Astrology Class - When the Nodes Return to Their Natal Positions

Astrology Class - When the Nodes Return to Their Natal Positions

I was asked a while back to give my take on the meaning of the times when the North and South Nodes return to the signs they were in when we were born. This usually happens three or four times in a life if we live to an advanced age.

The North Node is our “line of greatest development” and our South Node is our “line of least resistance.” The North Node pulls our growth into the future, while the South Node is where we “show what we know.”

The return of the Nodes to their natal positions happens about every 18 years. A return of anything to its natal position re-sets whatever that return is about. So the return of our North Node at 18, 36, 54, etc. re-sets our line of greatest development and is a time when we begin to learn anew, since the natal North Node (NN) is our line of greatest development in this lifetime.

Transits represent the ongoing outer “real world” circumstances. The transiting North Node represents the general line of growth and development globally, and when it returns to the same sign as our natal NN, then our growth is again in alignment with the generic growth tendencies in the world. We can be clearer about our general line of development this life, while seeing circumstances which help us adjust to that line of growth and align with what is favorable in general.

So the time of the “return of the Nodes” are points in our development when we renew the sign energies pulling us to growth, but renewed to our specific circumstances which have evolved since the last time the Nodes were in those signs. Each Nodal return helps us re-set our trajectory of greatest growth, since each chapter of life has different requirements.

North Node/South Node

The return of the Nodes to their natal positions helps us adjust our growth focus. The years after the returns, we learn new things related to our North Node until 9 years later when the transiting North Node conjuncts our South Node and the transiting South Node conjuncts our North Node.

That begins a different phase, since that begins 9 years where we grow through “showing what we know” and we demonstrate how we are able to grow based in what we’ve learned the previous 9 years. Then we again have a Nodal conjunction in the same signs as our birth, and re-set the process anew.

As you can see, this leads to “pulses” of 9 years of growth, and then 9 years of showing how we’ve grown by what we demonstrate to our world. If you want to know more about the Moon’s Nodes, please check out the archives as there’s a 4 part series I last posted in June 2017 on the Moon’s Nodes, what they are, how they work, and the various ways to interpret both the natal Nodes and the transiting Nodes and their influence in our lives.
