Chiron just went stationary direct at 8:33 am PST on December 19. We now resume our forward motion related to healing and/or mentoring we’ve experienced since May 2020 when Chiron first transited 9 Aries.
As Chiron is not merely “the wandering, wounded healer” but also the first, best mentor and teacher we could ever have, it helps us to “heal into our Higher Self” by mastering whatever lessons of science, philosophy, logic, healing, and yes, astrology we are offered. Because Mars was conjunct Chiron in July 2020 on its RX station at 10 Aries, we’re most of the way through that two year cycle of healing by learning how to take the initiative in healing ourselves or mentoring others in our own unique way, reinterpreting the imagery of our lives to find new meaning.
While Chiron is in Aries, it will be helpful to remember that Aries can only do what it does in its own way. As the first sign, it literally is inspired motion itself, moving on its own initiative toward whatever Light and/or heat it feels will bring the seed life to the surface, where it may acquire substance in Taurus. Chiron in Aries is healing and mentoring us in Aries ways; with the 2020 Chiron retrograde station conjunct Mars, this long cycle is a “flame on” to our healing, our learning, our teaching, and our journey from suffering in our woundedness to being a Master of breaking the link between the pain of life and the suffering of the lower ego.
At this point, Chiron begins its last look at the themes of 9 Aries, which are now a platform for how we can best express Chironic energies in our lives. As mentioned, it first crossed 9 Aries in May 2020, and then went SRX at 10 Aries in July 2020. It then gave us a second look at 9 Aries in August/September 2020, finally going SD at 5 Aries in December 2020.
It crossed 9 Aries again in direct motion in March 2021, went SRX at 13 Aries in July 2021, has occupied Aries since mid-Nov 2021, and remains on that degree through late Jan 2022. It will re-trigger the 2021 retrograde theme in late March and early April when it again transits 13 Aries, go SRX at 17 Aries in July 2022, and go SD at 12 Aries in December 2022.
So we’ve been dealing with themes involving the span between 9 -13 Aries for almost 20 months. Since Spring we’ve gotten a new look at a potentially new identity if we haven’t been too impatient with the process. With this direct station we say goodbye to Chiron in the first decan of Aries and look forward to Chiron in the Leo decan of Aries with an extra dose of the Sun! So we close this Chiron transit of 9 Aries in the emotional, social, and cultural span of the first half of Aries, while already beginning to experience 11-15 Aries, which is the individual, mental, and spiritual span of the desire to differentiate.
The Sabian Symbol for Chiron’s Direct Station
This direct station falls at 9 Aries. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The Sabian symbol for the 9th degree of Aries is "A crystal gazer.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this degree is one of “direction from within,” “taking advantage of all factors in a given situation, and knowing when to make decisions,” and “assurance.”
In The Astrological Mandala, he offers that this degree is about “the development of an inner realization or organic wholeness.” This represents our ability to see images which allow us to interpret “the situation as a whole,” where “the nascent mental faculties operating through still dominant emotions (or collective cultural incentives) act as a centralizing and whole-making power.”
He continues “what the intelligence perceives in its concentration is the function of every inner impulse and outer events in the open field of a ‘personality’ still unclouded by egoism,” which is a “new technique required for the development of individualized consciousness is revealed” to be “concentrated attention.” He states this degree falls in the Span of Realization, Act of Differentiation, and Scene of Desire on the Emotional-Cultural level.
Dr. Jones offers that this is a degree of the “capacity for bringing an entire universe within the purview of (our) mind,” where there are “higher faculties of human understanding, but as no more than the illimitable possibilities of personal experience in the realms of potentiality.” He offers that “the world and the individual (are) irrevocably in partnership, each reflecting the other and thereby providing a foreview of every possible mood or situation.”
He offers us the keyword ACUTENESS. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is consummate insight in planning the course of events or organizing them in the light of immediate convenience.”
So the Chironic theme for the coming months involves forms of techniques of “seeing whole,” concentrating our emotional energy to open to new possibilities of heal into our Higher Self. There are realizations about both differences and unifying factors to be embraced, and if we find the right “whole view,” we can anticipate how and when to act, and know how to organize our plan so it is to our convenience.
Chiron In Aries Will Dominate the Decade
The cycle created by the 2020 Mars/Chiron conjunction at 10 Aries will last through their next conjunction at 16 Aries in June 2022. So really, we’re in the middle of a much larger Mars/Chiron dance at this time in history.
They conjuncted at 29 Pisces in late December 2018, a degree of things “coming apart” at the end of cycles. It’s easy to see how many things ended in our world in 2019 and the first half of 2020. The 2020 conjunction initiated a long term Aries healing influence which will renew in 2022, moving the energies from the culmination of the emotional and social level of “Emergence” into the initiation of the scene of “Potency” on the actional and physical levels of life.
The 10 Aries themes will last through June 2022, when the next Mars-Chiron conjunction falls at 16 Aries. That will be the theme through late May 2024, when the Mars-Chiron conjunction will fall at 23 Aries. That influence lasts through their next conjunct at 29 Aries in May 2026. That means Aries is the way to heal for many years to come!
At this station, Chiron begins its direct motion with a quintile to Venus and Pluto, showing we can heal core issues in unique ways and circumstances by organizing or reorganizing some part of our late Capricorn responses. We also have a trine from Mars through the end of the year, along with a novile from Jupiter, promising expanded healing over time, especially when Jupiter goes stationary retrograde at 9 Aries, expanding the promise of this direct station theme.
Late February through late Mars shows Saturn in a waning septile to Chiron, indicating an important turning point in their cycle which began in April 1966 with their conjunction at 24 Pisces. This is a fork in the road for each planet relative to each other, primarily affecting zones near 18-22 Aquarius, 10-14 Aries, 1-5 Gemini, 22-26 Cancer, 14-18 Virgo, 5-9 Scorpio, and 26-30 Sagittarius. If you have something in one of these zones, you will have opportunities to heal into your Higher Self through managing material and social energies between late February and late March.
