Welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Sage, an outward and inward look at the week to come. So many of us use Tarot, astrology, and contemplative journaling to support ourselves and each other. We hope this little weekly blog will inspire all of us to think, feel, and transform in bigger ways together. May it unite us by collectively magnifying our personal intentions into a potent resource of positive energy, that will spread into our communities and beyond.

With Imbolc on February 1st, we passed the midway point between Winter and Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Hope shines and stirs within, as the days begin to grow longer and barren trees stir with new life. As flower buds wait to blossom their radiance, we too prepare to birth our projects into the world. We nourish our dreams and burn what no longer serves us. There will be no full moon in February,  leaving our inner light to shine forth and guide us, illuminating the way from the inside-out.

Astrology – Sabbatical

The Universe has decided to give us a break, due to the dense astrological traffic of past weeks. We just experienced the blue super blood moon – the second full moon of January. February will have no full moon, which is an outward sign pointing us in the direction of our internal light. Remember to honor, access, and utilize your own inner lantern of wisdom and guidance. Just like the Hermit of the Tarot, you hold the Star of Hope; your inner compass; your true north. This is the perfect time to become suspended in your own thoughts. Rest, reflect, and reawaken.

Weekly Tarot – Knight/Prince of Pentacles

Starting this week, we will transition into the Court Cards of the Tarot! Each suit of the Tarot deck represents an element: Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. The Court Cards can represent someone in your life, who you are or need to be, or circumstances that surround you. The Knight/Prince of Pentacles comes forward today, representing steady determination. Pentacles are the suit of Earth and the material realm, and the Prince is all about action. The Prince of Pentacles is successful, but slow and steady in his pace. He is fierce, but subdued. Determined, yet patient. When the Prince of Pentacles comes forward, he advises us to be gentle with our progress, but to keep working diligently toward our passions. We are advised to enjoy the sensual and earthy aspects of our existence. The Prince of Pentacles is a fine craftsman who knows how to be of service in very tangible ways. Associated with Virgo, he represents the vessel that spirit lives within; the human embodiment of the Divine.

AroMagic Oil of the Week – Frankincense

Frankincense is an important archetypal soul scent of the Western sun-gods of the Sumerians, Babylonians, Persians, Egyptians, Hebrews and Greeks, and right up to modern Judaic and Christian societies. Frankincense operates by inducing focused contemplation, which is necessary for aspiration to the divine, to the spirit. The scent of this resin encourages spiritual travelers to drop out of their minds and egoistic limitations, and move into presence with their spirit or center of consciousness. Using this holy, ancient oil promotes feelings of satisfaction, peace and deep, internal relaxation. As a cosmetic, frankincense oil will calm topical irritation, tighten and firm sagging skin, all while minimizing the appearance of scars, dark marks and age spots.

Humans are creatures of habit, and with the rapidness of information at our fingertips every second of the day, we have acclimated to instant gratification. While technological advances are beneficial to our growth, they can also be detrimental. Instant gratification leaves no room for natural progress or patience. Studies have shown that people now lose interest in articles longer than 500 words. This is where the acronym TL;DR was born, for  “too long; didn’t read.” Using this buffer, writers provide a short summary of their story in addition to their article, at the foot of their page. If our source of entertainment and news is being altered to feed our short attention spans, how can we expect to become patient with our own journey? Does this mean that we give up at the slightest inconveniences? Because we don’t see results right away? It’s essential that we nurture our spiritual, emotional, and physical self with patience and love. Wait. Work hard. Keep going. Start by reading a book; watching a movie without your phone in your hand; meditating for an hour without distraction; staying away from Facebook or Instagram while you’re working. Taking small steps leads to bigger ones. Do you get discouraged easily? Do you quit too soon?
