The Weekly Sage – Edition 7; October 8, 2017
Welcome to the latest edition of our new Weekly Sage, an outward and inward look at the week to come. So many of us use Tarot, astrology, and contemplative journaling to support ourselves and each other. We hope this little weekly blog will inspire all of us to think, feel, and transform in bigger ways together. May it unite us by collectively magnifying our personal intentions into a potent resource of positive energy, that will spread into our communities and beyond. There is major magic afoot at Sage Goddess this month, including our live (virtual and in-person) New Moon and Festival of Lights (Diwali) celebration, honoring the goddess Lakshmi on October 19 (RSVP on our onlineand in-person event pages), and our live (virtual and in-person) Samhain celebration on October 30 (RSVP on our online and in-person event pages). Bring a friend to both events! Everyone who brings a guest to this month’s celebrations will receive a special gift from us.
While we look forward to what is ahead of us, let us also take a moment to reflect on what is behind us, and what has been lost. We call upon Gaia and Great Spirit to protect all people on Earth, in particular those who are defenseless in the wake of tragedy. Our hearts go out to the victims and survivors of the horrific violence that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week. Many have asked me, what can we do? We can choose to commit to making the world a better place by embodying the basic principles of humanity – treating each other with equality, compassion, kindness, and love. When we stand united with one another, we are stronger. We can raise a frequency of peace and commit to bringing peace forward in a collaborative way. We can continue the work we have already begun, and be vigilant in service of creating beauty in the world, mirroring that out and through ourselves and to each other. We can be in service of love, and we can be good stewards of the time we have together here on Earth. We can remember those who were lost so that their lives and their presence continue to be felt and appreciated.
Join us as we practice gratitude, so we may generate and sustain positive thoughts, which will then turn into positive actions in service of the Greater Good. And all shall be well.
Astrology – The Naked Truth
On Tuesday, October 10th, Jupiter will enter the sign of Scorpio at 6:19 am, Pacific Time. This transit reflects powerful potential for personal and collective change, as Scorpio is the sign of death, rebirth, and transformation. Scorpio’s most evolved archetype is the Phoenix, who rises from the ashes, transformed through the flames. In Roman mythology, Jupiter (Zeus) is the king of the gods – the symbol of supreme knowledge. In Astrology, Jupiter represents confidence, higher knowledge, truth, and expanded consciousnesses. As Jupiter moves through Scorpio, we are drawn to transform, and in order to transform, we must face the truth of who we are and what is…right now. It’s nearly impossible to change something without establishing a relationship with it first. Jupiter in Scorpio encourages more intimacy and honesty. It instigates our drive to discover why things are happening – why we act in certain ways, why others say and do the things they do, and why we are here.
Jupiter wants to take us into uncharted territories, to take us beyond the map and into the land of experience, and to uncover more of our personal truths and our own natural ways of being/living. Scorpio’s intense nature encourages us to explore the depths of our power, leading us into our emotional wells. Scorpio is unimpressed by shallow beauty – it goes for the guts. It longs for vulnerable intimacy, but is hesitant to trust. Because it recognizes its own capacity to cause harm and trauma, it instinctively questions the motivations of others. This is the perfect time to do shadow work, my loves, in preparation for Samhain. When the energy of Scorpio is combined with Jupiter, it creates a passion for mystery and hidden meanings within the Universe and ourselves. It supports our hunger to enthusiastically run through our darkness with curiosity and bravery, as Jupiter loves to broaden the playing field, and Scorpio fearlessly explores that which feels forbidden.
I do hope you’ll join me on October 30 for our Samhain event where, this season we are taking a new direction; a new approach to descending into the transformational power of Samhain. RSVP on our online and in-person event pages. I would LOVE to see you there!
Weekly Tarot
The Temperance Tarot card comes forward for all of us today, representing balance. In my experience, understanding the Tarot starts with interpreting the images illustrated on the cards. Every color, movement, and symbol of the cards, through our perception, allow us to connect with the messages they deliver. The angel is said to be the androgynous child of Hermes and Aphrodite, cloaked in white with wings of fire red – representing the balance of the two genders, and the balance of earth (fire) and heaven (white). The angel has one foot testing the water (subconscious), with the other on land (consciousness), while also distributing water in two chalices (balance of both extremes). And finally, observe the path behind the angel that leads to the brilliance of the Sun. When the Temperance card presents itself in a reading, it advises us to tread slowly, and to learn to work with the duality that resides within us. Instead of viewing our complexities as competing forces, we are advised to synthesize and balance our extremes. The Temperance card is not about giving something up, but incorporating moderation. The only way to conquer our darkness is to understand and work with it. Within the depths of our souls, our greatest journey hides behind a door waiting to be unlocked. By alchemizing our extremes, we create keys of possibility, opening new pathways to all that we desire.
Journal Prompt – The Art of Transformation
Transformation begins with one thought. It’s true that we shouldn’t entertain every thought that runs through our heads, because our minds can trick us into confusing our anxieties with truth. Our minds, can also believe that we enjoy indulgences and activities far more than we do, just because they’re comfortable. Then there are those thoughts that resonate with us so deeply, that unless we confront them, they will never leave us. These are the thoughts we must pay attention to – whether they have truth behind them or not, there is a reason they have created a home in our brain. Transformation begins, first, with understanding ourselves – with asking the prevalent questions such as “does this make me happy?” How do you visualize your transformation? What steps do you need to take? Is it difficult for you to find clarity through your abstract shadow? Have you tried less linear ways of connecting with your deeper and darker self, such as collaging a shadow board, charcoal finger drawing, or dancing? Are you hiding behind your desires as an escape from facing your truth?
Simple right? And yet so profound. As all magic is.
