The inner planets represent elements of our personality; the outer planets represent the dance of power in the social, cultural, and transpersonal levels of life.
Jupiter and Saturn represent the fluxes of society and how commerce and opportunity, as well as assumptions and rules, vary across time. Each planet is associated with certain systems, and their transits through the signs show us the conditioning factors in those systems.
As Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto have all been within a few degrees of each other in the sign of Capricorn almost all year, and Jupiter is expansion while Saturn sets rules and limits, it’s clear this has been a year of considerable consolidation of power in Capricorn, and represents a culmination of a long cycle we began back in the days of Ronald Reagan. As both Saturn and Jupiter have conjuncted Pluto in that sign in 2020, it is definitely the culmination of the structures of rigid power with a “pandemic” underlying influence of Pluto.
In short, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn consolidated coercive destructive power at the highest levels. That’s why we’ve seen a resurgence of authoritarian dictators around the world, as well as right wing violence spiking through the roof. The extreme evangelical libertarian right wing materialist billionaires have finally achieved what they set out to do 40 years ago. They have almost total control over society, as they have managed to buy our government and manipulate laws to consolidate that power. That's Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn.
However, history moves on, and different times bring different social needs. The Aquarian ideal set into motion by Mars conjuncting Saturn in that sign in March began a long wave pulse which will take off this December when Jupiter conjuncts Saturn, also at 1 Aquarius. Jupiter conjunct Saturn in Aquarius represents people wanting a new ideal, or some sort of cooperative social order for a greater collective good, unlike the Capricorn need for personal power.
Because this year is a blend of Capricorn and Aquarius conjunctions, I see this playing out as the old Capricorn economic, social, and religious order will still be in place until Pluto enters Aquarius. Even if society wants to move on, the Pluto in Capricorn manifestation of coercive power will still be the underlying widespread “mover of seed ideas” until it enters Aquarius. Then the coercive hidden corrupt power players must move into the new Jupiter/Saturn social, economic, and environmental order already developing this year which will take off in the next 3 years.
Because Pluto usually accompanies radical upheaval, purification, and in some cases widespread annihilation, we can expect more Pluto in Capricorn destruction even as the new Aquarian structures begin to take shape collectively. So while the collective ideal is Aquarian, the coercive power will still be active below the surface in Pluto’s invisible realm. That will be the basis of the struggle for a new way of living over the next few years.
As students of the craft know, Mars is the active trigger for the larger trends indicated by Jupiter, Saturn, and the invisible outer planets. So far in 2020 we’ve had Mars launch another round of Capricorn energies in March, and then get into conflict with that Capricorn power structure during the last half of 2020. This conflict continues over the next year, as the January 2021 Mars conjunct Uranus waxing square to Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius will bring the conflict between the stuck materialistic forces and the expansive ideal in motion out into the open.
By March 2021, Mars will begin its transit of the signs outside the outer planet occupied span between late Capricorn and mid-Taurus until it comes back to Capricorn in early 2022. That Capricorn transit will trigger a new iteration of the Capricorn cycles set into motion in early 2020 and give us one last conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn. However, in March 2022 we’ll see a definite shift in our world, since Mars will transit Aquarius and trigger the Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn cycles in Aquarius for the first time since the conjunctions this year, strengthening the Aquarian pulse and expressions.
In early April 2022 we have a Mars conjunct Saturn in late Aquarius at the same time Jupiter conjuncts Neptune in Pisces sextile Pluto. That sets those energies as prime factors in the power system until the next pass of Mars into the occupied outer planet zone, when it conjuncts Pluto at 1 Aquarius in early 2024. That begins a cycle moving us out of the Capricorn coercive power plays into the sprouting of the seeds of the new social and political order set into motion at the Grand Mutation of December 2020.
In short, we will have to contend with the coercive, heavy handed, and destructive Capricorn power systems for at least 3 more years as the emerging Aquarian systems begin to get set in place for the long run. I suspect that by 2024 many of the current power players will have left the world stage, and a new era of needed cooperation for the greatest good will be upon us.
