On August 24, Uranus goes stationary retrograde at 19 Taurus. This is a major phase shift when we begin to review what has revolutionized and/or awakened in the Taurus part of our charts.

This one has brought us to a new spontaneity and outpouring of our most natural Self as we stand on the threshold of our Uranian review of the shadow zone between 19 Taurus and 15 Taurus, the “Ox Point.” Our review begins with the spontaneity of a purified mind leading us back to Uranus’ SD degree of 2021 which took us through a journey of “tests of character.”

Uranus represents our eternal ability in the NOW to individualize our lives and consciousness. It is the Divine Revolutionizer within us that is directly connected with Spirit. It shows us how to live in a truly free way, not reacting to the world’s inertia, but instead moving into the eternal unknown adventure where we are forever free to explore, discover, and revolutionize our lives and consciousness.

Uranus is the Higher Law, Jupiter is the guide out of old ways into greater futures. Uranus helps us break free, break out, and break through the binding force Saturn represents as our “Ring Pass Not.” Uranus is Divine Wisdom, working together with Jupiter and Saturn to perfect our personalities so we might become vehicles for bringing Spirit to matter in our own unique way. What Has Uranus Awakened in 2021-2022?

Uranus now begins to re-trace ground it’s covered since it last went direct in January 2022 at 11 Taurus. Since then, we’ve explored how to individualize in the span of experience from 11 through 19 Taurus. Now that it’s retrograde, we will take a new look at what Uranus awakened in us the first time in the Summer of 20210 when it went SRX at 15 Taurus.

2018 and 2019 were a transitional period, as Uranus danced between the end of Aries and the beginning of Taurus during this time. In 2017, we began to awaken to our part to play in “the Cosmic Choir.” It was activated in April 2018 when Uranus again transited 29 Aries, went SRX at 3 Taurus, and retrograded back to the degree of “the Cosmic Choir,” where it went direct in January 2019, providing us a platform from which we can sing our part in the larger harmony.

That brought us to “a new quality of being rendering the old patterns obsolete” in 2020. We “returned to ancient sources of Being” while getting glimpses of the future. This has taken us through using knowledge and skill to anticipate what’s coming, an ability to create happiness in dark hours, and a dedication to a greater work. That brought us to “the garden of our life” so that we could see what Nature would reward of our efforts to cooperate with its life-affirming blessings.

The last half of 2020 gave us a look back at those themes, preparing us to move forward in early 2021 on the basis of the new patterns which were awakened in 2019-2020. This time last year Uranus went RX at the midpoint of Taurus, and we reviewed 15 back to 11 Taurus. Now that we’ve begun to experience the second half of Taurus since May 2022, we get to review that actional-physical span of “Confirmation.”

From this retrograde station at 19 Taurus, it will retrograde back through its “shadow zone” between 15-19 Taurus, giving us a different way to view the Uranian developments set into motion in May. This will last through January 2023, when it goes SD, again hitting a station at 15 Taurus, launching the third transit through its 2022 shadow zone until it begins to transit 20 Taurus in May 2023.

Uranus occupies its stationary degree from early July through mid-October. 19 Taurus is the technique of the actional-physical “face” of the second half of Taurus. After mid-October it retrogrades back through 18, 17,and 16 Taurus until it goes stationary direct at 15 Taurus. So Uranus is now at 15 Taurus, and about to review the span between 15 back to 11 Taurus in late January.

19 Taurus is the culmination of the individual, mental, and spiritual “face” of that sign. So the focus from now through May 2023 is on actional-material activities which help us awaken and focus our potential in ways that revolutionize our lives, liberate us, and get us ready for relaxing into a new quality of life which will predominate the rest of 2022 and beyond.

The Sabian Symbol for the Uranus Retrograde Station

The symbol for the 19th degree of Taurus is “A newly formed continent.” In the original Marc Jones class notes on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this is a degree of the “potentiality for tangible self-manifestation in all beings,” “Overflowing originality,” and “spontaneous, rich creative urge.”

In the Astrological Mandala, he says this is a degree of "the surge of new potentiality after the crisis.” He states “when the mind has been emptied and light has been called upon to purify the consciousness freed from its attachment and contaminations, a new release of life can emerge out of the infinite Ocean of potentiality, the Virgin SPACE.”

He continues that this is “a suggestion of how to approach whatever new phase of life has been not only hoped for, but actually confirmed. The ‘technique’ is simply to allow the infinite Potential to operate in unconstrained spontaneity. This means to have reached a state in which the conscious, rational ego is no longer a controlling factor.” He offers that this degree falls in the Span of Enjoyment, Act of Differentiation, Scene of Confirmation on the actional-physical level.

Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of “the raw substance of existence” and implies “experience may shape its own ground in full conformity with its desires.” He continues that this symbol is about “an awareness of the constant reworking of all reality through the course of successful overall cycles, and it dramatizes the fact that (we re-establish ourselves) continuously” through “each new realization of (our) powers and the opportunities of (our) world.”

He offers us the keyword ORIGINALITY. He goes on to say that when operating positively, the degree is “a revolutionary potentiality by which each individual is enabled to remodel the entire face of the universe.”

From this symbol we see the theme of this Uranus threshold state involves BEING the spontaneity naturally arising as a result of our prior efforts at purifying our mind and interpretations. This period will awaken a new energy as a result of our examining the musty corners of our minds, and following any discontent back to its source to revolutionize our thinking. We now get a 5 month review of our process of mental housecleaning, our ability to mobilize our spiritual power to counter the materialism in our world, how the old answers cannot confirm our new conditions of existence, to wind up understanding how we’ve been building character as prelude to a new way of confirming our individuality, both in action and within a social or emotional context.

What To Expect For the Rest of 2022

This retrograde station begins a Uranian phase of looking at past and current “surges of spontaneity” as experiences which give us the opportunity to see how cleaning out old ideas leads us to more natural self-expression, new power, and new understanding of the inadequacy of measuring the emergent new by the rapidly fading past. We’re all awakening to a new form of self-expression, new potentials, and our ability to “rework our possibilities through employing new powers.”

Taking a brief look back to connect the dots, Uranus went stationary retrograde at 11 Taurus in August 2020, and went stationary direct on the same degree in January 2022. 11 Taurus was the degree of the Solar Eclipse of May 2022, implying that much that was awakened related to our “garden of life and mind” between mid-2020 and this year began to trigger some shutdowns in the house where that occurred in our lives. While much has awakened, much has also fallen away these past 2 years.

By January 2023 when Uranus goes direct, we’ll stand on a platform of seeing the character strengths we’ve cultivated since last Summer, ready to let go of everything which has become obsolete so that new power and new potential can come forth spontaneously. All we’ve been building will bring rewards in 2023!
