In the final part of this series on music William LePar's spiritual source, The Council addresses modern music and again reminds us about falling asleep while listening.

Questioner:  You are not condemning all music of our generation, are you?

The Council:  Well, it has probably been an awful long time since anything worth listening to has been given to the public other than the area of classical music.  The very earliest rock and roll, and we are talking about the very earliest rock and roll, would be acceptable in a pinch, let us put it that way.  If you had to listen to something other than classical or spiritual music or uplifting music and you had to listen to the more popular noise, then the very earliest rock and roll would be as far as we could go.

Questioner:  How about some of the music played on the easy listening music stations, such as (***), music from musicals?

The Council:  It depends on the lyrics and what they have to say, what is the overall message, and whether the melody or the theme has a tendency to cause you to become drowsy or put you in a state other than consciousness.  You must be careful with such things.  There is nothing wrong with a love ballad that talks about a clean,  innocent, wholesome love.  There are other pieces of music that would be acceptable, but you must be discriminate.  Does that answer your question?

Questioner:  Yes, thank you.

The Council:  You would almost have to take each individual piece of music and judge it on what it has to offer itself.  We make a blanket statement to make it more impressive as far as the danger goes, to get you to think a little more.  Hopefully, you will pay attention to what you are listening to, instead of just leaving your mind open and like a sponge soaking all that, whatever you wish to call it, in.  Then once it is in you must deal with it according to your desires.  It is extremely dangerous and this happens to many, many individuals to take a nap or fall asleep with a radio on or a television, because once you begin to fall asleep then all that information that you are hearing is being pumped into you, whether you are aware of it or not, and you must deal with it then.
