Effects of Listening to Music While Sleeping - Is It Bad?

Effects of Listening to Music While Sleeping - Is It Bad?

One of the questions most people ask these days is whether listening to music while sleeping is good or bad. Well, based on some studies it is good to listen to music while sleeping and there are numerous positive effects of it - both physical and emotional.

It definitely helps you fall asleep and helps you deal with insomnia. Additionally, it can block some unwanted noise at night, like the road noise for example.

The following article will provide a closer look at the benefits of listening to music while sleeping, and even go through some of the dangers of it. If you are interested, please keep reading.

Listening to Music While Sleeping: Why should you do it?

It is well known that listening to songs you really enjoy and which make you happy will help you fall asleep faster and feel more relaxed. You can compare this listening to music to the period when we were children and our parents would sing us lullabies to help us fall asleep. It’s pretty much the same, right?

If you turn this into a routine you will definitely see the positive effects of listening to music while sleeping. You can try listening to a radio station or listening to your favorite songs using your earbuds. As a result, you will feel more relaxed. On top of that, if you repeat this routine every night at the same time your body will understand it as a signal that it’s time to sleep and rest. Falling asleep won’t be a problem anymore because you are going to train your body to get ready for it.

Another interesting thing you should know if you plan to listen to music while sleeping is that songs having the rhythm of 60-90 beats per minute will help you relax better because it is the rhythm of the heart while resting.

Wherever we go and whatever we do we can’t avoid stress today. Music can help us here, so instead of thinking about all the negative things that have happened today, our brain will focus on the music. So, whenever you have a chance, play some good music while having a rest. Doing it at the end of the day will definitely help you fall asleep faster than usual.

Sleeping with Earbuds: Is it safe?

It can be a bit uncomfortable sleeping with your earbuds on, especially if you are a side sleeper. On the other hand, you have to be aware about the dangers of it.

Earwax is constantly created in our ears and it protects our ear canal. But when the ear wax builds up, its protective role can be lost. It will clog the ear canal and it will definitely have a negative effect on your hearing so it’s important to take proper care of it.

Using earbuds for a longer period of time can be responsible for earwax buildup because the earbuds actually block the earwax from getting out. Just check the earbuds you are using now. If you see earwax on them you can be sure there is plenty of it inside your ears too.

There is also a danger to strangle yourself with the earbuds while sleeping but it really seems so impossible that we won’t discuss it any further. However, if you think this may happen to you, then we would recommend trying going to sleep with wireless earbuds.

We have just mentioned wireless earbuds or headphones if you are worried you may strangle yourself. If this really worries you, you can perform a quick search online and you will easily find some wireless sleeping earbuds or headphones which are already placed inside a headband. Maybe the sound isn’t the same as in regular earbuds but you will see that they are quite comfortable and quite handy since they won’t fall off during the night.

If you sleep alone or your partner sleeps like a rock, listening to the radio is a great option. There are many alarm clock radios on the market today which will be perfect for this and you can easily use their timer to make the music stop after some time.

Summary

If you have had a rough day or you are just too tired, and you can’t relax hours after you get home, the best thing you can do is to play some of your favorite songs. You can easily create your own playlist and it is something that will be great for you on the long run. Listening to music before you go to sleep and even after it, and making a routine out of it will definitely have many positive effects on you. Falling asleep and resting is just one of it, and we have to admit, it is the most important one for most of us. However, even if it doesn’t help you fall asleep at first, at least it will make you feel better.
