The Council: Fate Is the Hand Dealt; Destiny Is the Choice Made
Written by William LePar - David Reis Views: 8067

The following quote is from a book that William LePar and David Ries wrote many years ago. Recently, some of the text in the book was submitted to AI to see how it would rewrite the sentence structure.
Quotes from William LePar or spiritual source, The Council, were not changed in any way. What was interesting to us was that in almost all instances, AI returned about the same number of words. It may have rearranged some sentences and substituted a word that was perhaps more accurate, but left the paragraph essentially unchanged. With the following quote, AI felt that additional wording should be added. Those are in italics.
Mr. LePar offers some powerful thoughts to begin this section:
“I don’t care what conditions you were born into. I don’t care whether you were born into abject poverty or an abundance of wealth. I don’t care if you were born into a condition where there was great sadness in your family or great joy. It’s immaterial in the final analysis because at the point of birth that was the hand that was dealt to you. The beauty of life is that we have free will and with that free will we can change anything. Fate is what you came in with, but you make your destiny. You are not condemned to those conditions that you were born into. You have the free will choice, and with that choice, right thinking and positive action, you can create whatever destiny you want. Remember, after all is said and done, you are a god in the small, and you have a great deal of control over your destiny by the choices you make. If you want happiness, genuine happiness not temporary happiness, if you want spirituality, you make the choices now so that your destiny is what you desire.”
This message beautifully reinforces the central theme of this chapter: that while we enter life with certain conditions—our “fate”—we are never bound by them. Free will is the great gift that allows us to shape our destiny. No matter the circumstances of our birth, no matter the challenges we inherit, we retain the power to choose our direction. Through right thinking and positive action, we can transform our lives into expressions of joy, purpose, and spiritual growth.
LePar’s reminder that we are “gods in the small” underscores the divine potential within each of us. Our choices are not insignificant; they are the very tools by which we sculpt our destiny. When we choose love, compassion, and spiritual intention, we align ourselves with the destiny our soul truly desires.
The essence of these next two sentences contains everything in a neat, complete package. It can be expressed this way:
“Those of you who quest for spirituality and happiness must understand what real spirituality and happiness are. It is not the act of kindness or loving or caring, but it is the thought that instigated the act.”
If thoughts are sincere—if they truly arise from the heart—they naturally become action. They become doing, and eventually, they become reality.
This section focuses on those who are not born into the best of circumstances.
Here we encounter a vital truth about physical life:
every soul, no matter how difficult the situation, will receive at least one opportunity to turn its life in a more spiritual direction. Throughout a lifetime, countless events—both significant and seemingly insignificant—unfold. According to The Council, among these events, there will always be one pivotal occurrence that offers the soul a clear opportunity to step onto the path that fulfills its life plan.
This defining moment can take many forms: an encounter with another person, an illness followed by recovery, a new job, or any number of circumstances that might appear ordinary at first glance. What seems trivial in the moment may later reveal itself as the turning point of an entire lifetime.
