If March were an image, it would be that of a Lotus Lake, filled with blossoming pink lotus flowers. A lotus flower rises from the mud with its roots secured there, and in fact can’t grow without the mud.
Every night the flower submerges into the water, then re-emerges and re-blooms each morning with the rays of the sun. Lotus flowers are a symbol of rebirth, purity, transcendence, spiritual awakening and faith – in ourselves as well as something greater.
The watery themes and imagery that came through in the 2023 Energy Message are with us all year, so it’s no surprise that March has arrived with messages from the Lotus Lake. This specific image is partly inspired by Saturn’s move into Pisces on March 7, and partly by the Jupiter in Chiron conjunction on March 11-12. Let’s look at each of these influences.
Saturn in Pisces: March 7, 2023 – February 14, 2026
From March 7, 2023 – February 14, 2026, Saturn will be travelling through Pisces. Even though people might think these two are strange bedfellows – the disciplined Saturn with the dreamy Pisces, I love this combination. Neither would ever admit they need each other, nor do they, but they absolutely benefit from each other’s company, becoming more than either could ever be on its own.
Saturn’s influence grounds and anchors lofty Piscean ideas and ideals. Past Saturn/Pisces transits have seen the first lot of academic studies come out regarding the benefits of meditation (March 1964-March 1967), and spiritual/self-help books go mainstream (early-mid 90’s). After experiencing a very authoritarian, rules-oriented side of Saturn over the past few years, it will be a welcome relief to bring Pisces into the mix, turning our attention to softer, gentler, creative themes – with a focus on how to bring our dreams to life (individual and collective).
For a few years, I’ve written about the choice Saturn in Aquarius was giving us between a more ‘authority over humanity’ expression of that influence vs a “step into your spiritual adulthood and take responsibility” expression of that influence. As Saturn moves into Pisces, for those who resonated deeply with the latter choice, you will start to feel a greater sense of freedom, autonomy and responsibility around creating the version of reality that you most wish to live and experience.
There will be no shortage of ideas coming through you or being brought to you. No shortage of opportunities to step up and “be the change you wish to see.” Saturn will help to facilitate the ‘putting it into action’ side of things. No more wringing our hands about what ‘they’ plan to do next. It is time to focus more on what are you going to do next?
Pisces has a ‘loose’ relationship with the concept of ‘what are you going to do?.’ While other signs might interpret that as taking concrete and assertive action steps, Pisces feels that actions like meditation, journalling, prayer, self-reflection and contemplation are all powerful things to do. Likewise when it comes to writing, making music, singing, dancing, painting, making things more beautiful and making people feel more aware of the magical, non-tangible aspects of life. Soul-searching, star-gazing and seeking more knowledge about the supernatural world are all perfectly valid daily pursuits as far as Pisces is concerned.
“I can’t believe that!” said Alice.“Can’t you?” the Queen said in a pitying tone. “Try again: draw a long breath and shut your eyes.”Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying,” she said: “one can’t believe impossible things.”“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”- Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
While Pisces will encourage us to believe in impossible things, Saturn will nudge us in the right direction regarding anchoring and grounding our impossible things list and encourage practical action where relevant.
Impossible Things List: Allowing your imagination to run free, write a list of impossible things that you would love to see, do, experience, become, create, witness. Include visions for your personal life and for our world/collective.
Keep this list somewhere you can see it everyday as inspiration.
Notice what starts to jump out at you, waving its arms about “Do something to make me come true!”
Use your journal to ask: What is something that I can do, to help make you happen?
Jupiter Chiron Conjunction: March 11-12
Mid-month we have the potential for a beautiful, powerful healing moment as Jupiter and Chiron come together on 14 degrees of Aries.
In Greek Mythology, Chiron is the archetypal wounded healer. His father Cronus (Zeus’s dad) came across his beautiful mother Philyra while travelling about. As Cronus was married he took on the form of a stallion so that his wife Rhea wouldn’t catch him lusting after Philyra. After impregnating her he fled, leaving her to carry and birth Chiron on her own. Chiron was born with the upper torso of a man, and lower figure of a horse, half-god, half-human. His mother, filled with shame, disgust and trauma, abandoned him. Chiron was raised by Apollo who taught him the healing arts. Chiron grew up to be gentle, caring and wise with an ability to heal others.
One day he was accidentally shot by an arrow creating a deep, extremely painful wound. He was not able to heal it, and because he was immortal nor was he able to die. Thus, was created the archetype of the wounded healer.
We all have an emotional wound. That wound represents where we are most vulnerable because of our past hurts and experiences. Yet it also represents where we have the greatest capacity to heal ourselves and others, where we are most sensitive to pain, our own and others, where we have greatest potential for learning, growth, appreciation for who we are, appreciation for what we have, appreciation for all we have experienced, and profound metamorphosis. To paraphrase Kahlil Gibran, the deeper the groove, the more joy it can contain.
