The October 2020 Full Moon at 10 Libra-Aries Pt. 1

The October 2020 Full Moon at 10 Libra-Aries Pt. 1

- Finding Relief As We Move Toward A New Life -

This initiating, balancing, edgy Full Moon forcing major adjustments as we navigate fogs flying by the seat of our pants occurs at 2:05 pm PDT, 10:05 pm October 1, and falls at the 10th degree of Libra and Aries. Move forward with heart as there are “promises to keep, and miles to go before we sleep.”

As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. The New Moon’s theme was being led into a world of transcendent activity with gratitude. This Full Moon is the Light of equilibrium and relief expressed in a greater symbolic understanding of past events.

Continuing the theme that proceeds at each Full Moon as they move through each polarity, this one is the third of a series where the previous New Moon Sun is in a different sign than this Full Moon Sun. We can now take the “light of finding inspiration in routines” since the New Moon, and still being in a season of “saying goodbye quickly,” can see how to use our spiritual knowledge to get a new understanding of the meaning of what we’ve been going through.

Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.

An Overview

We’re now moving into the end game of Jupiter and Saturn’s dance with Pluto in late Capricorn. Since the June and July Eclipses, we’ve been in a “cosmic moment of pause which presages change,” and must be “alertly ready to act” while not “falling into distress at not knowing what’s ahead.” The bigger pictures shows us changing allegiances and reorienting so we can stabilize something wherever we have 1 Cancer. And finally, we are all seeing the Light of “permanence in Truth” and letting go of nonessentials, having gotten a different perspective about our past and what’s important in the present.

Remember that all Eclipses involve the “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our lives so the voids can be filled in the future with those things which are more accurately reflective of who we’ve become. We’ve all been reorganizing on many levels, and seeing which control systems we no longer want to participate in.

Our elemental distribution is all over the map during these months! This Full Moon brings us back to an imbalanced spread, with a continuing preponderance of Earth. These next two weeks Fire is prominent, with a slight advance in Water.

This is the eleventh Full Moon with Jupiter in Capricorn, which is again in forward motion, getting ready to expand all the late Capricorn energies set into motion in January and March. This promises a form of “political power,” or our ability to use that power in ways that bring peace and/or relief after the “whitewater” ride of the past few weeks. Coming weeks finish the Capricorn review, as Jupiter and Saturn are now in direct motion, with Pluto about to join.

As you know from other articles, this is the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which is priming the pump for the 200 year Air era breaking big this December! Between January and March, we began new Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. We also launched into a year of serious Saturn/Pluto energies, given the January conjunctions setting a new 33 year era into motion. As I said, we transfigured in 2018 and 2019, and now can find wisdom in the ongoing process of transfiguration as a verb rather than a noun.

This is the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.

Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?

There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. We have been in a period when the Full Moon Sun falls in the same sign as the Sun in the previous New Moon. This is the first Full Moon of the next cycle!

We’ve had the Sun in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At last month’s Lunation we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun is at 12 Leo. This month, the New Moon Sun was at 26 Virgo and this Full Moon Sun is at 10 Libra.

The last time we experienced this reverse order began at the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in late Leo and lasted until April 2019, when the Sun was in Aries in the New Moon as well as the subsequent Full Moon. The reversed pattern we just entered will last until August 2021, when the New Moon is at 17 Leo and the Full Moon is at 30 Leo/Aquarius.

Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now are in a sequence with the “Seed Light” of Virgo coming to a Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Libra and Moon in Aries. You can learn more about the recent New Moon at 26 Virgo by checking out those two articles posted 2 weeks ago.

Planetary Distribution

In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Venus at 29 Leo and Mercury at 5 Scorpio) is 35+ degrees. This month the nearest planet Uranus is far enough away from Venus that the inner planet cluster stands alone. So this is the primary focus of specific activity in our charts. However, because we have 3 planets in Capricorn, we have a second concentrated span of activity.

The Capricorn span is 7+ degrees wide, with Jupiter at 18 Capricorn, Pluto at 23 Capricorn and Saturn at 26 Capricorn. Mercury just finished its T-squares with Mars and the Capricorn planets, heralding what we can expect in mid-October when the Sun also makes the T-squares. This dynamic integrative energy won’t be finished until Venus makes its squares in November, putting a punctuation point of a serious season of conflicting energies affecting all of us in the late Cardinal sectors of our charts!

