5 Nutrition Tips to Improve Your Health
Written by Patrick Adams
Nutrition is one of the most important parts of achieving a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet with fresh foods can immensely improve your health and life. This includes foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, protein foods, and whole grains. Good nutrition can improve many illnesses and overall body and mind health. If you want to know how to improve your health with good nutrition, read on for our 5 nutrition tips.
1. Make a Meal Plan
At first, changing your diet may seem exciting, and you go all in. But after some time, you find yourself slipping—you don’t make any healthy meals, or you don’t even buy healthy groceries. It can be difficult to completely change any part of your life, especially your diet if you are used to eating one type of way.
To prevent this from happening, you will have to make a meal plan. When you create a meal plan that is easy to follow, you won’t have to spend time and energy thinking about what you will eat for dinner that day, but you will just start making something delicious and healthy. If you are unsure of how a meal plan should look like, you can hire a nutritionist to help you.
2. Cooking in Bulk
Another easy way to start eating healthier is to start cooking in bulk. Cooking a single or family meal every day can be exhausting, and batch-cooking will make it easier. On your day off or a couple of times a week, prepare meals for the weak ahead in larger batches.
Separate the meals into containers that you will use throughout the week and heat them when needed. Most meals can be stored in the fridge for two or three days, and if you want longer storage time, freeze your leftovers.
3. Fruits and Vegetables
The most obvious but easily ignored way to improve your health and nutrition is to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Whatever your goal is—weight loss, muscle gain, healthier choices—fruits and vegetables are essential to achieving those goals. They are packed with nutrients and low in calories.
Fruits and vegetables can give you most of the vitamins and minerals you need in a day, without any drawbacks. When you are preparing your food, half of your plate should be vegetables, one-third protein, and one-fourth healthy fats. Fruits are great in the morning for an energy boost, as well as between meals as a snack.
4. Meat
Meat is an essential part of the diet for most people. It is our source of protein that builds muscles, gives us strength, and provides many nutrients. Meat, or other sources of protein like plant-based protein, should cover a third of your plate in a meal. It will give you the necessary strength and vitality, as well as some vitamins and minerals like vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin, and others.
Red meat like beef, lamb, and veal are rich in iron. Poultry, or chicken, turkey, and others, have a higher count of proteins. For the highest quality meat, choose local butcher shops, of which some provide purchasing meat online that can be delivered to you.
5. Conscious Eating
Selecting fresh, high-quality food is one part of the equation for improving your health. The other part is being mindful and actively choosing to lead a better lifestyle. Food keeps us nourished, but it can also control us through emotions and actions. Mindful eating is how you will be in charge of your journey to a healthier life.
First, learn to eat slowly. It will give time for your gut-brain connection to process the food, and alert you that you are full on time. Know why you are eating—check to see are you eating because you are hungry, or for some other reason.
Balanced nutrition can highly alter your life for the better. You will have more energy, and you will be less prone to getting sick. Set realistic goals for yourself to ease the transition, and follow a good meal plan for the best results.
