Certainty

A reflection on choosing certainty over hesitation, releasing old identities through ritual, and committing fully to the path your soul already knows. ~Crystal
“If you stand, stand. If you sit, sit. But don’t wobble!”
– Zen Master Ummon
The practice of certainty is the art of committing fully to a path.
Certainty asks us to stop with all the familiar excuses: I don’t have enough time. I don’t have enough money. I’m not smart enough, etc.
Certainty gives us permission to close doors and burn bridges. Not as an act of recklessness, but as an act of devotion and surety.
Instead of continuing the circle of acting small and hovering in hesitation, we choose to move. We close the escape hatches. We stop giving ourselves a way out.
Rather than saying, If this doesn’t work, I can always go back to what I was doing before, we walk forward with a steady, grounded dedication to our own evolution, trusting that the wisdom we’ve gathered—and the wisdom that lives within us—will rise to meet us.
We grant ourselves the liberation of stepping into uncertainly with certainness.
Take a moment to look at your life as it is now.
Is there any area where you feel constrained? Have you misplaced a part of yourself somewhere in the rush of work, children, responsibilities, caring for others?
Do you remember that time in your life when you felt in the flow? Can you touch that version of yourself that made choices from desire, clarity, and inner knowing?
Ask yourself what changes you long to make. Where do you wobble when it comes to stepping into something new?
Ritual for Releasing Hesitation
This is where ritual can support you.
One of the Shamanic Energy Medicine practices I have been practicing recently is using a death arrow. A death arrow is a simple, symbolic tool for release. It can be a small stick, a slip of paper, a dried leaf—anything that can burn safely.
You write, speak, or breathe into it the patterns, fears, or identities you’re ready to let die. It becomes a physical representation of what you’re ready to release.
Make a list of what you’ve been hiding—from others, and from yourself. When you’re done, attach your list to a death arrow and burn it with the intention of welcoming certainty back into your life.
The Fire Ceremony
A fire ceremony is a way of marking transition. Fire is a natural alchemist—it breaks things down and returns them to energy. When we offer something to fire, we’re saying:
“I’m ready to let this go. I’m ready to create space for something new.”
You don’t need a bonfire. A candle is enough. What matters is intention.
A simple structure:
- Create a quiet space.
- Hold your arrow and name what you’re releasing.
- Offer it to the flame.
- As it burns, imagine the old pattern dissolving.
- Then consciously invite in certainty, clarity, and commitment.
This ritual engages your mind, your body, your emotions, and your symbolic imagination. It creates a clear boundary between what was and what is now beginning.
Your Invitation
Make a list of what you’ve been hiding—from others, and from yourself. When you’re finished, attach your list to a death arrow and burn it with the intention of welcoming certainty back into your life.
Let the fire clear the way for you to be seen—open, imperfect, whole—and ready to commit to the changes your soul has been asking for.
Yours in Healing,
Teresa
