Mystical Perception - Seeing the Soul, Truth, and A Greater Life

Mystical Perception - Seeing the Soul, Truth, and A Greater Life

A Spiritual Brother reminded me of this offering from Education in the New Age by Alice A Bailey, the scribe for a Tibetan Master.

This is an extraordinarily rich piece of material and very accurate. HPB called it "occult vision," a desire to know the unknown, to serve beyond our wildest imagination in our pursuit of betterment to become the divine Self in service to the Fellowship of Humanity.

There is a difference between “mystical thinking” and “Mystical Perception.” The first is mostly magical, delusional, or wishful thinking, while the second enables us to perceive the mysteries of Life. Mystical thinking is often born of avoidance or superficiality, hoping and wishing for that which fulfills ego, and not Soul.

Mystical perception is our vehicle for seeing beyond the known, understanding the pure potential of the Soul in each moment, and visualizing ways we may grow in our loving expression, our wisdom, and our ability to serve a greater good. From the walls of the Hall of Learning, "Those who desire to learn shall learn." This is from the Tibetan.

THE MYSTIC PERCEPTION

Civilizations, cultures, races, and nations appear and disappear, but with them the same individualities come and go, reaping the fruits of experience and progressing progressively toward a fuller self-government, and group organization and synthesis. I will also remind you that there is a peculiar quality in every human being, an innate and inherent characteristic, inevitably present, which we could call "mystical perception".

I use the term in a much wider sense than it is generally given, and I would like you to consider this quality of mystical perception as if it included:

  1. The mystical vision of the soul, God and the universe.
  2. The power to contact and appreciate the world of meanings, the subjective world of emerging reality.
  3. The power of loving and moving toward that which is not the lower self.
  4. The ability to catch and intuition ideas.
  5. The ability to present the unknown, the desirable and the desired, the consequent determination and perseverance that allows man to seek, investigate and go after that unknown reality, mystical tendency that has brought into existence the great and famous mystics of the world and countless explorers, discoverers and inventors.
  6. The power of feeling, registering and palming the good, the beautiful and the true. This has brought forth the writer, the poet, the artist and the architect.
  7. The longing to discover and penetrate the secrets of God, and of nature. This has raised the scientist and the religious.

By studying these definitions you will see how inclusive the term “mystical perception” is. It is no more no less than the innate power in man to reach and cling to what is bigger and better than himself, which has driven him to advance through civilizations and cultures that developed progressively, and today is on the verge of a new realm of nature.

“Mystical Perception” is the power to value and strive to achieve what is seemingly unattainable. You should keep this broad and general thesis in mind, as we study the developing power that man possesses for self-expression, self-determination and self-government.

As you can imagine, this opens countless doors of limitless perception of all kinds of things. To know the Soul and the universal principles, the meaning of life and the place of the lower self, to find inspired ideas and know that which is largely unknown, and to find the secrets of Nature and further all that is true, good, and beautiful, is surely the goal for all of us.

Aum and blessings!