We now have confronted and are confronting the expressions of the Great Compressions in Capricorn in January and March 2020. This is creating a tremendously powerful “Axis of Awareness” involving Cancer and Capricorn. After the Scorpio oppositions to Uranus late in the year, we’ll again approach another Great Compression in early 2021, this one in Aquarius.

We had two Great Compressions in Capricorn; one in February 2019, and one which hit maximum compression in March 2020. These brought us “Bundle” Jones patterns, with everything bundled in a very narrow span this year, creating a crowded house wherever we have Capricorn through Taurus. The Bundle pattern will again predominate between January and mid-March 2021.

Because of the occupied spans, it means the Moon is the primary determiner of the Jones Pattern, since it creates several different energy patterns along the way as the closing planet, nozzle, and opening planet for the rest of the planetary energies. For now, it’s inside the outer planet occupied zone.

At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn in late Capricorn, then moves through Neptune in Pisces, Mars in Aries, and Uranus in early Taurus, with the inner planets now occupying Leo, Libra, and Scorpio. In this chart Jupiter is again the entry planet to the occupied span.

As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Aries, and two close oppositions, we continue to be in a SeeSaw Jones pattern.

So What is a “Seesaw Pattern” and how does it work?

This type of spread, with two or more planets on one side of the map and the others on the other side of the map, with at least one or two oppositions to define the axis of awareness, creates a “Seesaw” Jones Pattern. Where a Seesaw pattern is present, stay focused and balanced at the center while taking note of the periphery of things, and don't get off on a tangent or limb.

This pattern shows a need to be able to see both sides of any given thing, especially where there are opposing trends or views. The strength is in an ability to triangulate to angles of approach beyond the polarity that allows for progress and understanding.

As Marc Jones put it, “it reveals a less-sharpened but much more definite balancing of life emphases at opposing or contrasting points in experience. It is a persistent move to a balance which is apt to give a characteristic rhythm… The indication is not so much an uncertainly of action, or reaction, as a tendency to act at all times under a consideration of opposing views or through a sensitiveness to contrasting and antagonistic possibilities.”

He continues “the Seesaw temperament has its existence in a world of conflicts, of definite polarities. It is capable of unique achievement, through a development of unsuspected relations in life, but it is also apt to waste its energies through its improper alignment with various situations.”

He states that the ideal will show oppositions around the middle of the opposing “planetary aggregates” (clusters) and that axis will be the “focal determinator.” But, “if no such emphasis is present, the life tends to be significant at the side of the greater number of planets, or sometimes where they are concentrated most closely.”

As we have two separate distinct axes of oppositions in Libra and Aries as well as Taurus and Scorpio these two “tensions of opposites” will be the focus of the Seesaw tendencies. Wherever we have these two axes will be the source of tension and greater awareness.

Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?

Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I’ll be updating it through early 2021 soon.

For many weeks, we have been revisiting the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) as both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, and in this chart Saturn is again forming a biseptile to Uranus while Uranus is still in orb of its septile to Neptune. This makes for three active points in a 7-pointed Star of Destiny, with Sun biseptile Pluto adding yet another layer to the irrationality of our time.

This is yet another time of choice and change, with decisions being made which will affect the near and distant future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn has been and continues to occupy its stay in its home sign of Capricorn, it is the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. That makes it a dominant force through April 2022. And because Jupiter is in Capricorn, Saturn has also been center stage during the transits of Sagittarius and Pisces. That means Saturn will loom large over personal and global events each Winter for a while!

Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “current of destiny” is in front of us, based in how we have prepared for our “role of destiny” heading at us like an express train! In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we need in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.

I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Couple with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.

The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.

Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.

On A Final Note

See you in the near future with parts two and three on this creative, anticipatory, “re-imaging” Full Moon which will bring us relief after the past conflicts while heralding future ones which will decide many destinies. We’re entering two weeks of interesting “boomerangs,” where if we handled the difficult stuff in August and September we’ll get relief in early October, but whatever was avoided the past two months will turn up in challenging forms over the next two weeks!

We with the last Full Moon, because of the Mars squares, aggression predominates the atmosphere; do not be the target of another’s unrighteous attacks! Stay balanced, see when to use hard power and when to use soft power, face facts, be unafraid to tell the truth, and remember your friends and allies. If you can see the deeper and broader implications of the symbolism of recent events, you can redeem a promise and find what you have strived for since 2017.

