7 Meditation Tips to Stay Connected with Your Intuition

meditate

How many of you meditate? This can be a scary word for some people, only because it's misunderstood. Meditation is simply being in the present moment and not allowing your awareness to wander off to what you're having for dinner or when you're going on vacation. If you take just one full breath and only focus on the breath in that moment then you have just achieved meditation. Meditation is like that, a quiet moment in time. If your mind happens to wander then notice it, don't beat yourself up about it. Simply bring yourself back to that quiet state of being. It can take a few goes to receive benefit from your practice.

So how can meditation help with connecting with your intuition? Your intuition offers you direct access to the Divine. It speaks to you through your feelings and knowing.  One of the best ways to connect with it is through quieting the mind, and how do you quiet the mind? Through meditation. With a quiet mind all those Divine communications can get through. Imagine your intuition is like a radio station. Life in general can create interference but meditation gets you to the exact channel you need to hear your intuition clearly. Here are a few tips to guide you in your meditation practice.

1. Meditate Daily

Meditation slows the left-brain while switching the right brain – your telephone to the Divine – into the right frequency for communication. Meditate for at least 10 minutes a day and at the same time each day. This will get your body, mind and spirit into a routine and before you know it whenever this time comes along you'll already be programmed to meditate.

2. Meditate in the same place.

Each time you meditate it creates a special energy, so if you have a meditation chair or a devoted space then it will take on this beautiful vibration. Every time you sit in the chair you will be affected by the energy and will easily drift off into a meditative state without much effort on your part.

3. Try using a Mantra

A Mantra is often made up of two syllables such as “I AM.” Repeating a mantra over and over again in your mind helps you to eventually arrive at a place where you are no longer reciting the words – this place is called the Source of Thought. As soon as you realize you’re not saying the mantra just begin again. When you are at the source it has a similar feeling to when you reach a state of meditation called Nirvana. It's not quite the same, but it's the place you want to aspire to when meditating. When I have reached Nirvana I am no longer thinking and any questions I had about my life are no longer important, because all the answers are available to me. Ideally bringing this state of awareness into your every day life will help deepen your intuitive connection and pratice.

4. Take a walk in nature.

Nature can be incredibly meditative and healing. The secret to meditation is simply to stay in the present moment. Walking meditation is all about focusing on the here and now. When you walk in nature while meditating you are more present and what you’ll find is that nature will guide you through your intuitive connection. Whenever I do this kind of meditation I feel a deep sense of love coming from the trees and plants around me, a presence I don’t feel as much when I simply take a walk.

5. Keep a journal.

When meditating all kinds of information, healing, and guidance can surface. You might even find yourself connecting with loved ones in spirit, especially if this is your focus (see my note later on meditating for psychic awareness). Little things can emerge and its good to have whatever comes up logged so you can refer back to it. It's an opportunity for your intuition to send you clear messages, but might not understand those messages at the tie you receive them. So, write whatever comes up in your journal.

6. Check in with your body.

If you’re uncomfortable it will be harder to go into a deep meditative state. Also when you’re emotional it can be tough to remain at peace in the present moment. If your body is not allowing you to meditate then do something else instead, something that doesn’t require thinking about it too hard but still keeps you in the present moment. Something like housework works great. You can stay in the present moment while washing the dishes or ironing clothes. If your mind starts to wander off simply notice it and bring yourself back to focusing on what you’re doing in the here and now.

7. Ask for guidance

You can ask questions before you go into meditation, but just allow the answers to come in through your feelings, don’t make them your focus. You have access to all knowledge, so when you quieten your mind during meditation you allow this information to filter in to your consciousness. It may not emerge during the actual meditation, but it will come to you at some point during the next 48 hours, especially if you program it that way.

Meditating for Psychic Development

If you want to develop your intuition and psychic skills through meditation practice then invite your guides to work with you while you meditate maybe once a week to begin with and make sure to do this at the same time and day each week. This will create a date with your guides and Angels. They’ll schedule this time to connect with you and if you forget they will remind you – I get tickles on the top of my head whenever I am late to meditate.

* A side note on meditating to develop your psychic awareness. I have a great meditation in my store. We use it in all my Intuition classes. One of the most important practices when developing these skills is to learn how to open the energy and how to CLOSE DOWN. I was shocked when I first came to the US to discover that no one – and I mean no one I had come across – was teaching that all important closing down technique. So if you imagine you are a house when you open up psychically you’re opening all the doors and windows plus you’re turning all the lights on. Keep that up for an indefinite amount of time and you’ll suffer burn out. So the Chakra Workout Meditation: Intention - sets up this routine of opening and closing down. Even better of course is to attend one of my Intuition Playshops. The routine is drummed into you – in a nice playful way of course. Check my CALENDAR for upcoming Playshops and GET THE MEDITATION HERE.
