Sabian Symbols Showing the Light of Play Expressed Through Being Galvanized to Action.

This Full Moon is the eighth since the Solstice conjunction launched a new long term era. We’re headed into the future!

As I offered in previous articles, we had several extraordinarily important long wave conjunctions in January 2020 which were set into motion in March 2020. All the conjunction points made by Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in January and March were activated by Mars in March 2020, and its conjunction with Saturn at 1 Aquarius set long wave structures into play which are expanding and currently taking shape.

That “Great Compression” of planets in early 2020 created a very crowded house in a very narrow span of degrees, impacting where we have late Capricorn for many years to come. Add the three conjunctions of Jupiter with Pluto as it transited back and forth over the January and March degree points, and we’ve had a lot of long wave Pluto energies expanded which will show effects over the next decade! As the Full Moon fulfills the themes of the previous New Moon, we now can use the beauty and power of new vitality we’ve accepted these past two weeks and see a greater way to play at our work and work at our play. Recent months helped us leave a lot of elements of our past behind, as well as old ideas and scattered thinking. This one gives us new light on our ability to use the “inconveniences of life” to build our sense of group solidarity through new inspired forms of expression.

Saturn continues to be incredibly powerful as it occupies mid-Aquarius and creates off-and-on T-square through Leo oppositions and squares to Uranus. This continues to help us accelerate our spiritual evolution. It has been giving structure and substance to the themes of the third 5 degree segment of Aquarius, further solidifying the new Aquarian patterns of the coming era. Because it is retrograde, we will see “karmic chickens coming home to roost over the next few months.”

The wave that began last April and was given wings in December will take clearer shape as Saturn sits between 7-14 Aquarius this year. Last year we were “galvanized into action” and “liberated from adverse conditions.” This Full Moon on that Saturn stationary degree will give us a new focus on what began then.

This year Jupiter gave us an expansive view of all of Aquarius between January and mid-May, with a major review coming in August and September when we’ll move through the second phase of our long term transfiguration into a new life. Once it goes direct, we’ll get a third look at the last part of Aquarius before Jupiter races through Pisces in early 2022.

The Sun in Fire and the Moon in Air shows a time of the Fixed Fire (stabilizing inspiration) of Leo expressing its consistent expression of heart energy through the Fixed Air (stabilizing ideas and interrelatedness) of Aquarius. In this chart, 4 planets are in the first third of their signs, 2 planets are in the second third of their signs, and 4 planets are in the last third of their signs. This indicates a balanced emphasis between the actional-material field and individual, mental, and spiritual fields, with a diminished focus on the social/emotional field.

Why Are Full Moons So Important?

At a Full Moon, that which has opened since the previous New Moon surfaces in a public form, and heads toward the culmination and fruition symbolized by the second half of any cycle. First half, birth into form and field. Second half, culmination and completion of the purpose of that cycle.

That’s why it’s important to regard the New and Full Moon charts as “God’s Footprints in Time,” since one follows the other in an unending sequence of births of newer and newer seeds. The New Moons show us the seeds that will flourish under the reflected light of the Full Moon.

Full Moons heighten feelings, due to the opposition of the Moon and the Sun. We’ve finished many months of no transit to transit oppositions other than those made by the Moon, and began a new run when Mars opposed Pluto. Because we now have three oppositions it means we have three evolutionary “Tension of Opposites” in this Lunation, the first involving 21-27 Cancer and Capricorn, the second involving 1-12 Leo and Aquarius, and the third 26 Leo/Aquarius to 4 Virgo/Pisces.

Dispositors - What's the Backdrop to the Energies?

The Sun is in Leo, its home sign, making it the ruler of itself. The Moon is in Aquarius, making Saturn its worldly ruler and Uranus its spiritual ruler. As the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn are in their home signs, they are their own final dispositors.

So this Full Moon features three “final dispositors” ruling all the other planets. A final dispositor is a planet in one of its “home signs,” or the signs it rules. The Sun rules itself and Mars; the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Uranus, and Pluto are all ruled by Saturn; Jupiter rules itself, Saturn rules itself, and Neptune, as usual, is a “standalone” planet, ruling itself. That means the rulerships are fairly lopsided this month.

By looking at how “chains of dispositors,” “final dispositors,” and “mutual reception” are in play between the planets, we get a clear picture of the backdrop for how each planet operates. The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon

This Full Moon falls at 2 Leo and 2 Aquarius. It is said that the first third (decan) of any sign deals with the actional, material, and physical levels of life, and as the Lunation is in the first decan of those signs, invokes a sub-influence of Leo and Aquarius.

Since the Moon always focuses the light of the Sun in specific forms, the degree symbols for both are important. The Sun degree is the illumination or enlightenment of the Lunation, whereas the Moon shows us the potential forms that enlightenment will take. Though I’ve given you a sense of what this is about up to now, here’s where we go into detail.

The Solar Sabian symbol for the 2nd degree of Leo is “An epidemic of mumps.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality,, Rudhyar ways this is a degree of “constructive result of inconveniences of life in developing communal values,” “self-sensitiveness,” and “subtraction from things.”

In The Astrological Mandala he states the keynote is "the spreading power of individual crises through a collectivity.” He notes that this symbolizes “a process that affects the entire society,” which implies that any individual crisis may affect far more than just that individual. He goes on to say that mumps are a childhood disease, but it can have serious consequences for adult males who catch it.