While all Eclipses take away things we no longer need in our lives, these losses merely clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer, more appropriate life substance can come to us. We’re still clearing out some old ideas, old truths, old habits, and old perspectives during these weeks, so step back from needless insecurity and see the bigger picture. We’re all surrendering to a deeper, vaster way of regarding our life and the Life which is all around us.

The Sun lights the idealism of Libra, and quincunxes Uranus, showing something in Taurus has to give way. This indicates adjustments and sacrifices, but again, we showed our navigational skills in late August, and now can accept the “forced growth” of ambition either paying off or getting derailed. We have an intensely spiritual “evolutionary configuration” involving Venus, the Sun, and Neptune. Accept or reject what you need to in order to come to a greater realization of your dedication, and stay firm when issues of fairness and justice are on the table.

The past 2 months we’ve had Leo trines to Mars in Aries and quincunxes to Capricorn planets, as well as Virgo trines to Capricorn and quincunxes to Mars in Aries. In coming weeks Venus will show us how to secure the Virgo/Capricorn stabilizing energies while continuing to force sacrifices and adjustments in our Aries sector. Use Mercury in Scorpio to penetrate through fogs, lies, and gaslighting by those who want to grab power or undermine you.

The Virgo trines to Capricorn have helped us understand something of the truth of Capricorn being revealed, and that Capricorn stellium still dominates the playing field due to the Great Compressions of January and March. If you want to know more about those early 2020 compressions, there are links at the bottom of this article.

The new roles and responsibilities we’ve taken on will lead to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn are leading us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, get used to playing this for the long haul. The more skillful we become in dealing with life’s aggravations, annoyances, disruptions, and unexpected diversions, the more we are able to keep our cool in the midst of the generic atmospheric conflict and irrationality. That way we can fulfill our destiny and enjoy the journey!

April, May, and June featured various types of “cosmic visitations” which “galvanized us into action to become free of adverse conditions.” That conditioned all we’ll go through for the rest of the year! In April, the squares from Aries to Capricorn gave us a front end look at the nonstop conflicts in August, September, and October, while the April Mars in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus gave us a front end look at the sources of future conflicts which will boil over this January. April began our journey to find balance, protection, creativity, and recalibrated magnetism.

Since the Summer of 2019, we’ve all been “tearing ourselves away from the known and familiar, gambling all on a great dream.” However, the same revolutionary pulse is showing as others reacting in confrontational ways, promising a period of polarization and tension between the old and the new. Just beware of the old masquerading as the new, and beware of people being oppositional-defiant for no good reason.

We all continue to journey into the unknown since the Solar Eclipse is removing all which is contrary to what we care about and are here to nurture in the future, and the recent Full Moon Eclipse in Cancer offered “the Light of Sirius,” the Sun of our Sun, illuminating a path to transfiguration through giving us a vaster perspective in time. During this extreme period, we are offered chances to let go of fear, egocentricity, and feelings of fatigue or inadequacy. We are still finding healing through seeing images of our past in a different light as symbols of a new social-emotional expression while learning to concentrate to see the whole picture.

We’ve been offered many higher, more diplomatic and dignified ways of interacting with others these past few months, with this shift opening doors to even more evolved relationships. Even if you don’t understand now, you will by early November after Mercury retrogrades back from 12 Scorpio to 26 Libra.

As we approach the Grand Mutation of 2020, the next 2 weeks reinforce our gratitude, give us some relief, and a new perspective on recent conflicts. We continue to be in contact with the World Soul, our Wisdom, and our greater dedication. Stay balanced and show a lot of gratitude for the gifts and friends you have, as well as any sense of vaster spiritual awareness you share with your Brothers and Sisters.

Because of the nature of the retrograde Mars in Aries square the Capricorn stellium, maintain a balanced, just, caring, protective, nurturing and fair perspective on things. Just remember sometimes pulling a plug will restore order and harmony to the realm.

We’ve stabilized the Capricorn promise of 2018 and 2019 as changes accelerate the coming conflict which precedes the coming 20 year Aquarian sub-era which will change us and our world for decades to come! Maintain your self-discipline, be patient with the process, let go of nonessentials, and go inward or exercise power, depending on your circumstance.

I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
