The Weekly Sage - Edition 18
Welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Sage, an outward and inward look at the week to come. So many of us use Tarot, astrology, and contemplative journaling to support ourselves and each other. We hope this little weekly blog will inspire all of us to think, feel, and transform in bigger ways together. May it unite us by collectively magnifying our personal intentions into a potent resource of positive energy, that will spread into our communities and beyond.
During Yule, we found ourselves in the depths of the darkness that daunted us most at Samhain. Within this darkness, our deepest purpose was revealed to us. This is because we always find our True Path without a compass. We engage our senses, and learn to listen to the voice of our intuition. This process, of finding one’s own way, is necessary for personal and spiritual development. If someone is always there to save you, you never learn to save yourself.
And now, as we traverse the darkness, we move toward the light. Consider the Hermit from the major arcana of the Tarot your guide during this process. Holding out his single lantern, he lights the way home for us all. If you are a spiritual teacher of any kind, the Universe has called upon you to be the Hermit – not as a form of retreat, but as a form of surrender and exploration. If you want fast easy answers, you won’t find them here. But fast and easy is not what you are after, I suspect. That’s good: It means you are ready for what is next. The Mystery reveals itself to those who seek it.

May peace be with you in every step this holiday season, my loves! Happy Hanukkah, and Blessed Christmas tidings to you and yours during this sacred time, when holy days converge and traditions entwine. I hope that you are snuggled up with loved ones, basking in gratitude and love, and sharing in the festivities of gift-giving. It’s my wish for you to soak in the love and gratitude, and then spread that love to the world. May the magic of this season, the consciousness of light and unity, be with you.
Astrology – Love and Authority
Venus, the goddess of love, enters the sign of pragmatic Capricorn on December 24th, at 9:25 pm PST, encouraging us to take responsibility for our relationships, and for manifesting what we desire in our relationships. Are you receiving love with an open heart? Sometimes, Capricorn seems to close us down, but its ruler, Saturn, has domain over boundaries, both their expansion and contraction. Consider examining your heart boundaries, and whether or not they need reigning out or in, as an act of self-love. Venus also represents our essential needs and values, and in Capricorn, she needs respect, responsibility, and accomplishment. In her earthiness, Venus works well with Capricorn, unless she is pushed too hard. This transit is a good time to get grounded and make sure your efforts are aligned with what truly has purpose. And if you’ve been sitting around waiting for life to make the next move, consider stepping into your own authority.
Weekly Tarot
The Judgment Tarot Card comes forward today, for all of us, representing rebirth and absolution. Study the image depicted on the card – notice the small figure (the Self) at the front center framed by a female figure on the right and male figure on the left – they who represent the divine balance of masculine and feminine need for enlightenment. The emergence of consciousness is represented by the angel playing his trumpet above. Notice the clouds surrounding the angel to no effect. He blows his bannered trumpet regardless of the storm. On his banner we see a cross dividing the flag into four squares, which represent the four natural elements – earth, air, fire, and water. We not only see the three figures front and center, but many in the background as well, and all are rising, naked and exalting from their tombs. They are reborn and they are in an ecstasy that can only be attained through the Great Work, the master work of transmutation and self realization.
Judgement is a card of renewal, rebirth, transformation, change of position, and eternal life. When we draw The Judgment Tarot card, we are being called. This is where we are asked to make a judgement as to our life path. Will you respond? The difficulties arise when we cannot answer the call to which we are being summoned. If we freeze out of fear, we are transgressing back to illusions of The Moon. So in a way, this is a card of action. It asks us to now make the necessary decisions about the future. This is our moment where we can choose what is important to us. Which values will we cherish and which will we discard? When we can see with the clarity obtained on our journey, we can discard what no longer serves us. When this card appears, it may be asking you to do just that. Trust it.
Weekly Journal – What do you see?
Have you ever written about your ideal mate in a manifestation journal? A way of bringing every one of those qualities alive in one person? Has it ever worked? Have you ever done one for yourself? If you were to write down the ideal qualities that you would like to possess, what would they be? Do you see what I’m getting at? It’s healthy to constantly want to grow and transform. It can be terrifying to hold up a mirror, measure yourself, and come to the realization that something needs to change. If it’s necessary, that is the bravest thing you can do. But what if these changes are based on an unattainable, unrealistic version of yourself? What does that say about you, and how much you value yourself? When we manifest our intentions for the year to come, we must do so without fear and without judgement. The most potent manifestations are created when we’re happy. Did you know that? When we try to build ourselves up, instead of tearing ourselves apart. To have realistic goals does not make it less magical, but more respectful of who you are as a person – a perfect being in your own right. And being content with yourself, allows that same happiness to permeate through others. How do you bring joy to others? How much are you worth to yourself?