“On Joy and Sorrow Then a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow. And he answered: your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the same well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how else can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven? And is not the lute that soothes your spirit the very wood that was hollowed with knives? When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.” But I say unto you, they are inseparable.”
– Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
Jupiter represents expansion, abundance, good fortune. Jupiter is the Roman equivalent of the Greek Zeus, who is Chiron’s brother. It was Zeus who Chiron approached to please help him. A bargain was struck Chiron exchanged his immortality in return for Prometheus’s freedom (who had been bound for eternity as punishment for stealing fire from the Gods and teaching it to humanity). At last, Chiron was able to die and rest in peace. Zeus honoured him in the stars as the constellation Sagittarius/Centaurus.
So with this Jupiter/Chiron conjunction, we have an opportunity not only for deep healing, but some form of freedom and release from wounds, hurts or shackles that have bound us. You might have an experience that shifts something in you. A conversation that provides balm to the soul, or sheds light on something that has bothered you for a long time. Deep healing often conjures up images of deep soul scuba-diving, and there might be an element of that. But with Jupiter here, the scuba-diving is a bouncing-off point, a trampoline from which to fly free, and feel lighter.
- What is it that is due for healing?
- Which old wound is ready to be filled with healing balm?
- What is the heavy weight on your heart or soul that is ready to be taken off you, so that you can breathe more easefully?
- What part of your true essence has been hidden underneath all that?
- How would you show up in the world without that wound?
- What does that look like? What does that feel like?
- How would your sense of self, self-image, self-value and self-esteem transform?
- How would your ability to trust, let love in, and receive what you need transform?
- How would your sense of freedom to be and express who you really are transform?
Look at your natal chart to see where natal Chiron is for you. The house and sign it’s in will give you clues as to where your deepest wounds – and capacity to heal, and heal others – can be found. Also look at your natal chart to see where 14 Aries is. That’s where this special transiting Jupiter/transiting Chiron conjunction will meet. This will indicate which area of your life is most likely to feel this deep healing opportunity.
Jupiter/Chiron Journalling Healing Sesh:
In your journal or on a piece of paper complete the following. You can write as many words and sentences as you like in each ‘fill in the gaps’ space. Take your time. Give yourself a nice 10 minutes quiet space to do this exercise:
…………….. (event/person/situation) made me feel …………… about myself and made me feel …………… about life, and led me to believe that ………………….
The balm to my wound is for me to finally …………….., and feel ……………about myself, and know that ……………………
I now take back my …………….
The message I want to give to my past self is ……………………
The message that my future self wants to give my present self is …………………………
All Planets Direct
In March all planets continue the current 3 month phase during which they are all direct. Now is the time to move forward, go through those green lights, and maybe get a glimpse into those parts of yourself that are still cautiously holding onto the parking brake in some life area.
- What do these parts of you need to know?
- What do they need to hear from you in order to feel safe to take the parking brake off and go for it?
Pluto in Aquarius
March will also see Pluto move into Aquarius on the 24th, albeit only for a few months at first before moving into Aquarius full-time in 2024 for a 20 year stay. We’ll chat more about this in April. Look to your natal chart to see where 29 Capricorn and 0 degrees Aquarius are for you, and whether you have any planets or major points there. That is the area that is going to completely transform over this year and next.
The Solar Maximum continues with the strongest flare so far of this current cycle happening 17 Feb (X2.2). There is no one size fits all approach when it comes to how these flares affect us. The more you listen to your body the more you’ll know what you most need.
If you’re feeling a tonne of nervous energy, do something soothing like deep breathing, yoga, a slow walk-in nature, a warm bath.
If you’re feeling energized, use those moments to clean, clear, declutter, create, get going on projects, connect with friends, do things you’ve not had energy or clarity to do.
If you’re feeling deflated, connect with someone or something that is meaningful to you. In the words of Marie Kondo: what sparks joy? Remind yourself of who and what you love. Remind yourself about things you are grateful for. Do something that makes your heart happy.
If you’re feeling anger, resentment or frustration, release that in some healthy way: put on some loud music and dance around, scream into a towel, punch a cushion, pour out your feelings in your journal.
Every day these days we’re experiencing more shifts and movement than we used to over a period of weeks and months if not years! Not just internally, but via external events as well. It’s a lot! Above and beyond anything else, always remind yourself to go back to your centre. Exhausted? Go back to centre. Disillusioned? Go back to centre. Overwhelmed? Go back to centre. Inhale. Exhale. Place your hands on your body. Breathe. It’s your natural way to re-set.
