At 8:58 pm PDT on March 21, 3:58 am GMT on March 22, Saturn begins its transit of Aquarius. This will profoundly affect all of us wherever we have Capricorn or Aquarius planets, as well as the houses with those signs on the cusp. As Saturn is in its home sign we can expect to continue its authoritative restructuring of our lives, with this chapter opening a larger vision of a long term greater good for humanity. Those who have planets in Aquarius will be experiencing a profound restructuring and/or maturation in those “inner Lights” over the next two years.

This will not be a thorough explanation for what we can expect during the Saturn in Aquarius era, since this is the initial entry which lasts for 3 months before it retrogrades back into Capricorn for one last blast of that energy before the Grand Mutation of December 2020 which initiates a new 20 and 200 year era with the focus on Aquarius energy! Still, given the binding pressure of Saturn in Scorpio (2012-2015) gave way to an open view of larger possibilities when Saturn was in Sagittarius (2015-2017), organized and shaped into forms of effective personal power during Saturn in Capricorn will yield powerful progressive group and social structures in years to come.

The initial venture of Saturn into Aquarius shows it moving to 2 Aquarius, where it goes stationary retrograde May 10-11. It will retrograde back into Capricorn on July 1-2, where it will eventually go stationary direct on September 28-29 at 26 Capricorn. It will then resume its forward motion until it re-enters Aquarius on December 16-17, where it will remain through March 2023.

Of particular note is that Saturn will go SRX on a very dynamic degree, that of “a cosmic visitation which will galvanize us to action,” liberating us “from adverse conditions” through full on mobilization to deal with something which threatens us. Seems appropriate given the global pandemic we’re dealing with!

Play close attention to the events of early April and late April. Early April features Mars and Saturn in early Aquarius setting off an anticipatory square to Uranus. This will be followed in late April when the Sun enters Taurus and squares Saturn before conjuncting Uranus. These periods will give us a front end look at the extraordinary volatility coming in January 2021 when Mars conjunct Uranus in Taurus with both square Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius!

So let’s all welcome Saturn’s entry into its home sign of Aquarius! If you have a planet in Aquarius, even at the end of the sign, you’ll begin to vibrate to the new Saturn energy visiting that planet. Because of the sign shift, the planets now disposed by Saturn in the earth sign of Capricorn will shift their energies and begin to exhibit more of the air qualities of Aquarius. This will accelerate in a big way when Mars enters Aquarius, conjuncts Saturn at 1 Aquarius, and sets the next set of long wave cycles into motion!

So face the future, since this will help us learn dominion over our view, our philosophy, and our wider understanding. Those who have a mature spiritual view will find many opportunities to become the author of their own larger destiny, while others will break free of old binding spiritual attitudes and find a greater dance in a greater reality. Saturn in Scorpio may have been great for teaching us how to deal with corrosive or stuck emotional energy, and Saturn in Sagittarius called us to a more mature understanding of truth, as well as more effective means of communicating that truth. Saturn in Capricorn called us to a more effective personal self-expression of our ability to take responsibility and show self-discipline in our public work, and now Saturn in Aquarius calls us to a greater vision of how we can contribute to a more ideal world on our way to Spiritual Adulthood!

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn is in its home sign of Aquarius, it is the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. As Jupiter also moves through Capricorn and Aquarius, Saturn continues to play a very prominent role for all of 2020 and 2021! Remember that though Saturn can feel heavy, it also symbolizes the power we have to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. In Aquarius, we should all feel a bit lighter and brighter, even if it’s a bit rocky due to the aspects.

Saturn has been preparing us for a “role of destiny” which has been unfolding between December and now. We’ve been rehearsing new roles for the future as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives, and now are moving toward a “new quality of being which renders the old patterns obsolete” awakened last Summer.
