The December 2020 Full Moon at 9 Capricorn-Cancer Pt. 1

The December 2020 Full Moon at 9 Capricorn-Cancer Pt. 1

- A Technique for Social Power While Searching for Fundamental Truths -

This Full Moon of Sun in Capricorn and Moon in Cancer will bring power and clarity, along with realizations of unique opportunities to reclaim things thought lost. This one helps us go inward to reorient toward more healthy environments, both physical and psychic.

So what can we expect from the Lunation? This initiating, transformative, imaginative and final Full Moon of the year falls at 7:28 pm PST December 29, 3:28 am GMT December 30 on the 9th degree of Capricorn and Cancer. We’re still experiencing tremendous losses in the Gemini and Sagittarius areas of our charts, and this Full Moon brings back the energies of 2 Aquarius, given Saturn’s occupancy of that SRX degree from last Summer!

As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. The Solar Eclipse New Moon’s theme was related to allowing “the bluebird of happiness” to land in our lives, and removing blocks to our ability to feel and spread joy. This is a time of either finding a balanced approach to things, or finding that removing the blocks to our job restores our inner equilibrium.

Continuing the theme that proceeds at each Full Moon as they move through each polarity, this one is the sixth of a series where the previous New Moon Sun is in a different sign than this Full Moon Sun. We can now take the “light of a new technique of social and/or emotional transference of awareness” since the New Moon, and still being in a season of “saying goodbye quickly,” can see how to tune in to our invisible helpers and learn about basic life mysteries.

Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.

An Overview

We’re now officially launched into a new 20 year and 200 year era! We “graduated into a new realm of being” last May, navigated the nonstop storms of July through October, and now have preserved what we need to move forward. In 2019 and 2020 we built the structures which we’ll use in 2021 and 2022 to grow into a greater contribution to our world and lives.

This year’s Eclipses have helped us take a pause from life’s more hectic activities, when we had to be “alertly ready to act” while not “falling into distress at not knowing what’s ahead” during a long period of changing allegiances and reorienting so we can stabilize something wherever we have 1 Cancer. The Sagittarius Eclipse will help us release blocks to our happiness, showing us the power we have to steer our “ship of personality” to the safe harbor of our higher destiny.

Remember that all Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our lives. These losses clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer, more appropriate life substance can come to us. We’ve cleared out many old ideas, truths, habits, and perspectives since Summer, and seen the need to step back from needless anxiety. We’re all surrendering to a wider view and deeper, vaster ways of regarding our life and the Life around us at the threshold of a new era for humanity.

This is the first Full Moon with Jupiter in Aquarius! Having completed its year in Capricorn, Jupiter is now racing forward, expanding the Aquarian energies which are being structured by Saturn over the next two years. The Full Moon gives us one last look at Capricorn issues for the year, since we’ve quickly moving from past to future!

As you know from other articles, 2020 was the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which primed the pump for the 200 year Air era which began on the Solstice with Jupiter conjuncting Saturn at 1 Aquarius. However, we will still be “under the beams” of last year’s powerful conjunctions in Capricorn, since between January and March 2020 we began new Saturn/Pluto, Jupiter/Pluto, Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. The first of these launched a new 33 year era into motion.

Due to these conjunctions in late Capricorn and both Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn in Aquarius, we are in a long term period of finding wisdom by understanding transfiguration and enlightenment as verbs rather than nouns. We’ve now officially taken the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not yet “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.

Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?

There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. Since August we’ve been in the latter phase.

We’ve had the Sun in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At August’s Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo. This month, the New Moon Sun was at 24 Scorpio and this Full Moon Sun is at 9 Sagittarius.

The last time we experienced this reverse order began at the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in late Leo and lasted until April 2019, when the Sun was in Aries in the New Moon as well as the subsequent Full Moon. The reversed pattern we just entered will last until August 2021, when the New Moon is at 17 Leo and the Full Moon is at 30 Leo/Aquarius.

Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now are in a sequence with the “Seed Light” of Scorpio coming to a Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Sagittarius and Moon in Gemini. You can learn more about the recent New Moon at 24 Scorpio by checking out those two articles posted 2 weeks ago.

