The Retroshade is real.

We’re at a crossroads of sorts. As Mars in Aries enters the pre-Retrograde shade today, in preparation for September’s Retrograde station — which I’ll be writing about in a few days — , Mercury leaves the post-Retrograde shadow tomorrow, Sunday July 26.

While a greater clarity around met and unmet needs floats to the surface,  a vague, yet persistent awareness of what we’re meant to do, of the next steps we should take to affirm our own sovereignty and tackle the issues that we’ve finally come to acknowledge, might be taking shape. I know this is how I feel right now. And yet, it might be also hitting us — as urgent as change might feel at the moment, this kind of radical, life affirming change takes time. It’s too soon. How soon is now?, asks Mars in Aries, preparing to run into a square to the cluster of Capricorn planets. Too soon, perhaps. But the time will come.

Tomorrow, Sunday July 26, call for emotional self-regulation as the Libra Moon bumps into a square to Cancer Mercury first, opposes Mars and Chiron in Aries later, and eventually,between Sunday night and Monday, July 27, finds herself helpless in the grip of Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn. If you’re currently experiencing tension in your relationships, you might want to keep the Four Horsemen of the (Relationship) Apocalypse in check (Criticism, Defensiveness, Contempt and Stonewalling), and work on expressing your needs in ways that are cathartic without provoking consequences you or your partner(s) might not be prepared or equipped to deal with.

Speaking of Monday, it’s going to be the most intense day of the whole week, vaguely confusing and hopeful at the same time: the Moon will enter Scorpio, Mercury in Cancer will square Mars in Aries, Venus in Gemini will square Neptune in Pisces (again), and the latter will perfect its sextile to Jupiter in Capricorn. We’re not new to the energy of the Venus/Neptune square: this is the third and last of three squares, the previous ones having occurred on May 3 and May 20, around the time Venus was stationing Retrograde in Gemini. The grace we have been longing for might eventually show up in unexpected places, and point us towards unexpected detours in our trajectory, but we might have to work through significant mental and verbal tension before we get there.

The same energy will reverberate throughout Tuesday, July 28, with the Scorpio Moon forming an electric, supercharged opposition Uranus in Taurus and then moving on to welcome an infusion of clemency and forgiveness.

On Wednesday, July 29, the Moon in Scorpio will form a sextile to Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn, empowering us to work strategically with commitments and limitations, a moment before she slips into Sagittarius, lifting our spirits and our hopes.

Then, on Thursday, July 30, Mercury in Cancer opposes Jupiter in Capricorn and Venus in Gemini forms a quincunx to Pluto. Eagerness to articulate visions and principles into words might clash against an intrinsic unawareness of the social and affective dynamics we are truly engaging with, and our role in them. This calls for a heightened vigilance and self-awareness, especially because on the next day, Friday, July 31, the Moon crosses into Capricorn, favouring a mood that dwells on consequences, drawbacks and boundaries.

The card I have picked for you for this upcoming week is the Two of Swords, reversed.

This feels like an invitation to accept that the blinders are falling off — that we have it. The whole picture. The awareness of what has to be done. That from this point on, genuine ignorance might actually shapeshift into avoidance if we give in to fear. We’re no longer stuck in that place. Wherever it is. We can start by taking a look around, trusting that the right path will appear. In due time.
