Grandmothers, I asked, "Why do men treat women so badly?  Every day there's another piece of news about the abuse of women.  It's awful.  It's so hard.

The Grandmothers looked at me with compassion and said, "This is true all over the world.  And it's caused by the same thing.  Men are trapped," they said, "in a locked down position, stuck in a way of being that's bad for them and bad for others."

When they spoke the words, 'locked down position,' I saw men milling about in what appeared to be a stockade, their heads thrust forward, looking down.  "They can't get their heads up to see to see the horizon and how infinite life is," the Grandmothers explained.  "They're living in a small, small space.  That's the entirety of their life and because the area they move in is so tiny, they don't feel expanded or like they have 'enough' of anything.  Their world is cramped.  And unfortunately, because of the history of patriarchy, many women also see only a limited horizon.

"When your world is so fixed, you try to hold onto everything.  Because you fear there isn't enough, you don't want to lose what little you think you have.  It's this small view of life more than anything else that dictates the way men treat women -- as possessions, second-class citizens, chattel.  Because men don't realize how enormously rich life is, they contract, squeezing themselves and everyone else small.  They're cut off from their natural greatness, their intrinsic divinity. Masses of men today are devoid of spirituality, and this causes them to contract around whatever's in their grasp, holding on tight and tighter still.

"They are ignorant," the Grandmothers said, "innocently ignorant.  Some women have also become ignorant, but the role of life-giver helps insulate woman from this small view.  Those who create life know there is 'more' to life than what is visible, so women do not as easily collapse into the mean spiritedness that often infects men.

"Have pity on men," they said.  "Men are locked in a small world and can't see their way out.  They are blind and lost and in their ignorance, they treat you badly.  But when at last they are able to see beyond their tiny view of life, their cruelty and mean spiritedness will stop.

"You have a role to play in this evolving drama.  We are calling you now to take the big view, the long view, the true view.  Never doubt your own greatness," the Grandmothers said, locking eyes with me.  "Never doubt your divinity.  At all times stay connected with us and with the Net of Light.  In spite of the present darkness on the Earth, light IS dawning.  Your continuous connection to the Divine is helping bring on the dawn.  So stay with us.  Stay the course."
