On the second weekend of each month, for all 2016, we will feature the peace prayers of the 12 classical world religions, and several other prominent peace prayers. Today’s post is the second of this series.

As you know from our post last month, January 2016 Prayers for Peace, James Twyman, The Peace Troubadour, held his ISIS Prayer Vigil in war-ravaged Syria on February 1. He picked that day to coincide with the beginning of 2016’s World Faith Harmony Week.

After he got home, James emailed a summary of his trip to his mailing list. Here’s part of that summary:

The Rainbow, the Battle and the Wolves

Today millions of people joined together to claim the reality of peace for all those suffering in Syria, especially the children. Three amazing things happened that I want to share with you, miracles that show us the power of our shared, focused energy and prayers.

The Rainbow

As we drove to the overlook, someone on the bus said, “Look at the sky.” We looked out the window and saw a brilliant rainbow that completely circled the sun. It felt like a sign of what was to come. In an hour millions of people would join us energetically, sending their light into the situation in Syria, without judgment. The rainbow meant we were not alone.

The Battle

Hours before we arrived a battle raged just beneath where we stood. Bombs exploded and guns fired at the bottom of the hill just beyond the security fence. It seemed that we were up against more than we anticipated, but then something incredible happened. It was as if the war stopped while we joined together as one. The battle simply ceased, and remained that way through the entire meditation.

The Wolves

Over 100 people from many spiritual paths sat in silence as we were joined by you and so many others. We held that space for 15 minutes, and when I looked at the clock to end the silence, before I said a word, the sound of a single wolf howling just below us echoed through the air, then more until there were dozens of wolves that howled for exactly one minute, and then stopped. It was one of the most incredible things we ever heard.

In 2016 I believe we will see peace on earth, or at least more meaningful movement toward it. But when we look at our world, especially as reflected in the mainstream news media, peace on earth might seem like an impossible dream.

I’ve chased impossible dreams all my life. Most of them have come true. I believe the dream we all have for world peace will also come true. And James’ vigil was certainly a huge step in that direction.

Today’s post features the Islamic and Buddhist prayers for peace. But first we’re repeating a few of Spirit’s words from last month’s Prayers for Peace.

For those of you who work with numerology, 2016 is a most significant year. The four digits add up to 9, which signifies completion.

To follow up on John’s words, we see this calendar year as the completion of a centuries-long cycle.

While we do not make predictions, we see this calendar year heralding the most meaningful progress toward peace on earth that has ever been made in human history.

That is why your prayers for peace are so critical—to continue the energy and power that has been building for centuries.

Each of you, standing alone in your own light and love, is a powerful force—far beyond what most of you can imagine. All of you, standing together in unity and love, are an invincible force.

The so-called battle between good and evil, between light and dark, is over. Dark is defeated Evil never existed. Light and love prevail.

However, like evil, dark also never really existed. Dark is only the absence of light. As you all move closer to your true selves, your perception of dark just dissolves. That’s all dark has ever been—your perception, not reality.

Only light and love are real. Only God is real. You are all part of that oneness, that divine energy, you might call God.

This is as close as we have ever come to making a prediction: You will see peace on earth in 2016.

Islamic Prayer for Peace

In the Name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful
Praise be to the Lord of the Universe who has
created us and made us into tribes and nations
that we may know each other, not that we may
despise each other.
If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also
incline towards peace, and trust in God,
for the Lord is one that hears and knows all things.
And the servants of God Most Gracious are those
who walk on the Earth in humility,
and when we address them, we say, “Peace.”

Buddhist Prayer for Peace

May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of
body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may
those bound be free.
May the powerless find power and may people think
of befriending one another.
May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful
wildernesses—the children, the aged, the unprotected—be
guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they
swiftly attain Buddhahood.

You may know that Thursday, two days ago, a peace agreement was signed in Munich to end the the violence and bloodshed in Syria, While many details have yet to be worked out, this is a huge step toward ending the war.

I do not believe it is any coincidence this agreement was signed less than two weeks after James Twyman held his peace vigil in Syria on February 1. James synchronized the vigil with millions of people all over the planet. That is the power we have when we come together in love to create peace on earth.
