6 Reasons Why Thailand Is A Perfect Place For Your Spiritual Journey

1

Thailand is a place where modern meets ancient and spirituality is not something external, but it is deeply rooted in people’s everyday lives. This is why Thailand can offer a whole range of activities which will be a great addition to your spiritual quest. By pursuing activities that result in living a healthier and a more compassionate life, you are sure to achieve the divine.

We have selected 6 reasons for why Thailand is the perfect place for your next pilgrimage.

Visiting holy places

The first thought when setting off on a spiritual journey is visiting holy places. Thailand has an enormous number of temples and shrines that are all worthy of your visit. However, this is also why it is important to shortlist a few of them. If you are in Bangkok you cannot miss Wat Pho or ‘Temple of the Reclining Buddha’. In the midst of a city, it is a place of meditation and contemplation as well as community. Apart from many other temples, do not miss holy places like Dragon’s Cave which is said to heal all maladies. The view from the cave stretches for miles into the lush green scenery.

2

Yoga

Apart from visiting temples, you can also find great sports for learning or practising yoga. Like Thai massage, it a practice ever-present in the world but especially in Thailand. There are so many places to choose from. If you want to remain in the bustling city like Bangkok, you can find great studios and developed communities.

Then again, if you want to be one with nature, you can opt for one of many Thai islands. The water, sandy beaches as well as steep cliffs can provide all the serenity nature has to offer. However, if you are looking for middle ground why not set sails for the north part of the country to one of the holiest places Thailand can offer – Chiang Mai. It is a relatively big city but set in nature, so it might be just what the doctor ordered.

Meditation

Apart from practising yoga, meditation and meditation resorts are also very much present in Thailand. Depending on the time you have and personal level of dedication, you can choose between different options. On one hand, you can opt for a more serious meditation silence retreat even if you are a beginner like in Wat Suan Mokkh. On the other, you can choose a more luxury meditation treatment at The Kamala Koh Samui, but there are also so many offers in between the two mentioned. Most resorts will offer consulting in addition to different packages and programmes.

3

Snorkelling

Even when you are on a spiritual journey, you are still allowed to have fun. Due to Thailand’s geographic position, you can snorkel all year round and the interesting marine life intersects between the Indian Ocean, the Andaman and the South China Sea as well as the Gulf of Thailand. Most accommodations, such as Thai villas, overlook the waters. Being surrounded by the natural beauty, focusing on your breathing and changing perspective while diving can be just as refreshing as yoga or meditation.

Healthy food

Considering and changing one’s habits brings better health as well as happiness. Food is one such item we seem to take for granted. Vegetarian meals, optionally with meat, spring from Thai lifestyle and are updated to suit the needs and knowledge of modern life. This food combo is served in most vacation resorts, so your body can heal as well.

4

Helping animals

Apart from visiting holy places, dedicating your time and effort to yoga and meditation, enjoying diving and changing your diet, you can also serve others so as to heal yourself. Thailand offers a wide range of volunteering programs for helping animals, exotic ones as well as the more domestic ones like dogs. The more popular ones would be Elephant Conservation programs but there are also Coastal Marine Expeditions.

So in addition to visiting temples and other holy places, practising yoga or meditation, you can also be more spiritual by immersing yourself into nature by snorkelling, eating healthy or by helping animals in need. Where you will end up depends on your preferences, as spirituality is present in metropolitan cities as well as in caves overlooking green valleys. Hopefully, now you have enough reasons to set on your journey to Thailand.
