Finding New Ways of Communicating What We Know.

Mercury goes direct in motion at 8:17 am PDT on October 18, and speeds up for the next 10 weeks. This shows a quickening of the ability to coordinate, put things together, understand the whole and the parts, the process and the larger cycles. It is now stationary at 11 Libra, affecting that area in our lives for 3 months to come.

Mercury, or Hermes, "the Guide of Souls," is also known as the Divine Trickster, as well as all lesser models. What does Mercury going stationary direct at 11 Libra mean? Perhaps it would be useful to take a look back on what the last Mercury direct station brought us since late June 2021.

You will recall that the last time Mercury went stationary direct in June it was at 17 Gemini. This is the third of three Mercury retrograde periods in 2021, and this year they all begin in the last part of their Air sign, and go direct in the middle part of their Air sign. So it’s a very Airy series of retrogrades this year! This will shift early next year when Mercury goes retrograde at 11 Aquarius and goes back into Capricorn, going SD at 25 Capricorn.

This retrograde period began at 26 Libra, helping us review the theme of the entire year, since that degree is where Mercury went SD in November 2020. We’ve been learning how to alternate between “hard power” and “soft power,” “mind” and “heart,” “will” and “love,” “yang and yin.” We’ve taken a new look at our sense of perspective and proportion, remembered many things about people in our past, and found a new way to demonstrate fluid responses. We’ve gotten a different perspective on all things Libra these past 3 weeks, and from here we move forward into a new expression of Libra energy in our lives.

We’ve now re-traced ground that we first saw via Mercury’s first pass from September 6 through 26, and re-examined via the RX from then to now. Of major importance will be when Mercury goes back over 26 Libra on November 2/3, because then it moves into unknown zones, carrying all its RX lessons forward until its January-February 2022 retrograde when we review what we’ve learned related to this year’s Aquarian themes set into motion in January and February 2021.

Now we face 4 months of being guided to our Soul using the qualities of 11 Libra. How we use those realizations to coordinate the qualities of that degree into our lives over the next 4 months will show us a different way of communicating information to others so we can transfigure our individuality or spiritual mindset.

Reflect on recent events teaching you about your need for flexibility in your responses, and/or how you had to deal with people who are out of balance and tried to provoke a dispute. Remember we’ve had Sun conjunct Mars for several weeks, and the inferior conjunction was exactly conjunct the Sun and Mars! That implies the retrograde quality plus Mars will still be in play for this entire Sun/Mars cycle which will last two years.

We should all start seeing, hearing, and understanding things that point the way to some Mercurial fulfillment related to how we have been and continue to be guided to our Soul. Given that it falls at 11 Libra, that area of our chart will be the focus of where the past gives way to the future.

The Sabian Symbol for Mercury’s Direct Station

The Sabian symbol for the 11th degree of Libra is “A professor peering over his glasses.” In the original Jones class notes Dane Rudhyar published in The Astrology of Personality, he states this is a degree of "cooperation of genuinely superior agencies with beings less evolved,” “glad willingness to assist and protect,” and “kindliness.”

In the Astrological Mandala, he goes on to say that this degree symbolizes “problems attending the transmission of knowledge in a special cultural setup.” He goes on to state that this symbol is about how to get information across to others, where we must look beyond the knowledge and see others as human beings.

He offers that this symbol “deals at the intellectual level with the teaching of accumulated collective knowledge, and the problem posed by the acquisition of that knowledge,” and he makes a distinction this deals with issues of instruction, “not to be confused with ‘education.’” He says it falls in the span of Expectation, and it’s the initiating degree of the individual, mental, and spiritual level of the scene of Transfiguration in the Act of Group Integration.

Dr. Jones says this is a degree of “high ego on the personal side,” and the “naïve self-confidence by which an individual is enabled to continue the role of superiority (they) have elected to play.” He offers this is about a “refinement of self in whatever particular phase of excellence will promise recognition for itself, and also the acceptance of the form in which it is manifest.”

He states this degree is about “a subordination of all other considerations to the immediate dramatization of responsibility. He offers us the keyword SPECIALIZATION, and states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is a quiet mastery of events through a developed insight or depth of understanding.”

From this symbol, it seems the next few weeks will help us to assist and be assisted in sharing knowledge and wisdom. If there’s a hang up in communications, try to get past the knowledge and see the human issues. We all get to “play a role of superiority” in some way, with specialization in the air and mastery through “developed insight or depth of understanding.

From Here We Move Forward

11 Libra is now a launch point for entering into a new (and somewhat familiar) realm in the Gemini and Virgo areas of our chart via Mercury’s placement in the Aquarius decan of Libra with an extra dose of Saturn. We now move forward, having done our time of shaping or re-shaping our expression. We’ve practiced flexibility in our responses, and now can see how to communicate and be communicated with in new ways.

This next phase of “transmuting life into mind” continues this year’s retrograde dance, giving us new looks and new information helping us transform and stabilize our Gemini and Virgo areas, as well as Aquarius and Libra. The first 2021 retrograde period one showed us a new commitment, leaving us with a sense of where we stood on the evolutionary ladder, who to emulate and who to assist, and whatever parts of our past we needed to end. This Summer retrograde helped us re-shape our expression, preparing us for building new thought forms. This one gave us a review of how adept we are at moving between yin and yang in our expression, and leaves us on a platform of wisdom related to communicating information.

We’ll close today with a reminder that although Mercury is now direct and won’t be retrograde again until mid-January 2022, the retrograde we’ve just experienced will affect the coming months until the next Mercury stationary retrograde at 11 Aquarius. At that point we’ll have a look back at how we’ve been inspired in moments away from the world, what we’ve left behind since last February, and how well we’ve learned to accept Pluto’s theme of finding transcendent security in relatively comfortable conditions this past year.