He continues that “what was an individual issue is now seen as a collective danger. Thus we are dealing with the infectious spread of individual experiences.” He says it falls in the Span of Assurance, and it’s the counterpoint degree in the actional level of the scene of Combustion in the Act of Stabilization.

I have seen this degree work in terms of “gain through subtraction,” where we are prevented from going certain places and/or doing things with others. I believe this has to do with our occasional need to separate from routines, places, and people so that we are not “infected” by what’s going on “out there.” So it represents a “quarantine” of sorts, of closing a place where people congregate to learn, freeing them to associate or not outside of that environment. So if you cannot do something, or go somewhere, then play with others to cultivate your heart, the source of all immunities.

Definitely pay attention to how individual dis-eases, malfunctions, obsessions, and compulsions have the power to spread through the collective. Be careful what you accept, believe, or pass forward in the way of emotional and mental “dis-eases” you may inadvertently picked up from another, whether past or present.

According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, this degree is where we see “personal capacities wholly out of hand, and of the momentary appeal of escapist ideas whenever the self fails to remain alive to its own immediate needs or ultimate interests.” Here we learn our “absolute necessity” to “retain a passionate sensitiveness” to the importance or “organic usefulness of everything” we encounter in our lives.

He says the keyword is INFECTION. We are told that when operating in a positive way, this degree is "continual self-dramatization as the basis for participation in current affairs.”

So the Light of the next two weeks involves our growth into a Soul expression through being sensitive to what is and is not useful in our lives, and separate from people and things that could “infect” us with that which we do not need or does not interest us. So if you’re wondering why you can’t make certain connections over the next two weeks, maybe you’re being protected from something or someone you don’t need to be exposed to, and are being given time to play, or be creative.

The Lunar degree symbol for the 2nd degree of Aquarius is "An unexpected thunderstorm.” According to Rudhyar’s notes from the Marc Jones class originally published in The Astrology of Personality, this degree indicates that we’ll be “liberated from adverse conditions” by a “cosmic visitation” that will “galvanize us to action” through “spectacular developments.”

This promises a wild ride wherever we have 2 Aquarius in our charts! Expect to be freed somehow by something that compels your attention and moves you to action.

In The Astrological Mandala he states the keynote is "the need to develop the inner security which will enable us to meet unexpected crises.” He says this symbol is about some sort of “social collective processes and the function of the individual within them.”

He offers that this symbol could have positive effects as well as negative ones, and states “it refers to an event for which one is not prepared,” and therefore “Nature’s challenge.” He states this degree is in the Span of Defensiveness, and it's the counterpoint degree of the actional level of the Scene of Contribution in the Act of Capitalization.

Marc Jones says 2 Aquarius is a symbol of "Nature’s potentialities as they lie beyond any individual control,” and “the tendency of all things to come to some dramatic head in either physical or psychological terms.” He states this is about the need “that every living spirit remain wholly self-quickened within itself,” and stay open to its “inevitable participation in every shifting pattern of events.”

He continues that we find opportunities for self-fulfillment in “the convergence of relations in some climax of experience.” He offers us the keyword ACCIDENT. He goes on to state that when this degree is operating in a positive manner, it is “creative opportunism and a genius for shaping all eventualities to some desired end.”

As this was Saturn’s stationary retrograde degree in May 2020, it would seem the focus of these next two weeks is a reflection and/or reprise of what happened beginning May 2020 representing a challenge to mobilize to some sort of action, so we could be “liberated us from adverse conditions.” Some will experience an extraordinary “cosmic visitation” which could change their life, bring them a new security, or quicken their Spirit so they can participate more actively in shaping some sudden event to “some desired end.”

From these symbols it seems we can see the light of “the inconveniences of life” in helping us mobilize when presented with “a cosmic visitation.” This is the Light of new actional awareness expressed through seeing ways to make a greater contribution somehow. Play with spontaneous radiance expressed as an awareness of a collective crisis. The Sun illuminates our ability to be playful and creative even under restricted conditions, while the Moon expresses and gives form to this through mobilizing us in some dynamic way to meet some social challenge.

At the 2020 World Teacher Full Moon of Sun in Gemini and Moon in Sagittarius I gave you a universal prayer/meditation offered to us by the Tibetan Master D.K. in April 1945 at the end of the war. Tens of millions around the world do this prayer every Full Moon, tuning into the Whole which we ALL are together. I said it every day for many years, and still say it every Full Moon. (It was a real trip to see eyes suddenly open and/or lightbulbs go on over people’s heads when I did it countless times riding the NYC subways when I lived there in the early 80s!)

From the point of Light within the mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of All,
Let Light descend on Earth

From the point of Love within the heart of God
Let Love stream forth into the hearts of All
May Christ return to Earth

From the center where the Will of God is known
Let Purpose guide the little Wills of All
The Purpose which the Masters know and serve

From the center which we call the Human Race
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

Again, as I’ve offered you many times before, when you see the title "The Christ" if you are so inclined please substitute "World Teacher," "Bodhisattva," "Imam Madhi," "Krishna," “Kristos,” "Avalokiteshvara," "Maitreya," "Messiah," or any other term used to describe this Great Being. And if you substitute “Enlightened Ones” or “Wise Ones” for “Masters” I doubt it would offend anyone.
