New Moon in Sagittarius, December 14, 2020 - Shapeshifting
Category: Moon Cycles Written by Cristina Rombi Views: 1609

Endings disguised as beginnings (and vice-versa) seems like an apt way to sum up the energy of the upcoming New Moon in Sagittarius, arriving on December 14, at 4:16 PM UTC. And also, endings and beginnings that will stretch far beyond what the present moment brings, all the way through the next six months of our lives, as it’s the case with any Eclipse.
This New Moon is Eclipse season’s grand finale, featuring a total obscuration of the Sun’s beaming photosphere that will be visible from parts of Chile and Argentina (some locations in southern South America, south-west Africa, and Antarctica will get to see the partial phase of this eclipse).
Occurring at 23°08 Sagittarius, four degrees away from the transiting South Node, this Eclipse comes at us like a solemn liturgy, a moment of momentous, reverential contemplation, recalibration and release. Sitting at the threshold of what is perhaps the most important astrological event of the whole year after January’s Saturn/Pluto conjunction, and ruled by Jupiter on the brink of the quantum leap from Capricorn to Aquarius, this intense New Moon is a prayer whispered in the dark — may we muster the courage to rewrite all storylines and narratives that aren’t rooted in our innermost, heartfelt truth. May we re-member ourselves, shedding all preconceived notions about who we are supposed to be. May we untwist ourselves from dogmatic beliefs about our destiny, may we quit outsourcing our wisdom and start honouring the compass of our intuition.
So it is.
Mercury forms a tight conjunction to this New Moon, and we cannot possibly imagine a new world while we’re still policing our own imagination, and clinging on to outdated tenets that contributed to the preservation of the old world in the first place. We cannot open up to a new era if we’re not in an open, comfortable, expansive relationship with our own ideas. We cannot step into the future with our minds still cluttered by everything the past has promised and shattered. We can’t hold on for dear life to the South Node of the Moon, no matter how deeply attached we are to its soothing familiarity.
Reset. Unlearn. Undo.
But first, we must step into the darkness — a darkness made all the more eerie and uncanny by shifty, subtle Neptune in Pisces squaring the New Moon and the Nodal Axis. There is an otherworldly, trickster-ish quality about this New Moon, reminding us that the only certainty we can possibly count on in life is impermanence, and the transient nature of everything — including theorems, doctrines and opinions.
Who we are and what do we feel compelled to choose when there are no guarantees?
Empowered by a trine from Mars in Aries, this New Moon prompts us to push off from what we think we know, follow the lead of our intuition and anchor ourselves in faith. Yes, there are times when not knowing is actually a blessing. Sometimes it has to be just us, the Great Unknown and the freedom to recreate ourselves anew, so we can steer the direction of our life accordingly.
