The Weekly Sage; September 30, 2017

Welcome to the latest edition of our new Weekly Sage, an outward and inward look at the week to come. So many of us use Tarot, astrology, and contemplative journaling to support ourselves and each other. We hope this little weekly blog will inspire all of us to think, feel, and transform in bigger ways together. May it unite us by collectively magnifying our personal intentions into a potent resource of positive energy, that will spread into our communities and beyond.
Today marks Dussehra – also known as Vijayadashami – the Hindu festival where devotees honor and invoke Mother Earth, for blessings of harvest and peace. Many legends are associated with this festival, including the story of Lord Rama conquering Ravana (the ten headed demon king of Lanka) after a 10 day battle to save his wife, Sita, who had been abducted by Ravana. The victory, of good versus evil, is celebrated and symbolic of our own inner path of discernable righteousness. Throughout the world, and to Gaia, we continue to send love and light, offering support in all the ways we can, trusting good will always prevail.
Astrology – With Love, Libra
Mercury moved from Virgo into Libra yesterday, reflecting the opportunity for more grace and ease in communication. Mercury represents how we reason, translate, and make sense of things. In contrast with Virgo, whose energy can be overly analytical, Libra favors beauty and symmetry in communication, which means we are better able to carry out exchanges with balance and harmony. If you need to speak up, or make peace with others, there is natural Libran energy supporting you. If you’re stuck in a pattern that keeps you from furthering relationships by critically overanalyzing them, now is the time to communicate in a harmonious and collaborative way. Libran energy supports us in using our minds and relationships to bring about better balance. It encourages us to reason and solve problems in partnership, using diplomatic words and gestures to show we truly appreciate the other person, so both sides feel represented. From an alternative perspective, Mercury in Libra may manifest as a strong desire to socialize. We may become a little too gregarious, putting a great deal of focus on relationships, while neglecting other responsibilities. Sometimes, the Libran tendency to endlessly debate and discuss, keeps things up in the air, delaying necessary action. Libra is often represented by the balanced scales, which is not an entirely accurate depiction. Libra is learning balance, and often by swinging to the extremes, before finding the sweet spot.
On October 5th, we will experience the Full Hunter’s Moon. It will rise just after sunset, Pacific Time, creating the only night of the month when the moon is in the sky throughout the entire night. I anticipate the energy of this full moon with excitement, because it represents a great light in the darkness that we can harness for our own personal transformative work. This Hunter’s Moon will be in the sign of the Warrior, Aries. Luna is known for mothering and nurturing, and also for her fierce protection of family and those with whom she is bonded. Hand her the sword of the champion and watch out! Aries displays and encourages independence, action, exploration, initiative, physical strength, spontaneity, and leadership. Aries, the sign of the mantra “I am”, is the embodiment of individualism.
At the full moon, we receive the manifestation of our intentions and celebrate progress toward our goals. It’s a time for completion and fruition of the intentions you set forth at the start of the moon cycle. In the sign of Aries, we have the opportunity to see more of ourselves in Luna’s mirror.
If you would like to join our FREE Full Moon ritual, RSVP on our online and in-person event pages. I would LOVE to see you there!
Weekly Tarot Card
The Hanged Man Tarot card comes forward today, for all of us, representing suspension. The Hanged Man displays the story of Odin, hanging from The World Tree, sacrificing himself to gain the wisdom of the world. Odin was wounded and starved, but on the 9th day, he released himself from the tree, and fell on the mysterious runes that had appeared. Odin collected them for himself, and captured the hidden, ancient knowledge of the world. The Hanged Man in a Tarot reading encourages us to see things from an entirely new perspective, allowing our floor to become the ceiling, and to surrender enough to slip out of the awkward binds and into a new reality.
Notice the hanged man depicted on the card – his face is serene, and his legs form the number four. In numerologythe number four resonates with the world, knowledge, mastery, passion, and discipline. When The Hanged Man comes forward, it guides us into deeper reflection – which is what this Mabon season is about. Before Samhain arrives, and the Veil gets thinner, it is vital we go inward to confront our Shadow, no matter how difficult it is to face, acknowledge, accept, or integrate. It is time to willingly sacrifice what isn’t working, and liberate ourselves, to achieve a greater purpose and vision.
Weekly Journal – Whispers of the Dark Forest
Autumn is here and with it we welcome the time of darkness, final harvest, and ancestral connection. It is the perfect time to dive into shadow work and revel in your greatest mysteries. Have you gone down into that dark forest already? Perhaps it is time to return again, for something new. Even in late September, we hear the leaves rustle on the trees, and the whispers of the ancients waking us up in the middle of the night because they wait ALL year for this. They are more excited this year than ever, let me tell you. Chomping at the bit. And we, we are ready. Earlier than ever. Here we go. I invite you to heed the messages from your guides in meditation, and offer them a part of yourself in return. Who comes forward for you? Where are you? Did you have expectations for the messages you received? How were your expectations different from what you experienced?
