The Weekly Rune ~ WUNJO
- Details
For the week of 20 December 2015
Take delight in this last week of the sun’s year.
Jera is the half-month rune, through 28 December. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. Read right to left is Jera, followed by Wunjo as the intuitive stave. The intuitive stave brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week.
Following is a summary of The Weekly Rune.
Since Samhain, the Dark Time has been fraught with several reversed staves. In fact, it has been the longest string of reversals since I began writing The Weekly Rune three years ago. In the tradition I follow, Samhain marks the end of the year, while Winter Solstice indicates the new year. This week’s runes indicate a happy new year, indeed.
Jera, or “year,” is the rune of inventory, or “Hearth Accounting 101,” as I call it. Historically, the Northern Tradition was headed into the thick of winter, and it was necessary to know what provisions were at hand, how long they’d last, how many they would feed and warm, and what needed to be kept back to plan for the coming year. A very practical time, planning was essential, as was rationing.
Wunjo as the intuitive stave is icing on an already hard-earned, sweet cake. When I do personal readings for clients, they all want Wunjo to come up in the cast. Certainly it’s a great memo from the Multiverse when it does. Indicating all cylinders firing as they should in terms of orlog and wyrd. The final stave of the first aett, it gives two thumbs up that we have managed to align our effort (force) with our embodiment (form) of creative pursuits, and we can take a reprieve to enjoy that state.
Remember this process. It is what underlies All Things. It is the blue print to make it happen again.
I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful Winter Solstice.

Overview
Runes are a method of divination similar to the Tarot or the I Ching. The difference is that Runes are a set of 25 stones instead of 78 cards or a set of sticks with patterns. As with the Tarot, most of the Runes may be rightside up, or up side down, the meaning differing with the case. There are also some Runes that can not appear up side down. In practice, the Runes may be made of any material; ceramic, stones, sticks, or drawn on cards.

Runes originated with the ancient Etruscans and were spread upwards throughout the Alpine regions to Northern Europe via the trade routes. The Germanic tribes took them and adapted them to their own needs and uses. The oldest and most widespread of the Germanic runes are the Elder Futhark or Common Germanic Runes. The word rune, which occurs in various forms in Germanic and Celtic languages, means "a mystery" or "holy secret" that is "whispered".
Runes were traditionally carved into bone, wood or stone which accounts for their angular shape. The lack of curves made it easier to create the shapes in either hard wood or stone.