Planetary Distribution

In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Venus at 11 Scorpio and the Sun at 9 Sagittarius) is 27+ degrees. This month we see all the inner planets moving closer to the Capricorn stellium, with the Sun making a semisquare with Pluto and Jupiter and a septile with Saturn. As the inner planets move into Capricorn, it will narrow the occupied span until it become another Bundle Jones pattern in January. This month the primary focus is the inner planet span and the next span defined by the 3 planets in Capricorn.

The Capricorn span is 5+ degrees wide, with Pluto at 24 Capricorn, Jupiter at 27 Capricorn, and Saturn at 29 Capricorn. We’re now done with the T-squares involving the inner planets with Mars and the Capricorn planets, and have made the final transit to transit oppositions for the year (except for those generated by the Moon.)

We’re now almost through the first year of the short and long wave cycles set into motion by Great Compression conjunctions in Capricorn in January and March 2020. After the inner planets enter Aquarius in January and February, we’ll have another Great Compression in early 2021, this one in Aquarius.

We had two Great Compressions in Capricorn; one in February 2019, and one which hit maximum compression in March 2020. These brought us “Bundle” Jones patterns, with everything bundled in a very narrow span this year, creating a crowded house wherever we have Capricorn through Taurus. The Bundle pattern will again predominate between January and mid-March 2021.

Because of the occupied spans, it means the Moon is the primary determiner of the Jones Pattern, since it creates several different energy patterns along the way as the closing planet, nozzle, and opening planet for the rest of the planetary energies. This is the first Full Moon where it’s outside the outer planet occupied zone, since Gemini is outside the Capricorn to Taurus span.

At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn in late Capricorn, then moves through Neptune in Pisces, Mars in Aries, and Uranus in early Taurus, with the inner planets now occupying Scorpio and Sagittarius. In this chart Pluto is again the entry planet to the occupied span between Cap and Taurus, which will be a feature for many years to come. Transformation time!

As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Cancerand the loose hemispheric distribution, we have now moved back into an imperfect Bowl Jones pattern.

So What is a “Bowl Pattern” and how does it work?

This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately half of the signs with an empty half opposite the occupies half, creates a “special type of conscious selfhood,” which Dr. Jones says “marks the Bowl type of temperament. He goes on to state “Fundamentally it is an extreme self-containment,” which “holds things, and a Bowl individual is one who always has something to bear.”

He goes on to state that with the Bowl, “the whole dynamic of man, his total power of achievement, arises in his instinctive realization that he is set off against a definite part of the world, that there is a complete segment of experience from which he is excluded in some subtle fashion. The Bowl not only holds something, but also places whatever it holds into relationship with a larger consideration.”

Dr. Jones continues that “the occupied segment of the Bowl horoscope reveals the activity and organization of the self, since planets are significant according to their place by sign and house, and the unoccupied segment becomes a challenge to existence, or the need and emptiness to which the native must direct his attention. The outstanding characteristic of the Bowl temperament is its marked sense of what is self-contained in contrast with what the self cannot hold, and this take an everyday form in an advocacy of some cause, the furtherance of a mission, an introspective concern over the purpose of experience.”

He concludes his explanation of how the pattern works with “The Bowl native always has something to give to his fellows, whether literally or psychologically, whether constructively or vindictively, because his orientation to the world arises from division; that is, frustration and uncertainty. The leading planets, determined in exactly the same way as for the Locomotive pattern, give a point of application, and shows where and how the native seeks to carry out his mission or gain his everyday justification for existence.”

He brings up another important point of analysis, as he states “the leading planet is of secondary importance in the Bowl pattern, unless it is found in a strong opposition or cosmic cross. The fundamental attack on the problems of life by the Bowl individual is indicated more significantly by the tilt or house-position of the Bowl-segment.”

He concludes this section by stating “the Bowl character is definitely more self-expending, or self-seeking, and more practically interested in what things mean and what they are. It continually throws the emphasis from the signs into the houses. It a general way the Bowl tends to ‘scoop up’ things and initiate experience when the position of the leading planet ranges from the fourth cusp, up and over the ascendant, to the midheaven cusp, and then inclines to “capture” things or consummate various phases of life when the leading planet is placed similarly from the tenth angle down over the descendant to the nadir.”

