The Weekly Sage; September 16, 2017

weekly sage

Welcome to the fourth edition of our new Weekly Sage, an outward and inward look at the week to come. So many of us use Tarot, astrology, and contemplative journaling to support ourselves and each other. We hope this little weekly blog will inspire all of us to think, feel, and transform in bigger ways together. May it unite us by collectively magnifying our personal intentions into a potent resource of positive energy, that will spread into our communities and beyond.

Astrology – Truest Acts of Service

the weekly sage astrology truest acts of service

On September 19th, at 10:29 pm Pacific Time, we’ll experience a New Moon in Virgo. New Moon is the perfect time for setting new intentions. Metaphorically, when the Moon is dim, our inner light shines brightest. With the New Moon in Virgo, we are supported in initiating new plans, projects and intentions regarding health and healing, process improvement, analysis, and organization. Virgo is the archetype of service – what it means to truly be of service to self and others. It’s time to pay attention to the details of our own goals and desires, and set our intentions accordingly.

The new moon is so important to my practice, so central to my own process of manifestation, that beginning last month I decided to hold monthly free, live rituals for the new moon just like I do for the full moon each month! Same format, but with a focus on setting intentions and anchoring space for new beginnings. If you would like to join our FREE New Moon ritual, RSVP on our online and in-person event pages! I would *love* to see you there.

Beyond the new moon, we have other interesting planetary activity to consider. Venus also enters Virgo on the 19th, after being wrapped up in Leo. Venus in Leo can bring out the honeymoon aspect of relationships – being adored and spoiled is one hallmark of this period. However, when Venus moves into Virgo, we are encouraged to think with a more practical approach. Our perceived needs for perfection and measured control of the environment may surface in our behavior. Even though self-improvement is paramount during this time, don’t fall victim to your own critical tendencies, as Virgo loves to scrutinize every detail. Use healthy discrimination, determining when to let go. Your doubts have more to do with your own self-consciousness than they do with your relationships. Harness the power of Virgo to filter out anything that is not useful, especially your own habits and thought patterns.

On Friday (September 22), we (in the Northern Hemisphere) turn the Great Wheel of time toward the next season, fall, on what is known in pagan circles as Mabon and in most traditions as the Autumnal Equinox. I’m holding free live ritual (online and in person) to celebrate this high holiday and hope you can join me (RSVP here for our online and in-person event pages). Why is the equinox so important? In Latin, equinox means “equal night” and it is one of two days each year when nature strikes her own equilibrium, a delicate balance of light and darkness that each of us echoes and mirrors back in our actions, our rituals, our emotions, our energies. Marking the first day of fall, the Sun will move into the sign of Libra. Libra energy inspires us to seek relationships, harmony, balance, beauty, compromise, and cooperation. Your life should be a divine alchemy of light and shadow, times of bliss and joy, balanced by times of challenge and struggle. One urges you to appreciate the other, doesn’t it? We know joy by its opposite, sorrow; we understand ease by comparing to moments of discord and strife. All of life, all of nature, is a grand mirror for you to gaze into and see places where you need to grow and develop.

Weekly Tarot Card

the sun tarot card blog post

The Sun card comes forward today, for all of us, representing our inner light radiating for the world to feel and see. Just as the Sun in our sky rises and illuminates the world with love and warmth, this card also shines with the excitement of new beginnings. The Sun card represents potent expressive creative energy, and reconnects us with the power and joy of co-creation. And just like that image you have in your head whenever you think of the Sun, this card reminds you to enjoy the moment today, and in the upcoming week. It reminds us to be happy with ourselves, and to be thankful, because when we shine on the inside, it is reflective in our eyes, our face, and our energy. This is especially pertinent as we enter fall season and head into the darker months of 2017. When the Sun card appears in a reading, it assures us we are on the right track. Face that shadow, and hold onto that light! Doing so will ensure success in ways you can’t imagine.

Weekly Journal – The Cycle of Gratitude and Abundance

journal image 9 16

It’s necessary to meditate on, and manifest our desires, so that we may get to know ourselves and learn to ask for things we want. However, it’s equally important to be grateful for all you have, so you may continue to receive abundance. It shows the Universe you’re humble and ready to receive more blessings. It is VITAL in manifesting. And the best part? It just makes you feel good and so much happier, because being grateful is also showing the Universe you love yourself. And loving yourself gets you that much closer to understanding and connecting with your Highest Self. If you have grown strong crops this year – literally or spiritually – it’s likely because you had help, on many levels. Now is when we stop, reflect, and bow in gratitude for all those who walk with us. What are you grateful for? How often do you practice gratefulness? What area of your life could use more gratitude?
