Why Letting Your Muscles Recover After A Workout Actually Helps You Get Stronger Faster
Written by Lauren Perry Views: 189203

If you have started working out and want to get stronger and fitter, do not only focus on planning fitness routines, eating protein, and lifting weights.
You should also focus on resting and letting your muscles recover, as that is one of the most important and key aspects of working out.
Recovery Is When Growth Happens
When you exercise, you are forcing your muscles to work harder, and when that happens, your muscles get micro-tears, so when you rest and recover, your body then the muscles repair those tissues, and now they are bigger and stronger. However, if you do not allow your body to rest, then your muscles will not get the time to repair themselves. Those micro-tears may end up getting worse, turning into an injury, and risking your health, as if your muscles are injured. Then you can't train or work out, which hampers your progress.
Reduces Risk of Overtraining
When you start exercising, you need to follow a good training plan in which you increase your exercise load over time. Resting does not only come after you have completed the workout fully, but also in between sets. With a good trainer, you can ensure that you get the right amount of exercise and also the right amount of rest in between your exercises and sets. Different trainers have different strategies on how you should be getting rest, and you should follow one that suits your body the best. You should also make schedules so that your muscles get time to recover. For example, you can set aside one day of the week for leg and core exercises, and set aside another for chest and arms.
Boosts Performance in Your Next Session
Recovery helps you improve your performance in the next sessions, too, as your body will feel stronger. You can also take some muscle recovery supplements to help you recover better, as they can help you improve the strength in your muscles and help your muscles recover by reducing the amount of inflammation in your muscles.
Nutrition and Recovery Go Hand in Hand
Letting your muscles rest is not the only thing that you need to do to ensure that your muscles recover fast. You also need to provide your muscles with the right kind of nutrition and give your muscles the right raw materials that they can use to repair the damage caused to your muscle fibers. And that is why you should have a protein-rich meal before or after you are done working out.
Sleep Is Your Secret Weapon
If you are exercising, you also need to sleep more as your body is getting more tired and requires longer periods of rest. So, on the days that you exercise, also try to get more rest, and on average, you should get 10 or more hours of sleep when you exercise. If you do not get enough sleep, your body will be tired and weak and will not be able to produce the hormones that your muscles need to promote recovery.
Conclusion
The longer that you work out, and the higher the difficulty levels, the more time that you will have to give to recovery and getting rest. Usually, your body will be able to recover after 24 hours, but when you do a workout of high intensity and longer duration and of greater volume, then you may need to spend longer hours trying to recover.