Venus in Sagittarius is the leading planet, so find a Venusian “expansive view of better environments” approach to initiate experience with an eye to escaping forms of material, emotional, or mental “pollution.” Follow the flow, do what you have to do to prepare for the future, advance into or renounce social roles as needed, and remember you rehearsed what’s coming back in April, May, and June. This continues a larger period of “a karmic turning point” with some doors closing and other opening.

With the Moon closing the Bowl pattern, use your feelings as a guide when searching for understanding and meaning of some of life’s basics. Cultivate techniques of reorienting through emotional and social discoveries. Be childlike when searching for answers; beware of childish people asking questions but not wanting to know the answers! This leads with social, emotional, and cultural Transferrence, and closes with emotional-social decisions which reorient our view and dedication based in what has been removed from our Cancer sector since Summer Solstice 2020.

Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?

Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I just updated it a few days ago, and incorporated a further look into the future.

For many weeks, we have been revisiting the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) as both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, Jupiter and Pluto were both biseptile Uranus, and Jupiter and Saturn were both septile Neptune. In this chart all of these have passed except Uranus biseptile Pluto.

However, as the inner planets conjunct Pluto they’ll also septile Neptune and biseptile Uranus, putting this “7-pointed Star of Destiny” evolutionary configuration into play. Obviously, this is triggered off and on throughout the year whenever a planet moves through any of the hot zones of the configuration. All of these transits bring choices, changes, and decisions affecting our future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn has now entered its other home sign of Aquarius, it continues to be the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. That makes it a dominant force through April 2022. And because Jupiter has been in Capricorn and now Aquarius, Saturn continues to dominate center stage during the transits of Sagittarius and Pisces. That means Saturn will loom large over personal and global events each Winter for a while!

Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.

In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we needed in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.

I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Couple with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.

The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.

Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.

On A Final Note

See you in the near future with parts two and three on this “tuned in, turned on, adventurous and liberating Full Moon which will continue to shake us loose from our old comfort zones. The New Moon Solar Eclipse opened us to a greater happiness and joy, and with Venus about to cross that degree, we should have much to appreciate in the next few days.

Whatever disruptions occur, remember it’s just a “cosmic visitation” which should “galvanize us into action through spectacular developments.” The path forward is to step outside the old social norms, rules, expectations, and assumptions, and re-claim our individuality through being free to reinvent whatever we need to in order to be more genuinely ourselves. The coming weeks give us imaginative power to free ourselves from old “social rigidities” and find happiness in fellowship which shows us the dawning of a new day.

The Sun lights the way to more effective social functioning in Capricorn, and offers us the light of responsible activity through self-discipline to “tune in” to our invisible helpers. We stand on the threshold of a new era which is already dawning, so continue to let go of all that keeps you uptight since we all have new duties and responsibilities coming soon!

The new roles and responsibilities we’ve taken on in 2019-2020 will lead to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn have led us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, indicates our work for a long time to come. Again, look to where you have late Capricorn and early Aquarius in your chart to see the focus of coming years.

Because of the Mercury retrograde “bookend” theme of 2020, we now have found a higher, more diplomatic and dignified way of interacting with others over the past year. The recent Mercury retrograde period gave us a look back to see how we’ve “raised our game” in our interactions, and we now are in a period of several weeks where we can use a combination of “soft power” and “hard power” to move through the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.

We have now entered a new chapter in our spiritual journey at a fork in the road of our collective destiny. 2020 has been about forging our connection with the World Soul, our Wisdom, and our greater dedication. We’re all wiser than we used to be, and those who can use their imagination may find that they’ve found what they thought they lost. This is a time to value your heart connections with your friends, and display the vaster spiritual awareness you share with your Brothers and Sisters.

We’ve stabilized the Capricorn promise of 2018 and 2019 as changes accelerate the coming conflict which initiates the coming 20 year Aquarian sub-era which will change us and our world for decades to come! Maintain your self-discipline, be patient with the process, don’t be limited by old roles and assumptions, and open to a new life and work!

I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
