because Jupiter is in Capricorn, Saturn has also been center stage during the transits of Sagittarius and Pisces. That means Saturn will loom large over personal and global events each Winter for a while!

Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “current of destiny” is in front of us, based in how we have prepared for our “role of destiny” heading at us like an express train! In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we need in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.

I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Couple with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.

The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.

Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.

On A Final Note

See you in the near future with parts two and three on this focused, regenerative, revolutionary, and “whole hearted” Full Moon which should help us preserve what’s worth preserving. We’re now past the nonstop conflicts between July and October, and moving into a transitional period of learning how to repair damage from stress, repair feelings which have become the source of discontent, and learn how “to bring happiness in dark hours.” The destiny of the future is being set by this Full Moon, and any rebellious tendencies which pop up are the first of many such episodes.

We’re officially done with the major storm of the past 4 months, but still must play it safe and protect what needs protecting. The coming 2 weeks shows us conflicts to come in January, so prepare accordingly while detaching from stress. Because Mercury is still retrograde in Libra, find new perspectives beyond the dualities of life creating imbalance and conflict, and find a higher stabilized peace within.

There may be many mixed signals and cross currents due to the Mercury square Saturn, so focus on cultivating your spiritual rapport with others, find a balanced view, let go of pessimism or interpreting things too narrowly, and take a new look at your Libra response to find a new equilibrium. We again begin climbing our “spiritual mountain” with our companions these next two weeks, so trust your truth, show your truth, live your truth, and proof your truth by your willingness to act on it.

The Sun lights the focused intensity of Scorpio, and shines a direct light on Uranus, showing something in Taurus has to give way while other things must surface. Because of the harsh conditions associated with the Capricorn predominance of this year, we can find joy and power in our purity of heart and how we choose to give ourselves to a larger work.

The Scorpio sextiles and quintiles to the Capricorn planets will help us productively reorganize and/or regenerate something related to the systems and structures we’ve been building all year. The new roles and responsibilities we’ve taken on will lead to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn have led us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, indicates our work for a long time to come.

Since the Summer of 2019, we’ve all been “tearing ourselves away from the known and familiar, gambling all on a great dream.” However, the same revolutionary pulse is showing as some people reacting in confrontational ways, indicating we’ve entered a period of polarization and tension between the old and the new. Continue to be alert to the old masquerading as the new, and beware of people being oppositional-defiant for no good reason.

We all continue to journey into the unknown since the Solar Eclipse is removing all which is contrary to what we care about and are here to nurture in the future, and the recent Full Moon Eclipse in Cancer offered “the Light of Sirius,” the Sun of our Sun, illuminating a path to transfiguration through giving us a vaster perspective in time. The past several months have challenged us all to let go of fear, egocentricity, and feelings of fatigue or inadequacy. We are still finding healing through seeing images of our past in a different light as symbols of a new social-emotional expression while learning to concentrate to see the whole picture.

We’ve been offered many higher, more diplomatic and dignified ways of interacting with others these past few months, with this shift opening doors to even more evolved relationships. This Mercury retrograde period is giving us a look back to see how we’ve “raised our game” in our interactions, preparing us for using power in alternating ways once Mercury goes stationary direct on November 3.

As we approach the Grand Mutation of 2020, the next 2 weeks should give us some relief and an ability to repair whatever has gotten stressed because of recent conflicts. We now resume our spiritual journey at a fork in the road of our collective destiny, so remember your connection with the World Soul, your Wisdom, and your greater dedication. Stay balanced and show a lot of gratitude for the gifts and friends you have, as well as any sense of vaster spiritual awareness you share with your Brothers and Sisters.

Because of where the retrograde Mars in Aries is, withdraw from conflict with great dignity while maintaining a balanced, just, caring, protective, nurturing and fair perspective on things. We’ve been learning how to put on the brakes from time to time to restore order and harmony to the realm, and slowing down for awhile to re-engineer the process to get a new perspective on our real purpose for doing what we do.

We’ve stabilized the Capricorn promise of 2018 and 2019 as changes accelerate the coming conflict which precedes the coming 20 year Aquarian sub-era which will change us and our world for decades to come! Maintain your self-discipline, be patient with the process, let go of nonessentials, and go inward or exercise power, depending on your circumstance.

I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
