On August 15, Uranus goes stationary retrograde at 11 Taurus. This represents a huge sea change where we begin a time of reviewing what has revolutionized our lives in the Taurus sector of our charts. This one will show us a new facet of our greater dedication, our ability to bring happiness in dark hours, a look at how to use knowledge and skill to meet the demands of a stage yet to come, finally landing us on its SD degree of 2019 which awakened all of us to “a new quality of being rendering the old patterns obsolete.”
Uranus represents our eternal ability in the NOW to individualize our lives and consciousness. It is the Divine Revolutionizer within us that is directly connected with Spirit. It shows us how to live in a truly free way, not reacting to the world’s inertia, but instead moving into the eternal unknown adventure where we are forever free to explore, discover, and revolutionize our lives and consciousness.
Uranus is the Higher Law, Jupiter is the guide out of old ways into greater futures. Uranus helps us break free, break out, and break through the binding force Saturn represents as our “Ring Pass Not.” Uranus is Divine Wisdom, working together with Jupiter and Saturn to perfect our personalities so we might become vehicles for bringing Spirit to matter in our own unique way. I discuss the dance Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus do in our lives to bring us to spiritual adulthood fully living our individuality and higher purpose in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend where you can find more about this process.
What Has Uranus Awakened in 2019-2020?
Uranus now begins to re-trace ground it’s covered since it last went direct in January 2020 at 3 Taurus. Since then, we’ve explored how to individualize in the span of experience from 3 through 11 Taurus. Now that it’s retrograde, we will take a new look at what Uranus awakened in us the first time in the Summer of 2019 when it went SRX at 7 Taurus.
2018 and 2019 were a transitional period, as Uranus danced between the end of Aries and the beginning of Taurus during this time. In 2017, we began to awaken to our part to play in “the Cosmic Choir.” It was activated in April 2018 when Uranus again transited 29 Aries, went SRX at 3 Taurus, and retrograded back to the degree of “the Cosmic Choir,” where it went direct in January 2019, providing us a platform from which we can sing our part in the larger harmony.
From this retrograde station at 11 Taurus, it will retrograde back through its “shadow zone,” giving us another retrograde look at the Uranian developments set into motion in April. This will last through January 2021, when it goes SD, again hitting a station at 7 Taurus, launching the third transit through its 2020 shadow zone until it begins to transit 12 Taurus in May 2021.
Between July 2017 and March 2019 we learned our part in the “Cosmic Choir,” and practiced singing unisons, harmonies, solos, and learned when not to sing. By learning to listen to the inner voice we’ve caught glimpses of our individuality in the Infinity and Eternity of Life itself. The possibility of a form of "At-One-Ment" opened to us all, as well as "an understanding of the harmonics of the greater Life order and meaning" presenting itself.
This is an important time of reviewing and reworking that part, given Mars will soon go SRX at 29 Aries! By the time it makes its final transit over that degree in January 2021, we’ll know our part to sing and be in circumstances where we can play that part.
Once it moved back into Taurus in early March 2019, we picked up a new type of individualization which had been awakened May 2018, and since then have awakened to our need to return to source, or at least “ancient qualities of Being.” We found our “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” while seeing what of our past had to be buried in 2019 and the first 3 months of 2020.
Uranus occupies its stationary degree throughout most of July, August, and September. After that it retrogrades back through the end of the first decan of Taurus through January 2021, when it goes stationary direct.
Uranus is now at 11 Taurus, retrograde and on the way to its review the span of degrees between 11 back to 7 Taurus. 11 Taurus is in the individual, mental, and spiritual “face” of that sign, whereas 7-10 Taurus is about the social and emotional face of that sign. So we can expect from late September through January to be a time when social, emotional, and material activities will help us awaken and focus our potential in ways that revolutionize our lives, liberate us, and get us ready for relaxing into a new quality of life which will predominate the rest of 2021 and beyond.
The Sabian Symbol for the Uranus Retrograde Station
The symbol for the 11th degree of Taurus is “A woman sprinkling flowers.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this degree is one of “man’s and nature’s creative partnership[ of service and beauty,” and “Nature’s rich response to man’s care or lack of care.”
In The Astrological Mandala, he goes on to say that this degree is about “development of the powers of the mind on which ego-consciousness is based.” He speaks of our “psycho-mental nature” taking form from “the fulfillment and transcendence of biological functions and drives,” where consciousness attaches itself to a “flowering expression” so our ego can develop.
The garden represents our ego which requires constant care, cultivation, and weeding so our best ego can come forth. He says this degree falls in the Span of Experience, Act of Differentiation, and Scene of Substantiation on the Individual, mental, and spiritual level.
Dr. Jones says this is a degree of “the soul’s determination to give constant and tangible manifestation of its creative powers,” and of our instinct to pour our soul into the potential which calls it. He speaks of “an easy and rewarding partnership” between us and natures, where nature rewards us profusely which matches our “inner generosity of spirit.”
He offers that as we feel “responsible for the welfare of (our) world” we reap great rewards for our interest. He offers us the keyword CARE, and states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is “the high stewardship by which (we) build everything around (us) into an enduring organism for (our) own fulfillment.”
From this symbol we see the theme of this Uranus threshold state involves seeing how Nature has rewarded our care and diligence in cultivating our “garden,” whether of life, ego, or service. We already had our revelation of the future; now we just need to tend the garden of our affairs to ensure an abundant reward in 2021.
