Libra and Aries Driven by Capricorn -

Welcome to a wild ride! As we move into the next season of the year, we confront the first of several T-squares challenging our ability to stay balanced while natural and unnatural forces seek to escalate conflict. Shields up!

Over the next 90 hours Mercury will square Saturn and oppose Mars, followed by the Moon in Capricorn conjunct the stellium and squaring Mercury and Mars. This week is maximum conflict, and heralds larger battles to come! Remember that there are times to play offense, and times to play defense. This is a time to play it safe. When in doubt, be conservative while adapting to the need of the moment. Let’s unpack what’s going on:

The Larger Capricorn Cycles

The larger Capricorn span of cycles set into motion in January and March which will dominate the next 11 to 33 years have now hit the friction of the “first emergence” marked by the waxing square from Mars in Aries. How do we implement the new beginnings marked by the conjunctions during the Great Compression of March?

We hit the first set of challenges with the first set of squares from Mars in Aries in August. That showed us what had to be changed, what resisted the new cyclic expression, or how to implement the new structures we’re building this year. Then Mars went retrograde. Now it returns to a) renew those fights; b) undo the results of old decisions and actions; or c) wreck everything because it cannot “win” whatever conflict was set into motion in July and intensified in August.

This tension between late Aries and late Capricorn in our charts won’t be done until November at earliest. Mars is “frustrated in expression” due to the retrograde, but now in a second challenging phase relative to the Capricorn energy. This square anchors the general conflict of our time.

Why Is This Time So Difficult?

In July, we had squares from Cancer to Aries, and then oppositions from Cancer to the Capricorn planets. That gave us the first signs of the current hurricane force winds (Mercury in the Air sign of Libra square Jupiter!). Mercury makes the waning squares to the Capricorn planets now, indicating the Divine Messenger is giving us signs and signals about the fulfillment of the year cycle relative to those Cap long wave energies.

The Sun will make the waning squares in October, and Venus will make them in November. As these fulfillment squares roll out, at the same time those Libra transits are opposed the frustrated Mars. This “tension of opposites” across the Aries-Libra axis challenges us to stay balanced and keep it all in perspective while being aware of the fulfillment (waning square) of the old structure or rule (Capricorn).

T-squares help us get integrated using the Mode (Guna in Sanskrit) of the square. This Cardinal T-square deals with Rajasic energies which are in dynamic relationship to each other. These are activating energies, unlike the Fixed (Tamasic) or Mutable (Sattvic) energies in our existence. So we’re learning to deal with self-initiating energies which are neither stable nor particularly flexible. How do we navigate this?

How To View The Problem and Solution

The problem and solution to any T-square is shown by the void, in this case the last decan of Cancer. If you’re dealing with moody or crabby people, or entrenched self-serving interests, be sure you have your shields up while being aware of their motive to deceive. Sometimes the best course of action is to do nothing except sit at home and take care of ourselves.

As Cancer is family, these squares can reveal how people were raised in childhood, as early patterns prevail with this sign. It’s why the past is so important and family issues are paramount. It is good for examining habits of acting, feeling, and thinking, as well as any assumptions we may have made. Remember, it’s not a good thing to make assumptions, so take a new look and see who and what fits where in your spiritual “family system.”

Mercury heralds the Solar T-square to come in October. That will be the focus of maximum intensity, since it begins a couple of days before the Mars square Pluto on October 9 which is in full force for at least a week after. It is amplified by Sun square Jupiter on the 11th, Sun opposed Mars on the 13th, Sun square Pluto on the 15th, culminating in Sun square Saturn and Mars square Jupiter on the 18th, with echoes for several days after.

That means October 6 through 22 is going to be one wild ride, and we’re getting the first sense of it right now! As we know, “as above so below,” indicating that through the signs and signals of the conflicts on Earth, we can see the pattern in the heavens. Still, the squares will pass into new squares with different requirements. But that’s for 2021. It’s enough to get through this particular set of squares right now!.

By seeing the forces in conflict (destabilization, heavy handed use of power, oppressive rules and systems, unjust actions, ego self-interest, and more) we can know to stay balanced, keep a sense of perspective about the big picture, see what is coming to an end, guard what has been accomplished before the retrograde, and find safe harbor while the storm rages.

I’ll offer that one antidote to the current conflict is gratitude. Gratitude for the gifts we’ve been given and are giving. Gratitude for all that protects us and our loved ones. Gratitude for an ever-unfolding better future if we welcome it. Gratitude for our Spiritual Sisters and Brothers, who remind us that we are all one Life together, forever immersed in a universe of Loving Light.
